as a song “IZNA” was everything we didn’t need: empty chorus, repetitive and unoriginal melody, under 3 minutes long, very short bridge despite being the best part of the song…iland’s original songs were wayyyy better, what happened to the original plot??

Jeemin only has 1/2 proper line in “izna” so I think her having the chorus is fine. For Koko however since she already has a rap verse, it could’ve been given to Saebi like the 2nd chorus and then Jungeun/ Mai for the 3rd chorus

@ simply put marketability. It’s much easier to promote the group with a Center and Face of The group. the center and Face act as the recognisable members who the company thinks most likely to bring in new fans to the group. The center is the member that anyone can look at on stage and everyone knows what group is performing even if you are unfamiliar. For example Nayeon is immediately associated with Twice, Jungkook BTS and Jennie Blackpink.

@@Stay_Zerose thank u for the explanation i follow ateez and they dont seem to do this centre visual nonsense which is refreshing to say the least but so far every survival show ive watched has had one if nit more than ine "centre slash visual" and honestly it did nothing for me just gave petty narcissism masked with them needing to be above their other performers, some of the ones i personally prefer never debut nor get through the first round and they always go for the standard typical idol look too. its like they cant have or be anyone different its really vein and plain as their personalities or lack thereof. i dont think they should be peddling the it girl it boy things as much as they do either again reeks of self absorption / the idols personal obsession with always needing to have a killing part or the centre of it. its nice when an idol can surprise u by being something different

I think both Jungeun and Saebi have a lot bigger international fandom than domestically in South Korea. The international fans are probably the main reason why they both made it into the top 6 in the final vote in the finale last July.

Jeemin, Koko and friends is so true. I really even thought they might push Saebi a little more than Koko but I was completely wrong. I would also like to add Jiyoon to this Jeemin and Koko lineup, but I feel as if she was pushed but not to a crazy extent. I barely even heard Mai, and Saebi seemed liked she was fighting to be heard. Sarang was the only member with decent lines I think. Edit: I forgot Jungeun. I was actually okay with her lines. She has a part in the intro and bridge. Pretty decent-ish. In timebomb, however, she got way more lines and got to show more of her vocal ability.

I was trying to be positive because i'm glad sarang shined with her rapping and i'm also aware that there are girls who got even less lines than her, but since she's my bias i can't deny i was a bit sad...she and jungeun are the all rounders of the group and i'm disappointed we didn't really get to see much from them.

It's a debut, Wakeone is definitely playing it safe here by putting the more popular members in the center to garner more attention from their individual fanbases. But I do agree, maybe Saebi and Mai could've gotten the second chorus. Don't get me wrong but Mai's vocals can be pretty hit or miss but I think with the proper parts that fits her (like her part in the second verse of 'Timebomb'), she could also shine and stand out just like the other members. As for Saebi, she possesses a wonderful tone that I wish could be utilized more in the future. So please, don't judge IZNA just because of one song. (Also Wakeone stop trying to be the next SM, you literally have 3 active groups)

I know that iland doesn't work like produce and the 1st isn't automatically center, but you would think that there would be a benefit for ranking 1st, right? After all she literally won the competition, so the least wakeone could have done would have been giving her some more screen time or center time. These are just my opinions. Everyone can feel free to disagree. 1- I feel bad for Jungeun. She's a great vocalist but she didn't get any attention at all. And Jiyoon was under utilized. We know she can deliver unique lines, but these types of songs just don't have space to showcase vocals. 2- I knew Koko would be pushed in the group when they gave her 2 main positions. 3- I think Sarang is super talented and a total ace. This might be an unpopular opinion, but her rapping tone is just not my favorite personally. But I still think she's the best for the lead rapper position. 4- I think it's a mistake to make a group with rap and empty choruses. Of course there will be an imbalance since most of the girls are vocalists. I think they should have focused more on vocals and dance since that's their stronger area. 5- Mai is beautiful, but I knew she would receive no lines since she's the weaker vocalist. She was also always pushed to be a 'one liner' in the show. But I don't know why they saved her if they are not gonna give her any lines or attention. She could have definitely done a 'na' chorus. Still, I do think her visuals are striking and a unique touch for the group. She really doesn't need to say much to capture attention. 6- With Saebi, her position was always center in the show. But they already had a center with Jeemin. So it makes me wonder why they saved her when they don't really need her. I say this as a Saebi stan. She feels like filler. And it sucks cause she could have been a great center in any other group. 7- Jeemin is a great center. I just wish the others had more attention. Still, she did a great job. Overall I think the debut was OK. None of the songs are standouts to me. But this is just their debut. I really hope they change things up for their comeback.

Saying this as someone who has had Jeemin as their one pick since runext, the reason they gave Saebi barely any lines is probably because they thought she would be “competition” for Jeemin. Me personally have always found Jeemin as the most eye catching center, but Saebi definitely gives her a run for her money, this can be seen through the itnw performance. Saebi got the least amount of lines yet she was one of the most memorable trainees from that performance. So they were probably scared that if they give Saebi a lot of lines or a part in the chorus, she would outshine Jeemin And the same would’ve happened vise versa, had Saebi been the center, they would have to push Jeemin a little to the back so that she wouldn’t outshine Saebi

I watched some kpop content creators during that time that speculated that WakeOne decided to put her because Jungeun was first and koreans disliked her, the group already had two japanese members (Mai basically got through Japan votes) and Sarang was chosen mostly by the Chinese audience. So, they decided to put Saebi to please the Korean audience.

I feel like we shouldn't be concerned with the distribution of 2 new songs that are already short. If it was ~6 new songs of the same formula then maybe I'd see reason for concern. The identity of each song is more important than trying to cram everyone in together for the sake of fairness. Enjoy the songs for what they are and wait until we get a bigger release. We know other girls can take over a performance. It'll happen.

I see many people on all platforms saying that Jungeun's case is like Jungwon's, first place and they are not in the center. But despite Heesung's lines, Jungwon is 2nd in line distribution and 3rd in center distribution, Jungeun is 5th in line distribution and 6th in center distribution. So I don't think the cases are very comparable. Some people also say that it's just their debut and they have 7 years left, so let's not rush. What can we expect when some of the girls have not been given so much importance since their survival. Also, some Jeemin fans complain about the hate that Jeemin gets because she has the biggest spotlight in the group, and I don't support the hate because she is very beautiful and a very good center, but surely if Jeemin was the last one, they would probably complain too. The debut is like the first impression and with this debut they are just implying that nothing else matters but three members. All of my girls are very talented and have worked hard to get where they are, so I hope they get all the attention they deserve, they all have the right to shine like Koko, Jiyoon and especially Jeemin. I will continue to support the debut, watch the fancams of ALL of them because they ALL deserve love and hope for the equality that we needed since Iland2.

Actually this is interesting to me because I tuned to their debut to be actually very vocally attracted to Jungeun. I had nooo idea she came in first in the survival show because she very much felt like a lead vocal, but then again not all survival show have their first place as centres. But I'm really shocked at how few lines she gets overall because at least to me she is without a doubt the second best singer. I really feel like more of the discourse should be placed on her not having more parts rather than the maknae.

It’s so simple - Saebi was never as popular among the girls. Maybe in other counties yes, but her popularity here in SK the main kpop market is near the last. I don't think Jeemin is an objectively better center than Saebi, they're pretty much equal, it's just that wakeone wants Jeemin to be the only center (along with koko) and since Saebi is the main "competitor" for center spot, the company was lowkey trying to hide her away. We could have gotten Jeemin, Koko and Saebi center trio (which was very pushed in iland 2) but all we got was Saebi in the background.

And I will tell you the lines they gave her were not doing her justice. Saebi dancing the chorus of izna is so good u can check in a fancam. Also if u think abt it, the current concept of the group isn't neither fully cool or cute. That's why I would loved to see more of her. Becuz esp in timebomb which is more cheerful than other songs, saebi would have pulled of the first part of the chorus than jeemin did. Jeemin does pull of certain parts best but I do think saebi has to get center treatment so that everyone including u ( didn't watch the show) can see her skills. Saebi stans know her from I land2 and were esp sad becuz saebi didn't get to show her potential properly. Sorry for the long writing

But you're right, until I see her properly get more center parts I guess I'll be able to give my full thinkpiece on it. She definitely shone in Panorama the most.

And there is nothing much to do about it, that why aurvival show group don't go far although they are some exceptions even that is few. I'm definitely not saying her lines should be given to other members, but in order to make things better and have others shine in the chorus too, someone else could have gotten one of jeemin's chorus parts and in exchange jeemin could have gotten that other member's part in one of the verse. Are we surprised? The whole show was Jeemin and friends, of course it's gonna be the same now. This was so mid. Mid vocals, mid rap, mid center.What was the point of spending so much time on Jeongun vs Jiyoon as main vocalists if at the end we are gonna end up holding them back so they don't outshine the Stan attractors? And what about Saebi? She was a producer pick because of her center quality yet now she became the filler member? How about Mai getting so much screen time while others are barely visible? A mess. I-Land 2 should be renamed to "Let's find some girls Jeemin can debut with"

I personally don't think Jeemin is a mid center at all, but it's pretty clear that wakeone is determined put the spotlight on her and Koko. I honestly didn't think this would happen because watching iland2, it was clear that people like Jiyoon and Saebi were very much liked by the judges and the producers. The show did a lot to make them stand out and so i was expecting to see them getting more attention at debut (Saebi especially). At this point i think wakeone is just playing it safe: they know Jeemin is the most popular and they're pushing her so much to try and bring in more new fans. I just hope that as time goes by and all the girls grow their individual popularity, we'll start seeing a more equal treatment.

@ Mid as in average compared to other groups. Not a Wonyoung, an Ahyeon, or an Ella. Even if she was in ILLIT, she’d be in the back with Yunah, the Center would still very much be Wonee. I understand she was the most popular among the contestants and members, but honestly in the long run (if properly managed) I can see Saebi becoming as much as an icon as Wonyoung.

Don't bring other groups into this because they have nothing to do with izna. Of course there will always be more popular members, but that doesn't mean that we can't possibly criticize a company for unequal line/screen time/center distribution. If you're taking this as an attack to koko, jeemin or izna in general, you're misunderstanding. Choruses are always distributed among different members as it should be.
