As you say though, these cars are fairly simple and not bad at all to work on, though the service/repair procedure documentation really sucks, lol.

I had the same thermocouple problem on my 07 Gallardo. The problem most Gallardo owners have is with the thermocouple module located above the rear passenger side wheel well. You can easily access it by removing the wheel and wheel well cover. If you have access to the Lamborghini LDAS software you will be able to see the live CAT temperature readings that is coming from the thermocouples. You may just have a connection problem where the thermocouple wires plug into the module. Your best solution may be to just replace the thermocouples and module with the newer style part number: 0R1400030. The newer module is a sealed unit that is not exposed to the elements compared to the original module. Hope this helps.

Preamble: I've added some info here and there as it's come to mind, so this may be out of order. It's only a few paragraphs, though. It's always possible that a sensor had a hiccup for whatever reason. Maybe you may have driven through the rain and one of the connectors isn't quite 100% watertight. Maybe the computer just detected an error somewhere along the bus. This can happen because most modules in modern cars share the same one or two pairs of wires (high and low speed CAN send/receive usually). Or maybe the sensor needs to be screaming hot to fault out. I think you said it happened after Tavarish gave it a spin, so it could be that, too. I suggest you steal Ninja's scan tool and start logging, and go for a really hard drive to get the exhaust nice and hot. These can be annoying issues to track down, but because it's a stored code, it will either go away after a number of engine cycles (40? On Australian GM it's 40 engine cycles (starts and runs)), or until you just clear it. However I believe if it is an emissions code, it may or may not go away. EGT (exhaust gas temperature) will be an emissions code. If you'd have cleared the code it may have sorted it. If it comes back, then you really need that super duper awesome scan tool to come for a drive and start logging things, because that's the only way you're ever going to find the issue, not unless you just throw parts at it and hope it goes away. Also, modern aftermarket scan tools are getting pretty damn good. In addition to OBD and CAN bus, they'll pick up all the weird pre/non-OBD II protocols like ALDL (GM), FlexRay, MOST, Byteflight (all Euro), LIN, etc. I think Bosch have a couple of their own protocols for things like SRS and ABS, but you get the idea. This is why you need a pro level tool to clear airbag codes, because it may be an OBD or CAN code for readability, but the module doesn't actually speak it. At least I think this is how it works. I'm a dum dum so I'm not entirely sure. There's actually quite a few different automotive comms buses, and modern scan tools can deal with most of them. Hope this helps. I'm not a qualified mechanic, just a shadetree guy who can't afford to see a real mechanic, plus I have a mild electronics background, so, I'm always learning, not that I know much at this point.

Stop to pump gas,pop the fuel cap open, and both tank vents are fried dead open ? I would say that you have a small vacuum leak on the fuel cap or something. The temperature probe is a thermocouple , it outputs a small voltage. The tech should measure the voltage with it disconnected from the car. The voltage will be in the millivolt range. "He's letting me use his facilities to do this job..." Yeah, not to mention his expertise, overseeing, hand holding, and wrenching skills also... Then again, you do claim to be the worst mechanic ever, so you're good Tyler ❤

I remember when I heard the V10 engine the first time. It was in 2001 or 2002 when I was working in the R&D area of VW Wolfsburg. At that time Hall 72A was build. While we were working late the Lambo left the hall, went down the ramp straight to the test track. The sound was amazing! Almost 20 years later I still love to work in the automotive industry. You see the cars that will hit the market months before they do :) Sadly there are rumors that Audi wants to get rid of Lamborghini :(

Don't feel too bad Hoovie, I had to do a vent valve on my G8 this summer and it sucked- tucked between the subframe, the body, a rock, and a hard place.
