Tbh i completely agree with the comparison between jungeun and fuko. Neither of them had an impactful storyline that made them stand out, but jungeun simply had those crazy vocals and that’s what made her memorable. If jungeun had not been carried by her impressive vocals then i’m almost sure fuko would have debuted as the second vocalist along with jiyoon (who had an incredible story arc)

Either way, I feel like the girls who did debut have potential, it just matters if they will work with that potential (both the girls and the company) or not. Well also Jungeun also fell to 10th place so her fans got worried and voted for her. Also what made me decide to vote for her over Jeemin (who was originally my one pick) was that knetz were harshly criticizing her visuals and made some derogatory comments about her and how she looked like a "foreigner" even though she's not a foreigner and it made me angry. So I voted for her because I thought koreans wouldn't and I thought it was unfair that someone so talented might not debut for such a shallow reason. Jungeun deserved that number 1 spot and I am happy global fans recognized that.

Jungeun auditioned as a dancer plus shes an ok rapper giving her a very obvious ace title. Plus she still had a story since she was a big part in Jiyoon’s arc which made her seem more real and also memorable. Plus people wanted the two of them to debut together

The main reason Fuko didn’t debut is because she didn’t have a huge one pick fanbase, she was in nearly everyone’s top 6 but she wasn’t taht many peoples top 1. Another thing is that the few people that did have her as their top 1 didn’t prioritise voting for her as they thought she was safe

exactly, like she was in my top 6, but my one pick was either koko or jiyoon, and the reason i never considered fuko isn't even because i thought she was safe but because she doesn't have an interesting storyline/arc in the show, she's always just been... there. plus, i really didn't think her vocals and style suited the direction the group was going for, which i did take into consideration while voting. slight side tangent, i do think that jungeun placing 10th in that one mission was part of a strategy to make people jump at voting for her, since a lot of people started to assume she was safe because she was always top but her dropping down made a lot of people vote. they knew the group needed her for vocals, so i think that's also where a lot of votes which otherwise would have gone to fuko or other trainees went, because of the scare of jungeun maybe not making it to the lineup.

Pretty spot on, it also makes sense to consider Gyuri as just a piece of the puzzle to boost Sarang’s story arc and to create a sort of false illusion of an unexpected debut. She was one of my top picks and i’m sad she didn’t make it, but realistically speaking she never had a real shot at debuting. She was simply used as a “plot device”.

I personally think that since the beginning they aimed for 2 japanese members, Mai and Fuko. I believe the original lineup included Yuju and Fuko, however after part 1, they realized Koko could easily fill in the role of Rapper+Dancer+Japanese member, and I believe she replaced them both. In survival shows with large amount of contestants and small amount of group members, being able to fill multiple roles is crucial. Now, instead of debuting a rapper(Yuju), main dancer(Sujung), and a Japanese girl(Fuko), Koko could replace all three of them easily.

Yeah, Koko was talented from the beginning, but people really first started to notice her, when she got a drastic increase in screen time by mnet during IWALY test, before she got barely any screen time, probably because Mnet didn't have her in mind yet, as they realized she could execute multiple roles (main dancer/ main rapper) in the lineup

All i can say is that fuko’s votes have gotten progressively lower as time went by, so clearly people were not seeing that ‘something’ that her fans saw in her. My theory is that there was a lot of clout around her because her fans were very vocal about supporting her, but truthfully her fanbase has never been that big in my opinion.

Yeah, her fans was the opposite of Sarang fans. We know they were there, but we didn’t know how many they were and they really came through for voting. People kept saying her votes were consistent but it really wasn’t. But this time the global vote pretty much lined up with their picks so it didn't matter. They just wanted Mai in the line up. The problem is that Fuko was considered a lock by basically everyone, so they thought she was safe and didn’t vote for her. Whilst it can be subjective, fuko stands out in unique facial expressions that have been shown to show versatility depending on concept (concept isn't just cute and girl crush, there are at least 50+ concepts) which can be shown in IWALY, Bad Boy, Final Love Song, Into the New World and Fake It. And what I have noted from Sarang is that she usually has a blank face when she isn't in the center/performing her part. Just because fuko didn't 'stand out to you during a performance does not mean she has weak stage presence, there is a reason she has been center multiple times and has scored very well (Mind you she was the highest scored member in 4 Walls from the audience).

I want to talk about Mai too, I started watching Iland because of Mai, because of Drama obviously. Her voice, without commenting on whether it was good or not, was so unique and adding her beautiful visual completely sold me I have to say that she didn't have much screen time but I was still always aware of her because she attracted me. I really liked her personality, a calm older sister willing to work hard without complaining in front of the others. Her development, I feel like it was on stage since she had very little camera time outside of it (damn!!!!) Her vocal development was very nice to see!!! That's why when someone complain that their choice failed to debut compared to Mai, I feel sad.

Mai doesn’t have the best skills but she always made up with her stage presence. In I Am The Best, she literally has 3 lines and she made herself memorable. Even my friend who only joined me to watch the finale, said Mai is a stand out in Fake it. Personally, Mai is up there with Jeemin when it comes to stage presence and a lot of people don’t want to admit it because their faves are more “talented”

that's also what i thought, that group simply didn't need another vocalist, especially for a black label group who is most likely going to focus on performance and rap elements, 3 powerhouse vocalists is unnecessary. unis is an absolute shitshow of members, with zero cohesion, and in illit everyone else's talent was sacrificed for wonhee's cute concept. in comparison, izna has a really strong lineup that i honestly think can pull off most concepts. also think that even though a lot of people are hating on mai making the lineup, i think she is the ideal addition, because she has the perfect image for a black label group, and whether we like it or not kpop is a very visual-based industry, and they do need an iconic center/face of the group to bring in new fans and generate hype, plus she works very hard and i have no doubt she will improve by the time they debut.

They will be under WakeOne as a group, so technically, the TBL group will be their girl group if they are debuting them at all. The think that I hate more is that half of those trained that were in iland 2 were used solely to boost other girl; for example Sujung was mainly used to push Jiyoon as a caring leader (in the I am the best mission), Gyuri was used to push Jeemin as a leader, center, caring and loving person, Yuju was used to push Koko as a better performer and rapper, Fuko pushed Jeungeun as a good leader and all things like this. They literally gave them zero screen time unless it was useful for other trainee. Meet failed their own trainee once again

At the end of the day, fuko fans need to realize that the reason Fuko didn’t debut is her own fans overestimating her one picks. Some assumed she was safe (always in the top6) and the pds will have her back (ranked 4th in the semi finals). We tried to warn you guys that no one was truly safe but she still ended up 8th in votes and the blame is on fuko fans who haven’t voted, not mnet’s, not the pds and not the other contestants.

I agree with you that Fuko didn't have any challenges in the show or a good story line. Also it feels like something changed after part 1. In part 2 it was clear that mnet didn't want her. Probably they had decided the concept and fuko didn't fit in (which is most likely considering teddy is producing the group and fuko fits the elegant style more). As someone who has voted for fuko everyday I feel people are crazy for hating on the izna members. Some fans really need to learn how to move on.

In their performance, Juwon had a lot of screen time. It makes me believe she was a pick to debut, but for some reason she didn't get popular and they ended up dropping her. Fuko lost because fans didn't vote enough for her and because the producer assigned her a rap part and she couldn't do it. For me that was the determining part where the producer could decide if she fit the group he wants to form. Sarang achieved it and accompanied by the votes of her fans she managed to be part of the group. The truth is that Fuko may not have been cast because she just doesn't fit what producer Teddy does.

@@cynthixc That's not really an excuse though, English is the kind of language you don't need to try hard to learn since it's everywhere and the main language online. Korean is pretty similar to Japanese and I can assure you, it's really not difficult for japanese people to learn korean. If anything, the easiest language to learn for japanese is korean. And since Fuko did well at school, it wouldn't be a problem to learn english as well. Which is also why you are right by saying that they should have let Fuko train to master it. Because she can. TBL likes that their idols knows how to speak english unfortunately, it might have been a disadvantage for her to show it in the finale. But I'm sure Fuko will be recruited by other agencies, I'm not anxious for her. She has the talent, the visual, and the linguistic ability. TBH I agree with Fuko, there was a reddit forum where I predicted that FUKO wouldn't make it (Got Downvoted) because I lay down the facts in terms of versatility. What the heck is an all-rounder- concept singing 4 walls? It's just the same FUKO from beginning To mention, if you have your top 6, mind you, talent chemistry is very important. There are a bunch of center material in the group that everyone loves which leads you to select who the best vocalist will be and in terms of dynamics. We have both seen FUKO and JIYOON duet as well as FUKO and JUNGEUN duet but it sticks more that JUNGEUN AND JIYOON will be perfect match due to the resounding drama build up and relationship. There are no cute interactions between FUKO and other vocalists other than practicing. She wasn't even struggling I was actually thinking If I were FUKO, I will showcase my faults here and there little by little and some intentionally shortcomings just so the camera would pan to me. Like supressed emotions. I am an ENTP so I would do that if I were in my shoes ahahajhaha Too Good to be Perfect is also a shower curtain to fall.

I agree with most of your statements. The only thing I want to add on is that I felt Jiyoon and Sujung swapped storylines. Like you mentioned in part 1 mnet painted Jiyoon’s blunt personality in a negative way. Meanwhile they were showing Sujung as being a great team player and a good leader. In part 2 Sujung’s blunt personality was painted in a negative way and Jiyoon was given more of a positive team player storyline. Like you mentioned we all have our ideal lineups, mnet included, but I wish mnets method of getting rid of a contestant didn’t include tearing down a 17 year olds self esteem. Also I was disappointed to hear Sujung saying that about Mai but I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt seeing that she had been portrayed differently prior. I was surprised to see so many people dropping her after that one incident though. Plus the hate comments that she got then and even still now are ridiculous 😢

i agree so much. the sujung drama seemed odd to me because there was literally no context to the clip. we don't know why sujung did what she did, whether someone else brought it up before her, how the other trainees reacted to it. we don't know if sujung talked to mai about it or if she apologized. like you said, the sudden storyline change between jiyoon and sujung. maybe they realised that jiyoon is getting more popular. this just goes to show how powerful editing is. we have almost no idea what really happened.

Fuko straight up kept getting passed and outshined by others,, she’s is a solid trainee, but also one of the longest trainees, as a producer that’s a bit alarming, she didn’t go the extra mile in performances,, it was heartbreaking seeing her not make it, but she wasn’t bringing anything to the table the that the others could also support in terms of roles in the group she’s not the best dancer or singer or rapper.. she’s well rounded but not ranking higher than the rest. Honestly I was mad at first that Gyuri, Fuko and others didn‘t debut, but in the end it may aswell have been the best outcome out of the show! Gyuri and Fuko would‘ve been treated as some useless tools with some lines while they both have Main vocalist potential/Talent or (mainly gyuri) could‘ve been the center. Izna was obviously never supposed to be vocal centered group, mainly one for good performers! Gyuri,Fuko, Yuju, Juwon and Sujung would all shine in a company like Jyp since it would showcase all their talents (Jyp is basically known for having all rounder idols) Besides since Iland 2 was actually a seemingly „pleasant“ show for the final 12 contestants it must‘ve been a good lesson and a kind of boost to become an idol since normally a lot of trainees don‘t get good feedbacks from their own company.

I honestly think that fuko and gyuri doged the huge bullet that is Teddy's production and wakeone's management. Like seriously, think about it. In pt2 they were primarily slotted into the elegant/cute concept. A teddy produced group will most likely have a darker, more teen crush concept (I think they're gonna go in the direction of early itzy, mainly wannabe). So even if they were to debut, they would have been treated like filler members or backup dancers, and then they never would have stood out in the group. I think debuting in another group in the next year or two would work the best. Like, imagine them being an SM 5th gen gg? It would be so iconic.

I still don't get why people think she was badmouthing Mai???? I just rewatched the clip and it seems to me she was discussing what she thinks the judges will say and how Mai's voice is nasally because of where she sings from. People say she was laughing at her, but Yuju commented 'You know, but you won't tell her?' and they laughed because Sujung said it was an individual competition. They were laughing at the fact that the competition has changed so now they don't want to help each other as much. Please explain, I'm sorry bit I'm just genuinely confused.

This is what you should do." Mai was a soft spot for most people. Because throughout the competition she always put others first. Her famous line for me was "no matter how small the part or what song I will shine " (when her and Yuju were conflicting over whistle Vs panaroma).... In the same episode we saw Koko helping Saebi and Jeemin who were not even in her team for the money performance. The contrast of attitude between Jiyoon &Koko versus Sujung was too high in that episode.

In my opinion the whole Mai and Sujung situation was really weird. I'm not sure at what point she was evil-edited but it's not the first time they script something in a survival show (Fu Yaning saying "we go up but you don't" in Helipcopter to Yujin) because the next episode we saw Mai and Sujung getting along well and supporting each other. Sujung even mentioned her in her discourse when she was eliminated. I don't think the problem was Sujung not knowing how to work in a group because we clearly saw during latata how she helped Koko and make sure she voiced out her opinions since Koko didn't feel confident with being a leader. She reminds me of Soyeon from Gidle in some aspects. She tried to highlight every girl in the group and getting the least lines because she already knew she was going to be eliminated after that performance not matter how good she did. The problem was that it was already too late for her to have a redemption arc. For the I am the best team it was a different situation because it was an individual competition not a group one and she was still having hope of debuting because she was 4th in votes at first (even above Gyuri) but mnet took advantage of her overconfidence and made her look bad.

I did all sheet music for ILand's original songs that as you might guess involves a scrupulous listening to every note and absolutely can't agree with show's description of her as a vocal position. Her vocal is off-pitch, very thin and timbre-less. She struggles with and wanders around notes. Her position was "Japanese", a group needs Japanese members to appeal to Japan's market. Her competitors were Koko and Mai and Japanese voted for Koko and Mai.

I think the finale challenge was meant to test if the contestants who were low in votes can convince the pds to choose them. Jeemin, jungeun, koko, jiyoon were getting a lot of votes with huge gaps from the rest. Sarang, mai, and fuko were given challenging parts to test out wether they were needed or not in the “pre-confirmed” lineup. Sarang and mai excelled in their given parts but fuko didnt.

your statements are so on point, people have to stop hating and understand that this is a survival show after all. and i want to add that fuko didn't make it because people were so sure she was a guaranteed member so that they started voting for others instead, thinking that there would be enough people voting for her, and that's what exactly happened with jeemin in RUNext before. also about being a pd's pick, i believe that the producers already have a concrete group concept in mind. considering this, the other members will suit the tbl style better than fuko. similarly, jeemin wouldn't have suited illit's image.

If Sujung had been blunt in part 1 and had switched to the great leader that was actually showcased in part 1, her popularity might've secured her spot. If Jiyoon hadn't showed her personality in part 1 and had in part 2, she wouldn't have been that popular w/o that many chances in debut.. They could've not done that to Sujung, but they DID. And they did that because they did not like her. I think Sujung is fit for another group, or maybe a more harsh svs.

I really can’t understand the complaints about Fuko not having enough time to practice the rap. Like it’s the LAST presentation on the show, she could’ve challenged herself into different roles before. A lot of other trainees couldn’t speak English too or even Korean, unfortunately that’s not an excuse. We saw Koko struggling with the rap parts cause she’s not fluent, yet she did it well. Sarang also did it. You all have to accept that Fuko doesn’t fit the concept of the group. I really would like to see her at SM, since she’s really talented and fits better the vibe of their groups, like Red Velvet.

Fuko had the most performance lines from the breakdown videos I've seen in the show, but ultimately she didnt even make the top 7 votes at the end wth her popularity. She was a great vocalist, but she was third place behind the other 2 main vocalists and her final performance was her weakest in the show so I wasn't surprised she didn't make it. Gyuri was amazing, but I thought she was just a bit too young and she killed more of the cute concepts - think she might not have been the best fit for this final group. She is the one out of all of them I really hope to see debut one day.

I'm gonna say this: idols biggest appeal is their character and storyline, that's why concept can make or break a group, even a previously successful group can fail when their comeback's concept sucks. A lot of Kpop fans are in denial, saying things like talent is the most important thing. Not saying it's not important, but if you've spent enough time in Kpop, you would realize that charisma, stage presence, interesting character are even more important to sustain your career. Being good enough like Fuko only landed her as the fans' backup choice. This is why a lot of main vocalists, despite their skills, doesn't have successful solo careers. In any groups (except maybe small groups), there's always one (or maybe more) member who plays it safe and just there, fans of the group would argue that they're talented but then at the same time don't really hype up this member. This member would always be in the bias list: "oh I like A, B and C in this group", but when fans had to choose only one bias, C wouldn't really be picked. In my opinion, this is Fuko and Yurina.

After the 1st test in Part 2,I feel like the line up has already been decided and the other girls,Sujung,Juwon,Yuju,Fuko and Gyuri were just highlighted to boost the other girls popularity in some way.Like, despite doing well,Jungeun and Saebi's rank kept on dropping and they were effected a lot due to that since both of them used to getting high rank, they show tons of Sarang and Mai losing their confidence,I feel like they did all this so the mentioned girls can gain sympathy and more fans.Also during the final test,they made it seem like Gyuri was too being greedy with lines and keep on complaining to Jeemin who was the leader so Jeemin gave up almost all her lines,and then Jiyoon from other team stands up for her so people can become more interested in her and Jeemin also gain alot of sympathy from the people.They show a clip of Jungeun and Jiyoon reconcile so Team Jungeun and Team Jiyoon fans united to make both girls debut.Koko keep getting praises from producers,it was kinda obvious that even if she didn't win by votes, producers would pick her,and her lovely personality and struggling with Korean was being highlighted heavily towards the end.They never really show much of Yuju so peole would lose interest in her,they keep making it seem like they really like Fuko and that made her fans confident about her debuting ,while they keep using Gyuri and Sujung as the bad guys and yall know how Juwon is like she didn't even made it to part 2.It feels like they already planned everything ahead

I think the PDs didn't want to choose Jung-eun and Hooko, but domestic and foreign viewers were too concerned about Jung-eun's debut, and as a result, Jung-eun is overwhelmingly No. 1 and Hooko is out of the rankings... If Jung-eun's votes had been dispersed a little bit among the lower ranks, the ranking would have changed slightly, and Hooko might have been in the rankings...

The underlying reason for these trainees not debuting is that the show producers didn’t want them to (as much as those that did). Storylines and characters arcs are deliberate and edited to push certain narratives to the show’s audience, and the same can be said about not giving trainees screentime. Kinda disappointed at the results, but not entirely surprised. Mnet’s tactics have become pretty predictable. All that said, Izna is still a pretty solid group and I’m looking forward to their debut~

Koko with limited knowledge of english and korean, was getting better at rapping at a surprising degree every week, was she at yuju's level by the end? probably not, but her upside as a rapper is HUGE....she will get to that level sooner than later. Meanwhile Koko is on another planet as a dancer, she completely laps Yuju.

Truth about koko vs yuju is producers 110% wanted Koko to debut ( look how they showed her rank for final voting just after 1 day because she was placing 8th) they wanted her for visual mainly as this show only ever focused on that, if not for visuals they would easily ignore her dance skills or stage presence like they did with sujung or juwon. And they pushed her as a rapper even if she’s max sub-rapper because she can’t sing well and also they could make a reason why lineup doesn’t need yuju since producers don’t want her in the lineup. If they wanted both, koko would be pushed as main dancer and yuju as main rapper and all rounder. Conclusion here is that mnet just manipulated the shit out of audience and their decisions on who they wanted to debut was based on KBS(korean beauty standards) mainly. exception for this this were main vocals, however they did tried to push out Jungeun, and if not for votes maybe she wouldn’t even debut, not certain if they wanted her in lineup.

Every main reason why your picks got eliminated; Fuko - Her fans dropped her because they thought she will be a 100% Producer Pick. Gyuri - It was honestly too late for her to debut. Her best performance was 4 Walls which was in Part 2. Most of the izna members strengthen their fanbase from Part 1; Jungeun: Drama Performance Jeemin: From the start of I-LAND 2 Jiyoon: Eyes, Nose, Lips Performance (Part 1), I Am The Best (Part 2) Koko: IWALY (Part 1), LATATA (Part 2) Sarang: Sugarcoat Performance Saebi: Panorama Performance, Lovesick Girl (Part 2) Mai: Rain On Me (Part 1), I Am The Best (Part 2) Most of the girls have big fanbase from Part 1. Saebi, Mai, Koko, and Jiyoon had average fanbases but boosted it on Part 2. Story line is ALWAYS decide by the producer of the show; so your picks DIDN'T fail, it was just the producers didn't wanted them in the final line up... Even if something does happens that could create a story, it is MANIPULATED if they wanted to, or worst: not even shown (then cut just cut everthing). As always, the members with the least potential but that judges wanted to debut: were put in spots of privilege or put on MADE UP story lines to convince the public they had more to offer. Fuko was bland because they wanted to (1° part they liked her, 2° part they dropped her). And they pick rap for her NOT to 'challenge her', but to put her in a position she would not suddenly be remebered to be great and get votes again, it is impossible to rap in a language you dont know and the judges knew this, I dare any of them to try it

I kinda disagree with the Fuko analysis. She had the storyline of her, Jiyoon, and Gyuri as a trio who went to ground and rose up together. Mnet bad editing took that storyline and focused on Jiyoon but to me they were a major trio. She also got to show off leadership skills and consistent talent. She was my number 1 pick and I think the way they pushed Iz*one songs as a considered concept would have really benefited from Fuko. Ultimately I think the reason she wasn't the producer pick is because they made a choice to not go in the elegant Iz*One/Ive vibe. In regards to comparing her to Jungeun, Jungeun was always a clear choice from the beginning. She started out as the producers favorite until the 2nd half when they had to push a redemption arc between her and Jiyoon and did so by making Jungeun the villain for a little while. She had a main storyline from the beginning and it was always clear to me that she was a secured top 3 spot

Sujung and Mai seemed close the whole show and they became roomates too, but since it's a survival show, it is noticeable how Sujung doesn't want Mai to improve by not helping her att all. They've became rivals in Creative unit as well but Mai won, maybe that's the reason she wanted to to win over Mai. While Saebi-Koko's friendly competition and Jiyoon-Jungeun's rivalry are also noticeable, still they are friends in the end.

Tbh, I dropped Sujung when she kept pushing to be main vocal and had vocalist material when in fact, she lacked so much in that area. I just had a hunch that time that her overconfidence would be her downfall when it came to votes. My hunch was only solidified when talked about Mai in that one episode. Although she may actually be a nice girl in general, doing that during Part 2 didn't help her get enough support for the finale. I get that they're teenagers and still have some immaturity in them (also because Sujung reminds me of someone mean in highschool) and I even had her in my top 6 list before the IWALY test, but she didn't standout to me much after that.
