Already ahead of you with the GWR 4300 James, as that’s the basis of James in my AU. HOWEVER, I do think that him being built in 1912 is fine by me… since we can allow him to have traumatic war flashbacks.

I can understand that, as having him be an engine from World War II could be interesting. But just for my purposes, I like to interpret him more as a hothead newbie. With that being said, I am a firm believer in the idea that an engines age doesn’t determine their maturity, so I’m perfectly fine with the canon version of James

James as a GWR Mogal sounds like a interesting take on James, I don’t mind if he has cylinders or not as long as you get him to look like James. Fantastic job on the art!

Neat! I actually once interpreted James as a Robinson 04 for the longest time, so a GWR 43xx isn't as unusual, also, the gray wheels are a nice touch!
