I agree. It annoys me when other tech channels praise the 1440p or 4k mobile screens, or 90/120hz. While all I can think about is all the useful battery drain that is on a mobile phone, where 90% of people just take photos, use social media and texting apps. I bet 90% of people would be plenty happy with mod tier phone like the pixel 4a, and they wouldn't even notice its not a flagship in daily use. Marketing and tech reviewers have skewed how people see these items so hard.

@Mario I agree 100% they have a better policy than google, but it's not without faults either. It's a company that make money on it's users and they need to collect information on stats and annalise just like anybody else so they can move with the market. There just isn't a service or company that isn't out for themselves in some way anymore. People are the product these days, there's no way out of that since the mass of people rather have free content and easy of use instead of security.

I like how the market realised that smaller form factor are WAY BETTER, and the phablets fashion came to an end. Phones are for handy using and carrying on your pocket. I was struggling finding a phone to replace my Pixel2 (not XL) and I couldn't find any other phone within those dimensions who worth it. Let's hope that tendency continues in the future

I recently started watching your videos. Love the simple, non-flashy, no-non-sense style. A comprehensive review in under 7 minutes. Excellent video as always Dave. The Pixel 5 is overpriced but compared to its predecessor, I think Google has finally taken a step in the right direction. The removal of the Pixel Neural Core is a shame though. I was really hoping to buy the Pixel 5 but settled for the better priced and better specced Poco F2 Pro.

High refresh screens in "the reality of usage" actually do play a huge roll when we use our phones. Most people arent looking at a static screen, they use it to constantly scroll and click things. So it literally affects everything. There will be apps that don't need it but its ridiculously sweet to have it there. Love this review overall tho, do wish other night sample photos were used that weren't from a oneplus given how most people don't use them so....

It's nice....but not killer. You only miss 90hz if; you game a lot or you KNOW how a 90hz screen is. You're not gonna instagram harder because you have a 90hz screen. Battery, loading times and camera's are far more important to me.

@@Djrepsaj its not about Instagraming harder or playing video games that take advantage of the fps on the screen (although it would be fantastic) but its simply about the whole user experience throughout every aspect of the device. I remember when iphones moved to a 60hz screen with 120hz touch sample. It made a massive difference compared to the Android phones at the time. The user experience was just better and smoother which is why a lot of Americans learned to appreciate iphones and their consistent smoothness. And im not even referring to 90hz, im referring to 120hz. You can still pick up on the difference with 90hz and I can guarantee you most absolutely will with 120hz which is the new default

I wanna get it since it is a flagship instead of their play on a budget phone. Im not one of those people obsessed with phone cameras but the UW will be very useful. Also smaller phones rock. It should even have decently longer software support. The 4a software support probably will not be long since they released the 5 just a few months after the 4a.

One criticism I have about the phone is that they didn't hide the bottom speaker under the frame like the top speaker so that they went back to their roots of two front facing speakers. That was one of my favorite things about the first few Pixel phones. However, I do plan on getting a pair of new earbuds, so it won't be that big of a deal.

Nobody else points out the thing with the bezels. The symmetry of it is so pleasing and plays nicely with the minimalist design of the phone. It just looks so elegant. Probably one of my favorite phones to touch and look at

Just to precise that the rear side isn’t all aluminium but in the area of wireless charging there is a hole filled by polycarbonate. So the rear side of the device is covered from plastic film to hide the trick.

completely agree that high-refresh rate on a phone has very limited advantages compared to its disadvantages, what would be quite useful is that KZbin videos and other website videos can use 60fps as a standard, which would make 60fps refresh panels on most phones super smooth

The UK price is £599 which is a pleasant surprise as many brands charge the same $/ £ value (e.g. $699 US normally translates £699 UK price). It also comes with the Bose QC35ii headphones (worth about £230 in shops). Makes it a bargain over here :)

Nice review video as usual. But your voice feels a little muffled and echoing in this video as compared to more smoother and direct audio. I think there is some issue with the mic
