The part about the OP's mother becoming part owner of the house because there was no will when the grandfather died is also true in my state. One of my uncles died without leaving a will. That meant that the estate was divided according to state law, with the children getting part, and my aunt, the widow, getting part. It worked out fine because they were all reasonable and got along well.

They both agreed she would give him some. Even though he had about as much in the bank himself. His house was run down and he smelled. He invited me to live there in return for improving his house. But he wouldn't let me even put a mattress in the house. Had to sleep in front of the front door. Then lived outside and in the cab of my truck. I left one day. Never talked to him again. First rule of a major lottery win (if allowed by the company as for some, publicity is a requirement) is tell no one, except your bank and a trustworthy accountant. Maye a spouse if they can be trusted. Then take time in deciding what to do with it and set a 50% aside in a decent financial account, to earn interest etc and as a backup. People around you including loved ones can change and not for the better.

This made me cry. I was in OPs position and this triggered me so much. Being disabled she would also add those insults along with the beatings, no matter if i did anything or if my cousins did. I can still remember having surgery, cat on both legs and i was beat for breaking a VCR i couldn't reach. I couldn't even walk with the cast. Anyway ...all my cousins are felons who have multiple kids by multiple people, my aunt is dying from a disease that harms the immune system due to her drug addiction and lack of having her own mind, and i graduated college with a degree, working in a nice position in a court house (degrees in criminal justice), own place and extremely blessed. My mom too. Grandma is also dying and none of the children she favored are there for her. I am not saddened by their circumstances. Me and my mom deserved more.

My own mother did the same thing to me.. she treated my children in a horrific manner. She got my brother to see me the way she does. I have not had a relationship with him in over 20 years it took me years later to find out about narcissism, and wonderful friend to explain that sometimes part of Alzheimer’s or dementia it will wrap into that. I truly believe that she had some huge underlining issues that made her this way… although I was never a teenage mom I was married, but had lost my home my husband too much younger women and had to go across United States to return home to start over.. never in 1 million years what I thought the horrific verbal abuse would’ve spread over to my children from my own mother, nor her behavior. As I am now happily married, and I guess live like that, maybe she thought I should’ve married into the first time, my husband is amazing. I’m 54, I own three horses and just learned how to barrel race that’s how I spend my days I live an amazing life ..Just know OP that you’re not alone. If anything, just know that she has taught to you the most amazing less than that you will ever learn in your whole life. The kind of woman that you never want to be. And also, she also teaches you the true meaning of love and forgiveness, and empathy for others, and what it really means. If OP ever sees this, Good luck to you and your amazing new life

Biggest mistake is to tell someone that you won the lottery.

1. Cassy (I think OP meant Casey or Cassie) for the win! 2. For those who are victim blaming here, they had very limited options if one watched the entire story. 3. Regarding the lottery, grandma, aunt & cousins would have found out of OP's lottery win as that tends to be published in the local newspaper when someone wins the lottery.

That's why you never tell family about your money gains.

In this case, I honestly think the preamble was much much much too long. Great story, but I just vote quick to wait because I was fed up with hearing the same thing over and over and over again until the money was won.

Why was the Doctor Daughter staying at her mother's along with her kids? Also were is Emma's husband? As for the will there would be a copy on file, so even if it was lost, the Judge would have been able to find out what was in it. But I do agree with others, they shouldn't have let the mother know about the lottery win.

Never say anything about lottery to family. I told a relative I won a few dollars in the lotto. He then demanded all of the winnings. I said, ok you wanted the $2 I won, then he said he was joking. I said, I thought he was Greedy. Also, me offering him money did not make an open contract to give him any future lotto winning and that he is an ASS! I do not think he should treat me like that. Blood makes you related, loyalty makes you family.

The poster and her mother could have avoided all of the - 8620. 1)They bragged about the loot. 2)They gave notice of the move and left a forwarding address. Instead of quietly leaving. 3)They kept the old phone numbers. More self inflicted wounds.

I'm surprised OP lasted 15 years in that house. Grandma was a 24/7 nastygram who raised Emma & her crew to be the same. I would have shut down their harassment early on. Was I the only one who wanted to see Grandma and Emma in Judge Judy's court? Rule of thumb is: Don't tell people you came into money.

I respect my elders but if that were my grandmother treating my mom bad I would've not only gave her a piece of my mind but my aunt too. Let's not forget about the cousins, I would've smacked them both for being disrespectful to my mother and cut ties with them all!!!
