My K24 Turbo S2000 Nightmare Actually Happened

Not the results we wanted at Road America. And by results I mean a fire. Oh well, lots to figure out including engine temps, fire suppression issues, fender shaking, etc. Street cars are NOT race cars, but we're learning with every episode and we hope you continue to stick with us as we learn on clapped car. P.S. Sorry for my language, I was a bit heated in the moment and chose to put it in anyway because I don't want to hide the moments where i'm legitimately frustrated. This track day was a low point for me and I felt you needed to see that.

Was there to do the same thing as you, test and tune for Road America Time Attack later this year. Was in one of the Honda Fits ironically. Blew a clutch spring leaving the event after a hard day. But that's racing and why we test, to work out the bugs. Projects take time and effort. Keep up the good work, man!

If it is a dead engine, I would consider detuning for the Gridlife ClubTR time attack class if the goal of the car is to be a dedicated track car. Personally, I think it is the ultimate class for dedicated track builds as it teaches you a lot as a driver and to build your car to go faster without adding power. Trust yourself most importantly. ASM does great work. Their records and win results speak for it. But ClubTR allows you to progressively build the car the more you find out what it needs to go faster between events. Otherwise, the street classes are cool :)

Glad your OK Alex and the car doesnt look too worse for wear. I have had two engine fires one small, one not so small. This kind of stuff is just part of racing and running the car hard, it sucks but it will get better as long as you keep at it. Yep, get a race suit and carry that extra fire extinguisher. Keep up the good fight!

At least you good man. Better to happen on a shake down rather than when your going 100% could have been a lot worse. It didn't go bang or stop running.. hopefully repair the crispy bits, find what caused it.. nd what happened to the fire system! Can feel the frustration 😖 Come on Rd 2 with clapped car!!! Dude race car time goes by so fast because you get the zoomies!!! After a track day I'm dead depending on which car I take. Biggest and most important thing about a track day is that you learned something. If you don't learn on a track day you waisted your time and money

Same... Pretty ballsy to give it that much power and be on stock brakes. I've gone through 3 different brakes setups on my S2000, and that was before even boosting it. Having lost brakes on track before (different car), I'll take those over power, any day.

had my 280z at Blackhawk farms over the holiday weekend 1st session got 1 lap boiled the brakes, missed session 2, and got 2 laps in session 3 before boiling the brakes again. time flies and its stressful if stuff isn't working right. Been fighting brake issues since. gotta love project cars

As always make sure the safety system is operational before each run maybe next time have a element E100 attached to the cage thats easier to grab before pully the main extinguisher.

That really fucking sucks to happen, but all in all, it is still ways away from worst case scenario. But, it is a Honda. It can be built stronger, better, faster, probably a bit safer too... Glad nothing too serious happened Alex!

Current mods are: Enkei Nt03+M 18x19.5+35mm wheels. 265/35R18 Falken Azenis tires. AWE catback exhaust. 3” Cobb intake. Upgraded recirculation valve and charge pipes. NGK Iridium spark plugs (+1 step colder). Stratified 93 octane tune.

Im not sure if you have a local autocross scene where you live/film. But that is a great venue to shakedown a car at before sending it at triple digit speeds. I get you guys are always on a tight schedule for time to put out videos. It is okay to slow down. Nobody wants to see cars get destroyed on track

This man had to go full send on a boost build for the s2k instead of just rocking the stock motor with simple bolt ons and just getting seat time. Build the driver, then build the car!

I'm so sorry Alex. That is TOTAL BS on the part of those "experts" that charged you up the ass to install the suppression system (and obviously you made the RIGHT choice doing it) and they completely blew it. They owe you big time. There are always a lot of kinks to work out post-op, but something out of your control by seasoned pros that you paid for should NOT be one of them.
