My Interest in Stoic Philosophy - Philosophical Developments and Commitments

This more personal video discusses my longstanding but of late greater interest in the Stoic school of philosophy. In it I discuss how I encountered Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius in college, which gave me a rather selective view of what Stoicism represented.
Later in graduate school, I came across a copy of Epicetus' Discourses, and found that the Stoic school had much to say about topics I was particularly interested in, such as the interconnection between rationality, emotion, volition, action, and habit. I also encountered the works of Cicero - an eclectic rather than a strictly Stoic philosopher, but from whom we learn much about Stoicism.
I became more interested in Stoicism through my work on anger, and that led me to read my way through the available Stoic texts, fragments, summaries, etc. In the process, I began to incorporate Stoic insights and practices into my own work. Eventually, after getting involved with Stoic Week for several years, I was asked to take over as editor for Stoicism Today.
At present, I don't consider myself a Stoic in a strict or orthodox sense, since there are some points on which I favor other philosophical approaches But, I have a very keep interest in and appreciation of Stoic philosophy, that is likely to last the rest of my life.
