What a lovely selection of colours 💕 Love how you use them in your painting 🥰 the Lilac and Lavender one really remind me of the hue shift in hydrangea blooms, the dark green you created for the trees would go really really well with that. And bushes of that are big enough to be visible if you'd add them into landscapes even if you don't feel like doing florals 😁 The lilac also reminds me of an overcast, foggy sky that just gets tinged with the first bits of sunset pink. They'd also make for great dawn colours together with both of the Jaune Brilliants, don't you think? Not at mass tone of course, but maybe a bit more watered down 😅 And those Jaune Brilliants also make me think of sand beaches, even those usually look nothing like that here in Germany 😊

Thank you very much. I think lilac in the sky will be beautiful. I just have to be brave enough to use it more 😂 I agree that the 4 opaque colors make me think of dawn. There's something very calming about them. Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏

Holbein were my first artist grade paints too and I really like them. That Lavender is lovely, and I also like their Davey's Grey and Marine. I also like their Gold and Silver for some bling now and then.

One of my favorite brands, I love them. I like your colors, I agree with the burnt siena, and the others too 💙... I did a workshop on skies, the painter used many opaque Holbein colors, especially Lavender, Lilac, Blue Horizon, Gray of gray and the two yellows 1 and 2. For me Payne's grey and Neutral tint are by far the most beautiful compared to other brands. Very nice painting and very nice review, as usual.

Thank you very much 🙏 That skies workshop sounds very interesting. I would like to see how all those colors are used. I haven't tried their Payne's Grey but I agree about the neutral tint being very good.

@@JayNathanWatercolor A question, about the paper you use in this painting, is Bao Hong? What type of grain is fine or coarse?
I love Holbein. It was my 1st set as well and try all different brands and always go back to Holbein even as a hobby painter.

Thanks for this video. You selected a very harmonious muted colour palette that suits the type of landscape you painted. That Phtalo Blue Yellow shade looks a lot like Prussian Blue (PB27). I recently bought the small starter set of 6x5ml and am so impressed by these paints. They are so pigmented, transparent and they mix so well. I would like to add some colours and after seeing you use that violet, I think I might have a favourite for my wishlist. Thanks again!

Just got my first 18 count of Holbein delivered. I cannot wait to swatch. I’d like to see how they compare to the Winsor& Newton professional paints. I recently found your videos. I too just started painting within the last two years and I found love in it. Thanks for sharing your gift.

i have the *perylene maroon* and love it. right up there with my winsor & newton version, though they are a bit different and holbein a bit redder. lovely, both. *indigo* and *royal blue* (pb60 indantherene blue) are both fantastic also. i really want to try that burnt umber now. and the sienna is really nice though i try to stay with single pigments when i can. : ) OH! and *quinacridone gold* almost forgot! i recently got that and it is a really stellar version. i like it for sure more than the DS or Schmincke versions. it's more luminous, more interesting. there's a lot of talk online that it's the closest to the original quin gold, so i had to try it out.

I only have a few tubes of this brand, but I am very pleased with them. I haven’t really done wet in wet with them, but it is good to know that they don’t really travel much! Love the palette and your painting is always lovely! Tfs

Holbein colours are very consistent but I find them difficult to rewet. Anyone else with the same feeling? Also they are much much much cheaper when purchased in japan. 4 bucks the 15 ml tubes? Just take my money!!
@JayNathanWatercolor3 жыл бұрын
I don't remember finding them difficult to rewet in the past but I was painting with them every day so they probably didn't have time to dry out fully. Yes Holbein is a lot cheaper in Japan. I think the 60ml tube of lavender I got from Japan cost about as much as a 15ml tube of Schmincke 😂

That Burnt Sienna looks wonderful, and I also like the Raw Sienna. Very nice little painting. I may get a tube of the Burnt Sienna to go with my Mijello set, since the Mijello Burnt Sienna #2 is so awful to rewet. They move about the same. I have the Holbein Marine blue (Phthalo turquoise), and it’s beautiful. Also their Van Dyke Brown made from-the natural pigment NBr8- No. No. No. It’s gritty and horrible, very unusual. The sap green is nice too, pretty vibrant, but can easily be toned with a touch of red or orange or burnt Sienna. Also have the sepia, raw umber, and burnt umbers, all very nice.
@JayNathanWatercolor3 жыл бұрын
Oh I remember having the marine blue. It's such a lovely color. It's a shame that I had it back when I just started painting and had no idea what to do with it 😂 I agree about the umbers being nice. I remember the raw umber being quite yellow (which is how I like it). I've never tried the sap green, sepia or Van Dyke Brown.

firstly, how does the raw sienna rank among your other raw siennas? how do you feel about it being PBr7 and PY42? does it feel more like one than the other? and does the burnt sienna granulate? secondly, i love holbein too! they NEVER disappoint. i’ve considered becoming a holbein loyalist but 1) rembrandt is cheaper 2) holbein’s range doesn’t have all the colours i want. my fave holbein colour would have to be marine blue PB16. it’s just my fave colour, period. 🤣🥳
@JayNathanWatercolor3 жыл бұрын
I like the Raw Sienna a lot and don't mind the PY42 being in there. I think prefer it to the Lukas and Rembrandt ones I have. The Holbein Siennas don't granulate much at all as far as I can tell
