My family plays double deck (eighty cards, no nines) and I learned the game when I was in my early teens. The play and order of cards is the same as in single deck, bids start at fifty and playing to 500. The hardest part for me was figuring out how to bid and learned that the easiest way was to just get my feet wet and go for it. Of course depending on the patience of my partner this could either be fraught with disaster or - having been blessed with an entire family of experienced players - coaching on what not to do...And I got a lot of coaching. By the time I joined the Navy when I was 18 I was pretty sharp at it. When I discovered my Work Center Supervisor was an avid fan of the game as well he refused to partner with anyone else after a couple of rounds playing against him. It seems Petty Officer Crawford didn't like to lose very often, much less to a snot-nose eighteen year old E-3!

Not really. Pinochle cards are still sold in single decks. @@FunkMeister1901

I just got out of jail and they play the shit out of it in there. I remember seeing 4 dudes slamming cards in the middle fast as hell and the intense bidding. It took me about a month to be able to play independently but its hard to master. Ever since i got out, i have been dying to play with real people instead of just online (playok.com) It made the rest of my 6 month term fly by. Lol I even became snobbish towards the spades playing inmates and refused to play Spades cause it would fuck up my pinochle game on account of the rules about throwing off suit. Im almost at the point of going to retirement homes and "volunteering" cause i heard seniors shoot nochle at a high tech level. I miss playing pinochle, i never even got lucky enough to be dealt 1000 aces. Only a double run but opponents soft set. Thanks for this great video, i enjoyed it, cheers and good luck on your games

I learned pinochle in jail but we played firehouse or cut throat which was where 2 pinochle decks were combined and all the 9's were removed. Then it was 3 people where the lowest bid was 60

I got roped into games as a youngster when my uncle would fall asleep and they needed a replacement.

Agreed, Pinochle is hardcore in the world of card games. I picked it up from my grandfather, and it's not for the faint of heart. Always loved that it's one of the most strategic of card games, and not just an exercise in probability - each hand presents many ways to play it, and there's a certain, scrappy thrill that comes from playing a bad hand well in Pinochle that few other card games can match.

Yes I agree, I love playing the "loser" hands too! My partner is not always happy lol but its memorable when it works out. Thanks for commenting!

Single Deck, 4 player, 4 card pass. KARMAN Pinochle App lets you play either the computer (no internet connection needed) for practice and testing strategies, or play other live players online - either friends that you meet up with, or fellow pinochle players (whoever is in the online room waiting to play). Much fun!

Exactly! 😂 I remember my stepdad& mom playing double deck with my auntie&uncle. Brothers&sisters couples all around. Different nights were brother/sister And other nights husband/wife. It all depended on how the married couple(s) relationship were getting along that week. I was preteen and observant. 😁

My entire family plays pinochle. They have been playing for decades. I’m the only one who doesn’t know how to play. Guess I should learn.

My grandparents on my father’s side and all the other older folks used to play at every family get together and then some. Unfortunately my dad never played and by the time I thought maybe I should learn most of those folks had passed. Recently I started dating a guy who’s family plays all the time so now I’m trying to study up because it looks like I didn’t miss my opportunity to learn after all. 💜
