I thought the 3rd OP was being overdramatic until the update! It's absolutely awful that they instilled in him such heavy shame around sexuality and dating, but when they sleep around, it's somehow okay? Like make it make sense??? I don't have any issues with polyamory but to punish your child for masturbating when you're having sex with multiple people is so hypocritical 😤 They were also neglecting him physically and emotionally in pursuit of their lifestyle which is NOT okay!

@@jimmyjohnjuan Dude, stop. Poly is not "weird". It's different. You're starting to sound like people who say that being queer is "weird" because it's different from heterosexuality. It's not weird just because you don't understand it. It's as valid as monogamy. You don't have to participate in it yourself and no one should ever force you into it, BUT there are actual real life healthy poly people who are just trying to live their lives without judgement from actual weirdos who are obsessed with the s*x lives of strangers that they don't know a damn thing about. If you want monogamy, that's fine. If you want polyamory, that's fine. It's no one else's business but your own. Also, to compare to healthy poly relationships to smoking and drinking?! Lol, are you joking?! Smoking and drinking are in no way comparable to poly relationships. To believe so is increasing inane and naive. Smoking and drinking excessively can kill you and harm your body. Knowing that Poly relationships and poly people exist will not kill or harm you, lol.

@@MONKEYDZETS Believe it or not, poly, open, and multiple marriages have been a thing for a LONG time. They go as far back as the Bible coming into existence. Hell, even the Bible has several important figures who had multiple partners. It's not as uncommon as the world would like you to believe. And again, being queer or non-heterosexual is still classified by homophobes as being "weird" and not the "norm" as Heterosexuality, but we know damn well that non-Heterosexuals and non-Cis people have been around for thousands of years. People being in the closet and hiding who they are from society out of fear and to protect themselves also helped with this belief that only Heterosexuals and Cis people were the "norm" and it's the same with Poly people. There are tons of books and websites dedicated to this topic, so I'd recommend you to crack open a book and do your own research. Just a thought.

OP was abused - plain & simple. They were negligence, abandoned & experienced mental cruelty. When a child is experiencing trauma you as a parent stop, listen & ask how to help. You hold them even when they stop crying. Continuing these behaviors when you are hurting your child is sick This is heartbreaking. It made me cry. Then you were living in your car, couch surfing & at school to avoid that. I am amazed at what a well adjusted person you are. Also he said he lived at friends' places and in a car, which is neglect from the parents' side not to intervene (if he was still a minor at the time). He literally said himself he had to completely emotionally disconnect from them to deal. This experience obviously traumatized him. The signs for that: 1. emotional disconnect (as described by himself) 2. an emotional response as if the situation just happened (as pointed out in the comments - it's a sign you didn't process an event, the emotions are either not there (suppressed) or appear "fresh" 3. He's basically blamed every single failing of his parents on them being open, which is highly unlikely to be true. Well, if you leave out crucial info in your post, the answers you get will be thereafter. Life would be easier if people didn't expect others to be telepathic. That goes for story 1, too. ETA: The same goes for story 3. If OP had included that it's possible his parents not only missed teaching him how to bicycle, and drive a car, without also missed celebrating birthdays with OP because they chose to prioritise going out to have sex with others instead, a lot of the answers to the original post would probably have sounded differently.
@galacticalove
@galacticalove Жыл бұрын
The extra info shouldn't have to be what gets people to believe her, I understand the gap and being 16 or 17 is grey area legally, but if dude got with her AFTER he was legal instead of when he was 17 or younger, there is a huge question of manipulation. The comments were straight assholes, sory but hell no.
@FinnishLapphund
@FinnishLapphund Жыл бұрын
@@galacticaloveBut all that extra info OP somehow managed to forget when writing the first post, makes the age gap thing completely irrelevant. If OP's first post instead had said something like e.g.: Z is my BF's roommate, but I cut off Z as a friend because he kept constantly hitting on me, made comments about my, and BF's sex life, thinks I'm dramatic when I have period pains, slaps my BF's ass even though BF tells him to stop, and he have told me he's only using his GF as a therapist whilst allowing her to think their relationship is the real deal. Now Z's GF have reached out to me, she's told me once before to sort of stay away from her BF/Z, so I'm worried she just wants to repeat that message. Should I still give it a chance to see what it is she wants this time? Maybe even try to warn her about him? If OP had said anything similar to the above, I'm sure the majority of the responses would've been very different. By the way, no, I still don't view the 3 years age gap as a big thing. And that is not only because I happen to live in a country where the age of consent law have a close-in-age clause = if you're around the age of consent, it's perfectly okay to have a relationship with someone older as long as they're no more than 3 years older.

I feel really bad about OOP in the last story. The first comment put it real good, that it’s not that OOP dislikes their parents for being poly, but for the fact that they just weren’t good parents. When the story first started and they didn’t give much perspective in the beginning, I really thought that OOP was just upset their family wasn’t ‘normal’ and I was upset as a person who hails from a family full of ‘different’ people that they could be so judgmental. But it was me who was judgmental as I assumed bad things, and OOP was having bad problems deep down. Imagine having parents that don’t even want to spend time with you… that has to be awful…

A couple of days later she removed the container from the fridge very briefly while she cleaned it and he absolutely freaked out. She was asking AITA for removing the "olives" from the fridge, but commenters warned her something really didn't add up and the container very likely contained something more dangerous or sinister, like drugs. Everybody is taking OP’s version of events as gospel in that first story. GF might have mentioned them a couple of times, but because he thinks they are dull, he changed it to an obsession. The way he talks about her not staying with him “like she was supposed to,” makes me think he sees everything from his own wants and needs and doesn’t see her as having any agency at all. Honestly… I got an underlying vibe that he doesn’t want her to have any relationships with anyone but him. “Ask to be their third,” sounds like he’s jealous of her friendship. He might only be young and spoiled, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was deeper and he wants to isolate her.

As much as I hate what I'm about to say, from the way the parents sound in the last story, OP sounds like he was an 'oops' baby. It was as if his parents were just agreeing around so much they didn't have a care in the world and just went on everyday as if nothing could go wrong. Then along came OP and they got a small dose of reality in the form of a child that wrecks any plans they had for their life. I'm certain that his parents do love him (albeit nowhere near as much as their lifestyle), but if you can see your child having a severe mental breakdown and you look at them tell them you'll do something then go out and do the exact opposite... then I have no words for you. From my own opinion if you want to have a child in a relationship that is open/polyamorous then you have an extremely difficult life decision to make, either you stop, have your child, and live the family life like we see usually or you can continue the lifestyle and either don't have children or let give the child up for adoption. Because with the stories I've seen where open couples who have kids, the kids are messed up and genuinely hate their parents. I've only ever experienced 1 person personally who was ok with their parents lifestyle like that but the parents were mad cool and made the kid their priority before all else. But they didn't come out about their open relationship til she was out of high school

It's unreal that people took defending OP to mean that they had to find every possible way to break him down and make him out to seem far worse than what he is, and worst of all they do this all while at the same time trying to absolve GF of all her responsibility in the matter. Its pathetic Edit: the update ruined everything I had just said to defend the boyfriend. That's disappointing but I'm not stupid enough to discard what's empirically provable lol. Nah OP wasn't wrong but did nothing to properly explain things in the original post

Story 1: I feel like this was a communication breakdown. I see this a lot, where couples slowly stop trying to look at a problem as "Us vs the problem" and instead start focusing on their partner themselves as the issue. Though we are missing a lot of context, the BF could also feel like she's never actually said anything to him, just said things "at" him. One _could_ also argue she was constantly passive aggressive with her comments. Sadly we are lacking way too much info, so I'd go with ESH based on what we have gotten. Story 2: Wait, so OP is 18 dating a 20 year old, and claims that the 17 year old is somehow the naive one? If the update is true then sure dude's a creep...(I mean I don't like the age gap regardless) But once again an argument can be made that she just made up the stuff so that she can be the "good person" and everyone else is the bad guy.(Biggest warning flag that it's fake, is the unneeded addition of "I cried myself to sleep over your comments" which I literally can't understand how that was relevant or helpful, like that would theoretically just add fuel to the fire for the trolls) Story 3: NTA, I'm someone who's against open marriages for religious reasons, but I'm willing to let it slide. BUT THIS IS JUST TERRIBLE, they are upset at their child for not immediately accepting their position on marriage, and yet it seems like they did nothing to actually explain how any of it is different. It would be like learning you were adopted at 16, it hits hard, and it seems they couldn't even slow down to let OP feel like they cared. Post all updates: Also OP teaching himself a lot of things his parents should have participated makes it all the worse, as now he has to question if his parents just weren't interested in him, if they were really ever 'busy' or if they were off getting a random hookup. Like it's as if they were choosing to just not be parents. Heck, the mother getting upset that OP masturbated, meanwhile she was getting railed by someone other then her husband... NO, just like you can't raise your child with the mentality "Stealing is wrong" then get upset when your child doesn't like you taking out of the donation basket, you can't raise your child to be chaste/celibate then dismiss him being upset at you being promiscuous, it's hypocrisy at it's finest.

OPEN MARRIAGE MOM I get this from OP's point of view. These parents didn't bother to help OP through a really tough transition. It also seems that their need for sex with others was far more important than taking care of their son. OP does not have to let them back into his life and the fiancee needs to just BACK OFF. OP needs counseling over this and should do it before he marries.

God the 20 year old in that story is SUCH a creep! And the fact that the comments are defending him, when he’s clearly preying on a kid STILL IN GRADE SCHOOL, it’s disgusting. Dude gives off MASSIVE Scott Pilgrim VS the World vibes. I also don’t like the comments you chose to highlight, im almost positive there were comments there that talked about the age gap and why the power imbalance was inherently predatory.

Story 3 is another example of why some people shouldn't be parents. Hell, they probably didn't WANT to be parents but had OP out of societal and religious obligations. They said one thing while doing the other, punished OP for doing something natural, neglected and mistreated OP. I'm glad the fiance backed down on trying to force a reconciliation because that would have been horrible. They're selfish people more concerned with their sex lives that their own child.

I feel like people were being really cruel to OP in the third story. Someone adding info in later when they don’t think it was necessary isn’t a crime. They don’t need to go into detail about them and their boyfriend being sexually harassed in order to tell the post. Also just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s morally right. For example, is it really appropriate for a college student to date a high schooler? Someone who is a junior in college is well into adulthood. Also the fact he said nothing physical will happen until the person is eighteen is just admitting to the fact that it’s wrong to date the girl. Why else would he try to make every single excuse if it wasn’t a bad thing to do?

Story 3: Parents stop traumatizing your children and then acting shocked when they leave you behind charged: FAILED. I’m all for poly however when kids are involved the parents HAVE to consider their child as well. Monogamous parents have to do the samething, once you have a kid it’s not all about you. You have to be careful with what you show your child & who you being your child around. For example my parents are divorced and they would wait AT LEAST a year before introducing me to their partners, and they never exposed me to what they did in the bedroom. Honestly OP’s parents went about this in the worst way possible.

Honestly with the first story, I can’t tell if it’s a YTA or ESH. She says she was trying to change him and have him respect her, but since we only have OP’s side we don’t know what she means. Is he a controlling asshat or is she making mountains out of molehills? She also mentioned she tried to communicate her needs, did she mean she tried to talk to him before and he didn’t listen, or does she legitimately think that dropping hints is communicating. We really don’t know

Story 1 : wtf those comments are talking about if my girl keep talking about random people relationships I would be mad to (my mom when I was 14-15 kept comparing me with someone who use to be a asshole to me and I definitely understand his point) if you want something talk about it don't compare me with some random guy if you fantasies their relationship so much go with them (she's not objective about them, her friend keep giving her 50 shades of gray stories about them and she's buying it smh)

op is definitely right in the age gap one. 20 and 17 is definitely wavering on the edge of being weird, but it depends on the people and the situation of the story makes it absolutely not chill

Yeah those parents are not normal poly, they are sex addicts and that mother was feeling emotional so she had to get more sex to make her feel better. That's why addicts are terrible parents, it's all about selfish desires and they indulged themselves the kid's entire life at his expense, picking him up late, not being there to raise him. That's why he's vulnerable and needs therapy because his parents showed they never cared. So many posts are essentially about parents who do not place their kids needs above their own.

A high school senior is still a child. A 20-year-old is also kind of a child but far less. OP2 did nothing wrong, the age gap is weird at that tiny age, but she needs to just RUN.

Story 1: unpopular opinion but they both suck. They both sound immature and not ready to be in a relationship. She needs to learn to speak up but he needs to listen in between the lines. It doesn’t mean he has to read her mind but let me put it this way, when my mom goes, “someday it would be nice to have roses in the backyard” in passing , the next weekend my dad would have not only bought the roses but planted them. When my dad would say “I got to keep on top of taking the cars in for the oil change” my mom on her free time would take the cars to do it. If you know your partner, you know what they need.

Or here’s a thought, hints are not and will never be an effective communication tool in relationships of all types so it should be cut out all together. It’s much easier and faster to say “can you buy me more flowers” than “OMG, Joe just bought his girlfriend a beautiful bouquet of flowers. He’s so sweet and thoughtful.” She took it as “I want you to buy me flowers.” He took it as “OMG, Joe just bought his girlfriend a beautiful bouquet of flowers. He’s so sweet and thoughtful.” To make any relationship work you need to learn effective communication skills.

@@Mglay556 when you genuinely take the time to learn your partner then it’s easy to figure out what they mean. By the sounds of that his ex was more interested in changing him to fit what she wants than learning who he was as a person. Everyone’s love language is different and when you start trying to change them and vice versa is when you should call it quits because they’re/you’re not what each other needs.

Story 1: That was a clear example of no clear communication in a relationship. OP from how the story is written never clearly said he didn’t want to constantly hear about someone else’s relationship and the ex didn’t clearly state her wants cause dropping hints is not clear communication. IMO their both at fault for the relationship ending not just OP.

1. Story: ESH she is so damn passive aggressive and he bottled it up for too long till he exploded 2. Story: YTA „we will be in the same class“ OP is a nice guy that is angry that she is taken Update: so fake and damn is OP condescending 3. Story: NTA those parents suck, they don't care about OP and only care about themself they probably didn't want to be parents till the mother accidently got pregnant, atleast thats how it has been in other "polyamorous parents" stories and all that information he gave in the update supports that the last update makes those parents suck so much more, didn't think it was possible
