El Camino and Rancho are the original "sport trucks". The Camino full box frame makes a pretty sturdy vehicle. These old cars are great for young people to get into the "wrenching craft"

I had this car years ago. Same year, exterior color, interior color, power everything...rotted floorboards and rockers to that aftermarket advanced auto antenna I see there. Blew the rear end out of it and sold it. Unlikely, but I would not be surprised if this were mine.

It's a Ute. Much easier to load and unload than a truck. It's a great shame no one makes them anymore. There were various models and manufacturers making them for the Australian market.

My brother had an '86 El Camino up here in RI. It was a 4.3 V6, basically a 350 with minus two cylinders. He had it a long time too but the combination of RI winter road salt and a dirt drive rusted the crap out of it.

About 2 months ago I saw a beautiful yellow El Camino in perfect condition at a shopping plaza in Nanuet NY. The person behind the wheel was a gray haired older lady who looked about 75 !!

My first car was a 1968 mustang. I bought it in 2009 my sophomore year of high school for $5,000 and my parents hated it. Lap seat belts. No airbags or a/c, drum brakes. It broke down all the time and forced me to learn how to preform repairs. My parents are happy now because I maintain and repair their cars now because I had to learn how to fix my car frequently

From at least one perspective, your grandson made a reasonable choice for a first car. He is sure to learn how to work on cars and there will be no problem finding parts for that. The straight pipes and horn are really dumb, but that can be fixed. Probably should put AC on it.

It’s technically a car and a truck dependent on where you live is which one it will be some states say truck, some states say car The frame is the worst part for them to rust there’s a certain area in the rear of the frame where the upper arms are that always rots away and you can’t repair it if you get beyond a certain point, and the whole rear frame section itself is known to rust away

Scotty does have a point. Code P0420 for example, is a common generic code for poor catalyst performance. 9 times out of 10, it's usually a intake leak or an exhaust leak. But very commonly misdiagnosed as a bad 02 sensor. Bank 1 sensor 1 to be specific.

I used to have a 4 door el camino the rear bumper support was rusted through all the way up to the spring mounts, took some 4x3 square tubing, bolted it in and welded the bumper on

If the owners manual says to use Premium Fuel for your car then yes you need to do so. Damage to the engine can occur due to insufficiant octane for the engine's design.

Hollander Interchange manual will show what parts on suspension, diff, brakes etc. Are interchangeable. I do know that a 69 Chevy wagons front clip and windshield won't fit on a 68 Chevelle SS. They look close but no.

Very cool El Camino!! My grandfather had a baby-blue one. It didn't have chromed parts under the hood, but it had a V8, and it was fast! You gotta love an old-school V8; what a sound....I miss those days. It didn't pass too many gas stations, though, but gas was 25 cents a gallon. Lol. Your grandson has a very nice classic car/truck!!

We don't call them pickup trucks here in New Zealand and Australia just like the 40 ford pickup. we'll call that a truck , Because the cab is separated from the bed . Just the Holden and the Falcon with a bed is attached to the cap. We call them Utes [ Utility ]

Actually the station wagon has a 2inch shorter wheelbase the frames are not interchangeable .The variable weight rear springs are exclusive to the El Camino as well as the factory air shocks. Most of them have the air shocks removed.

This was mainly a 1980-1989 car. My moms friend used to have one of these in Puerto Rico it was a SS same color fast as hell. I must if been 9 years old. They quickly faded after 1990.

If the El Camino doesn't have a lot of substantial amount of rust, then I would assume it can be taken care of as time goes by. I found it to be a pretty solid vehicle & I think you can have some agreement when I say you perhaps have at least a nice small quantity of admiration that your grandson picked out a pretty nice classic vehicle like an El Camino.
