8 months ago, I moved from Canada to Arizona and they are so different in many ways, so I thought I would share my experiences to help anyone wanting to make a big move as well.
Things I LOVE about Arizona so far:
*Very mild Winters, warm enough so I can take long walks outside and still eat on the patios at restaurants! (with a jacket)
*Extremely friendly people, very easy to make friends
*home costs are much less expensive than in Vancouver
*great prices on fruits and veggies! (I'm vegan, so this is a big plus for me!)
*Amazing second hand shopping! The best I've ever seen!
*Great, unique, healthy restaurants. My faves: True Food Kitchen in Scottsdale, Flower Child in Arcadia and Veggie Village in Phoenix... (try the vegan Pad Thai!)
Things I love about Vancouver:
You can walk and be outdoors all year long! (this is a big plus)
Even when it was raining and lightly snowing, I could still bundle up and go on long walks. *Fresh Air *Cleanest drinking water ever *Amazing sushi!

Tucson is so much better than Phoenix in my opinion. Summers there are way nicer there and monsoon season is better it rains way more there in the summer.
@MountainManAbe
@MountainManAbe 6 жыл бұрын
I heard that Phx used to have better weather and the monsoon storms were nicer too just like in Tucson but now it’s so unbearable. The heat island effect is what causes Phoenix to become way hotter at night. It’s a problem that needs to be talked about. The more Phoenix grows, the more the weather and temperature will be affected.

Arizonan native, my family has been in the state since the 1880's, maybe longer, before arizona we became a suburb of every where else, we would cool off at night. People just look at the high temps, not the high of the low temps, we used to all carry sweat shirts or light jackets with us year round, we used to have the high and low temps for the country on the same day, hot during the day cool at night. If you got caught stranded out all night you could get hypertherma. You could see the milkyway in its true brillance, now we have 100 degrees at midnight, it was 102 at 2:30 am with a dew point of 52 degrees and 35 % humidity last week in the north valley, 40 years ago that would have been our high for the day, now its our norm. Why, because the suburbian new residants, have to put in an air conditionar, emitting tons and tons more heat into the air, then the swimming pool is added with addtionnal non desert landscape, so the humidity goes up. So the non native residents of arizona are the causes of major climate change, (global warming). If you wish to deny that humans are a cause of global warming, keep moving to the desert. If you wish to help reverse the human caused portion of the global climate change and you were not born in arizona, or any desert, and havent been here for 35 years, (if born here in the last 35 years, you are a non native) then go back to where you came from, then maybe, if we are lucky, by the next generation, the global warming will start reversing its self, then we all might be able to survive, if not we are all screwed. The hotter the deserts get, the hotter the world will be. It is far easier to heat, warm things than cool things, hot items will cool easier than cool things, unless you add 1 million ac's emitting 160 degree air all day long and 2 million cars emitting 220 degree air all day long. Help save the earth from ourselves, move away from arizona, go home .,

I've also noticed that people in cold places have a way more stand-offish, cold personality and it's super hard to make friends (like in Vancouver/Seattle and cold parts of Europe). @@beemocha Now that wisdom has forced me to swallow the environmental facts (compounded climate change) of AZ, I wonder how many of us NYers gave up on building a house anywhere in AZ? Even north of Maricopa, where it's cooler in Yavapai and Coconini, there are wildfires, which is not really surprising since virtually all the western states got hit with fires, even if some got it much worse. And while you can follow FEMA flood maps to keep your build out of harm's way. wildfires are totally unpredictable. I'm way too much in love with my high end custom home theater gear to simply 'evacuate" and collect the insurance. And it would take me years I don't really have to replace my DVD, BD and CD collections. Human induced climate change and AZ's insane growth rate will also make the SW's natural water scarcity far more dangerous and expensive in the coming years. All of this probably sounds petty and silly but I've been in love with the idea of retiring to AZ and select places in NM forever. But after months collecting stats and probability data from federal and state agencies and numerous news reports found here, I've been forced to hold wisdom's coat while it kills my dream.

Housing in Arizona significantly increased. The traffic has become horrible from everyone moving here. My once 20 minute drive to work is now an hour drive. These have to be the dumbest reasons to move here (Arizona). You can get fresh produce anywhere. Does the sunshine you get out-way the 115 degree temps? IMO I would stay clear of this state. In fact we’re trying to get out as I write this.

The summers in phoenix are really not that bad. Obviously you will have to work on getting used to it however after a few years they are not that bad. When it comes to Arizona their are so many things to do to get out and enjoy scenery like sedona, slide rock, meteor crater, petrified forest, etc. If you want snow you can go to Flagstaff. For me I would rather be in the sun that's 115 degrees than live in a snowy state. I hate snow and cold. Family goes out from Michigan to PHX to visit and they get way over dramatic about the heat. They make it sound like it's the end of their life. I go to Michigan and I'm ready to die when it's 30 degrees. Also family in michigan like to use fans even in the winter because they need a " breeze". I however have to walk to another spot because I'm freezing with that fan on

Phoenix rental market is a bit pricey but it is not Vancouver BC level! I live in Portland Oregon and I looked on craigslist and most apartment rentals are about the same prices maybe a bit less. On top of that most complexes have a pool, fitness centre, and the square footage you get is usually more! In Portland I would have to pay a few hundred more to have a complex with those amenities.

Here in AZ We Have the most Beautiful SKies Though! I’m in love with our sunsets and our winter . In the Summer my kids and I are grumpy outside and makes us feel yucky outside, so we stay in doors only leave when we have to. I wish it wasn’t that way I’m a nature person and I love being in the woods and beach and I love overcast weather. The monsoon only hit once this summer so far and it was small and short. I wish it would hit all summer long I love the rain And storms. You have to have a tough soul to live here over a long period az sun will beat you down and expose you. It can be healing in many ways or too much for some ,It truly is a journey to live in a desert. 🌸💋❤️

I just found your channel, and it’s pretty great content. I live in Seattle and we are similar as far as costs in regards to rent and housing. I am considering selling my Condo and buying in Arizona and pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars and I would use that for traveling. I am also thinking of having a place in Washington not Seattle but towards the East part of the State, or up North past Everett Washington. There is a park outside my widow about two blocks from where I live looking North. I live about three blocks from the I -5 Freeway around the U of W. Now looking out my window to the park I see about seven “Tents” where the homeless are camping. By the freeway there are about two dozen or more camping close to the ramps. I know BC has a homeless population problem too, how about Arizona?

I went directly to Ventura and had a good swim. But I do love Arizona in the winter love the desert landscape, I do hate all that building that's killing the beauty of the desert. My family and I stayed at a Resort in Scottsdale we spend a lot a time swimming and back to our room when it got hot, I love my glow tan that I got from the AZ Sun...thank you Arizona

Good to hear your take on the move. Yeah the night heat is just odd. I live near San Francisco and that rolling fog really cools the nights off. Great it's been very positive for you both. :)

I have lived in Arizona for 23 years and have only experienced a scorpion about 5x and it was at a friends house. One time I was in the shower and it was in the vent above me 😂 but, to only experience a scorpion about 5 times in 23 years....pretty good. It's not super common and there are some neighborhoods you'll never even see them.

I have lived in AZ for 14 years. It can get to 113-115 during the day, but then down to about 90 degrees at night, during the worst of it. We do things very early in the day. We do have options such as driving to Flagstaff or Sedona where it is much cooler.

@@jonathna11 Actually the humidity rises beginning in July and continues that way to early September. That is when we get the dust and thunderstorms. You just put up with it for those 60-75 days, and then the weather is great again for 9 months.

Hi Melissa! I love these videos about Arizona, since I'm considering on moving there! Question... When did you notice it start getting really hot? From what I've heard, I think those really hot months only last until September or so! Not too long to have to endure the heat... hehe. I would love to see some vlogs or videos of you going throughout your day in AZ. I'd like to see the area that your in! Thanks!!

@@patpatmoomoo5524 LA, Northern CA, WI,Europe. This was a lifetime. I struggled in automotive (BMW GM Honda) while in Tucson. There was simply not enough work to go around. My move to Milwaukee right around 2000 allowed me to pay off a student loan. I believe the answer to low wages is to move,rather than complain year after year. Now I am back in Tucson,retired. Great place to retire to. Phoenix. All the bad things LA has but without a beach. For the longest time (with Joe Arpaio as Sheriff of Maricopa Co.) I would not even stop there for gas.
