That's at least $6000/month mortgage (not including property tax or insurance). If he had to borrow the majority of the down payment from family, how tf is he going to make mortgage payments? I personally think a person can do whatever they want in regards to deeds. My boyfriend and I may move in together eventually. If I'm on the deed or not, I want to be paying my share.

@@fangybyte It's possible that he does indeed make enough monthly to be able to afford the mortgage payments, he just didn't have enough to make the down payment then and there. From what I've read, the average monthly salary for a physician in the US is between $9k - $13k, so not that far out of the realm of possibility, if he falls within that salary bracket, assuming he's not specialised which could mean more. Although, going off the golddigging behaviour of the GF and her mother, it's very likely that he was pressured into choosing a much more expensive home by them.

Listen to me, the mother of your 30-year-old girlfriend of less than a year, who works at Burger King, because I absolutely do. First story: listen to the final thing she said. "She hoped in the future I would trust my heart and not let others make decisions" as he is currently sitting in front of her and basically pouring out all his worries in his heart about what's going on, and she just dismisses it and says "I'll wait if you change your mind" She did not give a flying fuck about him at all, if not everything else already was a red flag, that definitely was the biggest red flag that she is just rolling with her mom and trying to get easy money. Buy house, get married, divorce, get half house cost + spousal payment or get full house + spousal payment.

Story 1: I would love to see this story played out in some alternate universe where the mother was not involved. She seems to be the negative driving force in all this. Also: OP is extremally lucky they did not baby trap him! Story 2: OP's son is the 3rd most important person in the new baby's life right now, and will be for many years to come. The parents should be doing all they can to encourage the best relationship possible between them.

I've heard 2 arguments for the speed of a relationship (where at least one person is uncomfortable with the speed set by the other): Person 1: it's smart to go slow and take your time getting to know one another, make sure that this is THE long-term relationship that you want to commit to. Person 2: There's limited time on this earth, why shouldn't we start as soon as possible? If it's good, and you both feel a connection, why wait? And I've realized that this is probably the best answer to Person #2's argument: why wait: because I want to. Because I don't feel comfortable moving this fast. Because building trust takes longer for me. *Any* of these answers should be enough, if they respect you and your boundaries. And if they counter with "are you saying that you don't trust me?" then the best answer is "not with my future," (or something to that affect). Because you're not saying that you don't trust them *entirely*, you just haven't known them long enough to say with 100% certainty that you trust them.

Woah, woah, WOAH!!! OP just slid in there that she had said before that she doesn't like kids, but because he wanted kids she would have them! That is so wrong!! A woman who doesn't want kids & only goes through all the suffering & risk of health/death just to please the husband will not be a good mom. She will resent the kids for her health & any weight changes after birth, the stretch marks, the lack of sleep, etc. Also since she clearly already doesn't like cleaning she will either be resentful of all the cleaning you have to do for kids, or she will refuse to do any & insist they hire a maid to do all the cleaning, which would be another regular expense. The fact that she already has excuses for going from a full time to part time job is concerning also. If what she said about previous boss is true, she still should've been able to find a different full time job by now. He's most likely got student debt to pay off & he needs to build up a reputation as a good doctor or he's not gonna be able to even open his own practice, so she's not gonna be his office personnel any time soon. Why is she trying to push that? He should be discussing things like that with fellow doctors to get a realistic view of what that's like cause operating costs & malpractice insurance & such are higher per patient in a small practice compared to a hospital. There's more red flags than just her wanting to marry so soon.

1 "I couldn't think of a reason not to" isn't a reason to get married. It's a reason to give someone a ride. Ex I'm going to the mall and my brother asked if I could take him there so he can meet his friends. I couldn't think of a reason not to so I gave him a ride. 2 they think op should treat her the same as when he lived with her family rent free. Fine, did they put his name on their deed? No? Ok, he'll follow their example and not put her name on his. 3 another reason to do the "I couldn't think of a reason not to" is sign a pre nup. They say op is planning on their marriage failing and she thinks it won't? Great. If the only reason it would affect them is if they got divorced then I can't think of a reason not to.

(I'm practically reacting in real time here) 1:04 wait, only 5 months in and GF and her mom start pushing marriage and a house? And then scout for properties on their own?? 1:39 wait, the house is worth HOW MUCH?! and you're building something *NEW* ?!? emergency brake, emergency brake, where is the emergency brake, we are stopping this ride here and NOW-- he's borrowing over 100k from his parents, *and* paying for the entire down payment himself. What. 2:49 dude, why AREN'T you questioning the future of your relationship?? (especially in the wake of all these red flags) It hasn't even been a YEAR yet, omfg... also why is the mom *still* in the house with them? Either she lives with OP and the GF, or OP brought this up with his GF while her mom was still in their home (why wouldn't you discuss this in *private* ?). Either way, not good. It also sounds like the mom eavesdropped on you guys too, fantastic. "don't listen to your parents or friends b/c they don't have your best interests at heart and only want to break your relationship up." lol, I'm sorry, I've heard that phrase dropped too many times in these stories by abusive partners, to even consider it being true. Sounds kinda like reflection... also, why is GF's mom SO INVESTED in this relationship? "didn't have enough love in my heart that I was thinking in such calculating ways," who writes her dialogue, a fired soap-opera writer? I'm sorry, when did trying to be practical and careful equal a lack of love? I know that she *means* that he seems to care more about the cost of the house than about his GF/ their relationship, but well...why *shouldn't* he? They don't NEED to buy a new house, they can rent, or buy an *existing* house (money doesn't sound like an issue with his income), for less money. Why jump into such a huge investment now, when--once the market goes up again--nobody will be able to afford the finished home if OP and his GF want to sell? So yeah, he's caring a lot about whose name the title is in, and hesitating to put your name on the deed, because you made the cost of the house his sole responsibility. Ugh, twisting the conversation from an "I want to talk about this because this is an important decision," conversation into an "oh, so you don't LOVE ME, why are you being so cruel???" convo is so gross. Especially when you know (you just *know* ) that she (and her mother) are manipulating the argument that way that because they know that they'd lose the argument. ok, how lonely was this guy before he met his GF? Because he's accepting/ putting up with a LOT in this relationship

S1 OP: “We moved in together after one month of dating…” 🚩 Also OP: “We have been together for about ten months now, but my parents disapprove because they think *they* are after my money.” 🚩🚩 Also OP: “About five months ago gf and her parents started looking for a house for us because they thought we were ready to get married.” 🚩 😱 Hold up, OP. So many red flags already, and I’m exactly one minute in! Moving in after one month?! Too soon! Then gf and her mother (not you!) decide you’re “ready to get married” after five months??! WAY too soon, and none of MIL’s business! I understand her wanting you out of her house as soon as feasible, but she has zero say in when you’re ready to get married or what house you buy! Especially when, let’s be real, it’s unlikely either she or gf will be financially contributing. Is she expecting to move in too? Step 1: Stop letting your gf (and her mother) decide how fast your relationship progresses! It should be a natural thing that just evolves; not something that is marched along. Step 2: Get an airtight prenup, *with* an infidelity clause (on BOTH sides, so if you cheat it invalidates the prenup too. It needs to be fair so remember that and don’t cheat). House stays with you as a premarital asset, period. But if she lasts, say ten years married she’s entitled to x percent of your marital assets (not your premarital ones, and not 50%). If she refuses to sign, tell her it’s prenup or breakup. Step 3: Stick to your boundaries and don’t back down UNLESS she can come up with a suitable compromise you’re both happy with. Just as long as one of the compromises isn’t “throw out the prenup.” You need that to CYA. But honestly, I kinda agree with your parents: sounds like she (and her parents) are after your money, and I’m not sure this is a relationship worth putting more time (and money!) into. AND it a one MILLION dollar house?! Why do you need that much house for just the two of you?? Considering you took a loan from your parents for the majority of it, it’s technically THEIR house. I’d be tempted to tell gf that, your parents own it and you can’t put her on the title - but she’s just pressure you to pay them off before you’re ready and THEN put her on the title. I’d be real surprised if she offered any financial help at all. Listen to your parents, OP. She’s love bombing, guilt tripping, and manipulating the heck out of you. S2: ESH. You’re playing tit for tat, which is petty and doesn’t belong in a mature, healthy relationship. There is also a huge difference between feeling comfortable having a (I’m presuming) grown adult (SIL) holding your fragile newborn than having a young teen hold the baby. However, your son is old enough to understand how to be gentle and if he’s supervised I don’t see a problem. Your wife sucks for saying her family is “a special case,” when your son, the child’s brother, isn’t? She’s playing favorites, and I’d call her on her bs. I let my four-year-old son hold his baby brother: I sat him on the couch, placed the baby in his lap, and hovered like a helicopter mom.

just cause she has financial difficulties doesn't mean she's gold digging. The fact that she's pressuring you into giving her half a mil and to quickly marry her and not think about what's equitable and to rely on your hormones, that's what makes her a gold digger. So I'd say that I don't like either side's take on the matter. If he'd said that he told the parents about how she's pressuring him to move way to fast and to give her things and that that's why they think is a gold digger, i would have said they're not to blame for anything, but to start off by saying that she could be in it for the money cause she's poor is just bigoted. And yes, in this case they turned out to be right, but not for their analysis of poor people's general intentions

The post ONLY mentions the son's age, not the SIL's. Nor does it mention if sister is already a parent or has experience in childcare. We can presume OP is at least in his mid 30's given the son's age, but there's nothing about wife and sister. If sister is in her 30's and has been raising kids, then her being an "exception" would be legitimate. It's really the wife's wording that's suspect. If she'd said she doesn't want non-adults to hold the baby or someone who'd never held one before, then there's a real distinction. The fact that OP left out any of that information makes me wonder if he's trying to stir up trouble.

Nah, that condescending and disrespectful attitude is her real self. She's just hiding behind the lovebombing to manipulate Op so he lowers his guard. They'll isolate him from his support network and drain him out of money and his will to life. If anything happens, she'll be gone faster than light. Once they get married, she twill show her true self and Op will get screwed over in the divorce.

About the common law marriage in the first story. For it to count as a common law marriage both parties have to make themselves out to be married, and live as married. So unless you tell others that you are married it doesn't count.

Story 2 - Only a few seconds in and I'm gonna hazard a wild guess that the older son isn't the son of the wife and that's the real reason she didn't want him to hold the baby. Edit: Called it. The baby has only just been born and the wife is already showing favouritism. This is only going to get worse.

Wow those two had OP's whole life planned out for him......marriage house and new practice all that his wife and mother managed he just has to be the ATM....he friends and family were dead on with they only wanted his money. Good thing he broke up because a woman who is only having kids because OP wanted them would not make a good mother.

'I couldn't think of a reason not to marry her' yeah except the reason you parents mentioned about her only being after your money. Her and her family found a 1million house for You to put 200K down for and share with her? You shouldn't listen to your friends or your parents but you should listen to them? Dude, come on...

I was curious when the mother mentioned in their culture, the man buys a house for the wife... sounded suspicious, so I googled it. And yes, there is a tradition for that, even a special word for that kind of house (Hunfang in Chinese) so... yeah, it sounded like they got hung up on cultural differences from that angle... that said, the relationship went very fast, so there were red flags imo.

Story 1, run bro, run. The family sees you as a cash cow and already feels entitled to your money. Cultural issues aside, things won't get better, only worse. In Chinese culture, there's pressure for a woman to be married before she's 25. Or they become "Christmas Cake Girls", no good after the 25th, and it's a shameful thing for her parents. So mom is pimping daughter out hard. Wouldn't be surprised if she ends up pregnant soon.

No that's not it. The wife didn't want OP's son, her stepson who is 14 to hold her child. Notice she was ok with her sister holding her child but not his son. He's 14 and not 4 so unless the teenager has some physical disabilities he can hold a baby especially his own sister. OP is just following the precedent his wife set and if it's a little on the malicious compliance side then so be it.

Poor op, "some of you said it's love bombing but it's been consistent". Uh, yea, 10 months in while they are pushing to become financially attached and dependant of course it's going to be consistent. Shoot 10 months in is still early enough for the consistent love bombing without the financial being brought into it. You are a cash cow, the sucking up will continue until they get what they want. That's exactly what love bombing is. Except when they are working towards something they put more effort in for longer periods of time. That's exactly why they are rushing you, so they can get what they want BEFORE the mask slips. 10 months is nothing when there is a benefit for them. Good grief. Of course it's consistent, because it's still ONLY been 10 months. Luckily for you, they got too greedy too quick and couldn't hide the agenda very well. Even with the flag blowing right in your face you still can't see it though. Poor guy. He's going to get played horribly by someone
