I still have my Assault on Black Reach Box Set. I bought it to be my gateway into the game back when I was like 9 or 10. I really wanted to use that to get into Tau as well, but then I kind of got overwhelmed by the game as a kid. Fast forward a decade or so and I just found it again stashed away in my Shed about a few weeks ago, and have gone on a massive painting and assembly phase, learned the rules of 8th edition, and taught its simpler aspects to a few friends. We've played a few small scale games and they all love it. I've even created a fuckton of terrain and have found it all to be an incredibly therapeutic experience. I may not have got into the tabletop back in 2009, but its kind of nice that eleven years later Black Reach still served as my gateway into the game despite that. If there's one thing this video made me realize, it's that its never too late to start. Now that I'm almost done with the set, I think its time I finally look into starting that Tau army. Edit: Spelling.

Oh and behind me I have the tempest of souls AoS starter set. An army painter starter paint set and for a bit of good news a GW wash set that has not dried up after sitting for a couple years because I forgot I had it. Now if I was to go to the storage locker and dig all my Modeling stuff out well then I would break down and weep for the amount of a money just sitting (both GW and scale model).

You could use the terrain for a bulk painting guide for a single board color scheme. I've seen a lot of new player boards either having disjointed/not matching or not much terrain. It really helps sell the narrative if the board looks fleshed out more.

That's no pile of shame. It is called Bitz-Box. I can relate... sooo badly. I helped myself with storage boxes from the hardware store that are usually used for screws and stuff. I detached all sprues and put them into those boxes. So I have a drawer full of weapons, a drawer full of human legs, torsos etc. That way at least it looks less AND you get wonderful ideas for kit bashes. Recently I built a Wasteland-Scraptank for a yet unknown purpose, out of an old revell Beetle, some weapon parts from Kromlech, an Ork BattleWagon, a Trukk, lots of small bits from various sources and some plastic card to fill the gaps. Some time ago I did that with a firebelly, an ale guzzler gargant, a talos, some old metal parts from an old ogryn, the head of a new plastic ogryn, yet some plastic bits, some more plastic bits and lots of green stuff... to create a dreadnought sized Frankenstein's Monster armed with a flame thrower... I call him FRANKENOGRE... or just Junior. For me it's a fun way to at least reduce the amount of unbuilt minis.

After a while everyone in this hobby ends up with at least a small pile of shame, but I don't understand how you can have a bunch of entire box sets that you didn't even open. As soon as I buy some, I've got the box ripped open lol.

You really should sell a part of this. The models want to be build and painted, keeping them in boxes just isn't right. Do you even have an admech army? If not, sell them, that's 32 models less in your pile fo shame.

Pro tip: Clip off the bitz from the sprues that you're "done with" and save the bitz in a cheap fishing box or another box with sorting-possibilities. Saves a lot of space.
