Cute young dreadhead 😍 I had my dreads done when i was 15 so i feel very identified! first year with my pointy baby dreads at high school was weird but cool 😂 i loved wearing them for more than 10 years until they weighted too much and started partially combing/cutting them. Now 35 years old i've started again (or rejoined the journey😬) and still learning, and you are helping a lot!! Thanks 💜

One last BIG question, how would you feel at your current age feel about your mom getting new dreads? Honest!

+Sue Sue Have to admit - I braided then wrapped mine to begin with and when I took the wraps off a year later (cos it took too long to dry!) theyd miraculously locked up a treat! I'd had freds for several years before that cos my hair just wouldnt dread (and I could extend and change the colour/style as I pleased) so I was well happy. Real drteads was my ultimate goal. Nowadays I do a kind of combination of backcombing and ripping (see Lazy's youtubes for creating, washing, maintaining etc)) for new ones and then you do exactly what the good man says and BE PATIENT. ONce the shape is there, the locking up process will just happen like magic. Your hair is perfect for dreading as it looks like it has some curl to it (mines silky smooth) so it should lock up all on its own; just keep the roots apart once the initial sections and dreads are in. (I suggest OCCASIONAL gentle root rubbing ) Yes; sometimes there are stray hairs which pull and hurt to start but hang in there- its SOOOoo worth it!! Your regrowth will (as Lazy says) lock into the dread all on its own. Dont fall into the trap of interlocking (like I did) or crocheting. The only reason I found this guy is cos I was looking for a way out of interlocking megalong loks and turns out I shouldnt of bin doin it AT ALL!!!! I look forward to utilising my newfound wisdom; its so true Youre never too old to learn! Best of luck with yer dreading and hope you dont fall out with yer mam; mine hated my dreads and sadly passed away still unreconciled to them. Ah well. Cant win em all!

Question: Hey man, My hair is straight and I did a pretty average job of knotting up , my dread sections, I'm a bit worried that they will come undone, I have tried back combing to help but to no avail, do I just have to wait it out... (I'm 3 weeks in dreads) Cheers, Sam.
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
Sam Madden Wait it out - if they come undone, they'll need to be redone (in order to keep the sections). If they only come loose, but are still 'together', then leave them be.
@sammadden554010 жыл бұрын
Okay man there still together man so I'll just leave it, Thanks.

lol you were such a cute little teenager. I was really looking into dreads when I was 13-14. I did like 6 months research, I was genuinely dedicated to the idea. I had hair down to the middle of my back that I always kept tied up, simply because I didn't really like my hair. And then, spur of the moment, I decided to saw off a good 8 inches. With a pocket knife. Without a mirror. In the dark. It didn't look really bad... but the next day my mom took me to the salon to fix the so called 'damage', and I decided I wanted it really short. So bye-bye another heck-a-lotta-hair and the longest section was maybe two inches. A year later, its back down past my shoulders and I'm finding myself in the same situation. Its always up and I hate it. So here I am, rewatching all your videos, trying to reestablish what I knew, and staring in the mirror wondering what the heck this is gonna look like. Let's do this.

I got mine done at the salon as well, it has been a little over a month and my hair has calmed down quite a bit but now I have a TON of loose hair and not money to get them touched up. Is there a more simple solution?
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Mckown The simplest solution would be to try and ignore the loose hair as best you can. I would, myself, recommend just trying to encourage it to lock by itself and just leaving it alone. Loose hair is always going to be around, but usually in quite significant quantities while they're so young. Getting them touched up would only be a temporary fix - they would need to be repeatedly touched up to keep them tidy at that age.

okay, this whole dreadlock thing just got ridiculous and confusing to me, cause I just made a comparison between your hair pre-dreadlocks and mine pre-dreadlocks and yours wasn't that much thicker. It was thicker, yes, but not "twice as much dreadlocks" thick. I have around 20 dreadlocks thick as yours, and by the looks of it, they shouldn't be this few. Is it possible to misuse hair or have terrible sections that do not use hair efficiently, or maybe having them done in such a lousy way that I lost huge amounts of hair, ending up with fewer dreadlocks than what you hair could've got? I don't know if this made sense, cause i'm really confused as to why the hell I have this few and I'm just trying to see is there's a logical explanation. Sorry for the kind of ridiculous question
@LazyDreads10 жыл бұрын
NicholasWaits94 The thickness of the dreadlocks depends on how much hair you have. The number of dreadlocks you have depends on how many sections you create.
