There is no deep plot between the doctor and Deku. The doctor did his job and examined Deku and saw that he didn't have the traits to develop a quirk and he informed him as such. If anything the doctor was looking for quirks that could be used for All For One and didn't see one in Deku.

I wouldn't be surprised if he told All for One that Deku was the prime suspect for inheriting One for All. AFO: "Are you sure it's him, doctor?" Dr: "Positive. I diagnosed him as quirkless, myself. It's hard to forget the empty ones."

During season 3, the hand on Shigaraki's face is knocked off by Bakugo at The League's Hideout. At the time, we all assumed that he meant AFO, but this episode reveals that it's his actual Father's disembodied hand that he has holding his face. Disturbing

I don't think there's been an official reason given for reordering the story. The movie could definitely be a part of it. I feel like you guys might be right though, in the sense of wanting to end the season with MVA. A lot of the story arcs in the manga that season covers are basically just set up for the future. Between class A vs. class B, Endeavor, and MVA, MVA is really the only one that's both action and plot heavy, so it kind of makes sense they'd want to end the season on a high note.

Agreed. For example if everything was told in order, the Class A and B fight and My Villian Academia Arc would be right next to each other. Meanwhile, the biggest fight in the back half of the season probably be the 13 second fight against painted lines guy. Then things probably would have ended with the Aizawa episode. Which all works story wise and emotionally, but you're left feeling like the end of the season didn't have as much punch. I can see why they moved things around, but narrative wise it causes a like confusion and makes things weird to go out of order.

@@Chaosm03 I wonder. Especially considering they seem to be adapting several chapters into one episode. In the last one, they covered 229, 230, 231 and 232. And they've managed to do that in other episodes before. Taking into account that there are three to go, if they manage to adapt at least up to eleven chapters, it makes me wonder where it would end up. Since they already took Christmas and part of New Year's from the manga and they have to end it somehow with a little cliffhanger that sparks interest in what's to come, so... Okay, I'm not the sharpest cookie, but I'll try to calculate. Be right back. ♣

This arc was supposed to go before the Endeavor training arc, but they skipped it because the Endeavor arc fit the movie they were trying to promote better. At least that is my understanding. In the manga, there was no backwards time jump as a result. Unfortunately, doing this way spoils some things about how this arc is going to end.

Honestly I’m ok with it as it’s more from the perspective of Hawks investigating as the spy and working out how the hell the league went from a small time gang to an ENORMOUS army with a following. It’s the best way to prevent too much story damage. Which in my opinion was a miraculous pull off. Honestly at the end of the day, it’s a nitpick. Brings this arc from a 10 to a 9 if you ask me. Hardly anything seriously losing it over when we had ample warning to brace ourselves.

@@heartbae87 you had half a season to accept the issues that this presented. The extra filler meant it would be slightly rushed, the time slot meant it would be censored a bit. And what they had to cut was narratively VERY minor. The fact you’re still stuck on these problems is a problem in of itself. There is good here. The arc is not ruined because of ONE aspect. And I’ll die on that hill as no one mistake can take apart a full story arc. Seriously. Go enjoy what we have because it’s still a great arc. And the tension remains in another aspect. Knowing what the villains receive renders the last 2 arcs pointless. These kids are not ready for true organized crime. And seeing it in full function once more is too interesting to be bogged down by this. And what tension?! That the main villains would die? They ALREADY had all the plot armor they needed to survive as they were too much of foils to the main characters! Especially the bigger villain operators! There’s still tension in the moment!

They did more than that the changes dialog, skipped chapters, took out epic scenes just to add still Images... for example the episode where it shows shgariki on the medical table with the doctor their that scene in the manga was blood not lighting and he was laughing in the the manga and that's not even close to what else they changes so fucking dissapointing

A fan theory as to why he told deku that he had no quirk is this: the doctor saw the quirk that deku had/was gonna have and so he stole his quirk and stored it away or used it on a nomu because it was either a very useful quirk or a very dangerously powerful one that would have been bad for the villains.

Itd be cool if we find out he had his quirk stolen and it ends up being a very powerful quirk. *spoilers below this* Even though that may mean that deku dies young since we manga readers know that anybody that has a quirk AND OFA ends up dying much quicker. That is why All Might was able to outlive the previous OFA users, cause he was quirkless.

Ok! Well the doctor is working his butt off. All those Nomu…are on level with the one that nearly killed Endeavor at the end of season 4. And they are considered BENEATH Machia. Even though the league is much weaker without AFO, look what AFO has left them. This is not going to be pretty. The arc switch did mettle with a tad bit of the narrative but not enough to be anything more than a nitpick. This arc had one purpose that still was pulled off excellent. It proved what the kids accomplished meaningless with what they may have to face in a mere instant. And seeing more than a dozen city destroying Nomus ALONG with Machia all being foreseeable assets…you can feel the dread of what the kids are looking to face. The metalib army…brace yourselves for them. We’re in for a RIDE.

Also - all fan theories aside about the doctor "taking Deku's quirk" or whatever, it's very unlikely and would be terrible writing if so. What's better, and more disturbing, to consider, is that the doctor was simply a good, well respected medical practitioner who used his job to get access to great quirks at the hospital - specifically from the dead. It just shows that one of the most horrific people in the series, similar to the people of the Liberation Army, were ingrained in society as regular people. And his interaction with Deku was just a reasonable coincidence, given that he's a quirk specialist.

My theory is that All For One engineered Shigaraki's trauma. If anyone could do it it would be him. Given that he is Nana Shimura's grandson I don't think its a coincidence he found him shortly after and somehow recovered the remains. I question why there are even remains.

One of my favorite arcs, finally. And I love your reactions, guys, so this is even more exciting. In all honestly, while I don't like complaining about an adaptation, there's been some issues... Definitely. Especially with the second part of this season. Manga readers are kinda scared of how they're going to adapt the next episodes for... reasons we can't tell. Spoilers, you know. But with that knowledge, something I would love, even if you don't react to it, is you guys reading at least this arc, but from the original source, the manga, the moment you finish this season. It's there in all it's glory. The MVA arc starts in chapter 220, finishes in chapter 240 , and if you ever read it, I'd love to hear your opinions on that. More than anything I'd just love to know what you think about Horikoshi's (author of MHA) art. There's a lot of page spreads -it would be so satisfying watching you react to those beautiful drawings, specially in this arc, since the anime skipped a lot of content. ♣

Note that some people already mentioned, but yes, the order of the arcs was altered in the anime. (First comes the scene of two boys with new licenses and one unlucky broker, then follows My Villain Academia, then the Endeavor arc.) While changing the order kinda ruins some (a lot of) things, mostly the results, at least finally you'll see the explanation of what happened and won't be confused anymore. Still, it kinda feels like a wasted opportunity to do another filler that never existed in the manga with Selkie when we could've had an episode with Aizawa's past, the extended version from Vigilantes that even some manga readers didn't know about. It would've increased the emotional impact once they finally introduced the chapter with Shirakumo. ♣

@@omegashark1837 Oh, yes, there's a brief and important introduction to Re-Destro in 218 and more important stuff going on even in chapter 219, so you're totally right, 218 would be better to start this arc. I was just pointing out how the MVA arc officially starts at 220, my apologies for the confusion. (Also, since they didn't adapt the scene with Miyashita in the anime, I'm going to take it as it never happened and the poor assistant is fine and nothing bad happened to him.) ♣

It makes sense for the story to be ordered in this way bc ending it in chronological order would have frankly been boring. Imagine starting with MVA and ending with just the school training, or even Endeavor's training. Narrative wise it makes the most sense to have this huge event happen here, even if it's chronologically earlier.

It's often that way with anime adaptations. While mangas don't have much restrains, animation studios are usually limited by the budget, the number of seasons, how many episodes per seasons, the duration of each episodes, etc. So they have to prioritize what to put in while at the same time making sure the story arc ends where it is supposed to by the end of the season. Honestly they are not doing such a bad job, especially if we compare to disasters like the second season of The Promised Neverland.

Shigaraki is a really dope villain who develops along with Deku. And seeing a villain grow as a character is really uncommon. Kinda wish they'd had a five second clip of Shiggy stepping in front of Deku in the opening and decaying the screen. And then have the MVA logo behind him. But oh well.

I don't know who the spy is, but the odds of them currently working for the Metal Liberation Army is practically zero. The spy had leaked information to the League of Villains about UA, which they most likely wouldn't of done if they worked for the Metal Liberation Army, a group that is at odds with the League. Just because they are both bad guys doesn't mean they will get along. I also don't really know the connection between Deku and the doctor, other than I guess seeing him as a child when his quirk didn't manifest. I'm thinking its just that and there is no deeper meaning than Horikoshi wanting to get the character in early. We saw Gigantomachia a few times before, such as in Kirishima's middle school flash back or even a bit shortly after Stain was defeated.

Wonder if they'll ever address why Deku's doctor is the same as Shigaraki's? It does seem suspicious, but nothing has come of it as of yet. There's a theory that Deku originally had the decay quirk, but his mom had that doctor take it away where All for One then gave it to Shigaraki. Just a theory. Not confirmed. They are thinking of bringing Deku's dad into the manga though. Maybe he'll know...

I think people are reading too much into the doctor being the same. Think about this: how would you have the know-how to create the nomu, people/creatures who have the ability to hold multiple quirks? You'd have to have extensive specialized medical knowledge in all things related to quirks. If you had a kid who wasn't showing a quirk past the age when it should have manifested? Probably one of the best quirk specialists you could find, right? Even in a society like this, there can't be a lot of those in a country the size of Japan. Plus they had the whole x-ray and toe joint explanation given to Deku and his mom - you know there's no way Deku never looked it up himself later in life to learn more and really confirm he didn't have a quirk. I really do think it's just an interesting coincidence.

Don’t focus to much about the doctor being the same as delis because ITS JUST A THEORY A FILM THEORY but seriously as a manga reader I can confirm he could just be a completely different guy who’s also bald and has the same glasses but blue instead of green which by the way could be an indicator of him being a new character as when the theory started because of the manga being black and white we had no way of knowing his glasses were different

The anime has been done so dirty just reread the manga arcs for season 5... So let's start..... they censored, left out information, changed dialogue rearranged the chronological order of story, left out whole chapters from the manga.... many more they literally completely changes scenes to the point it feels like a differnt story it's so bad they took all the darkness and emotional attachments to the villains that the manga portrayed so disappointing.... the anime has now become trash if they did this here imagine what they will pull later
