Good review. Flurry Heart is a smart baby. She tried to problem solve for the cake twins. I guess she has to be since she is starting out as an Alicorn!

The most disappointing thing for me is that the Cake twins show like no development after years.

What are you talking about? They do not use diapers anymore! xD Also, they seemed puzzled by Flurry´s "salomonic solution" to the toy problem, [like if they were expecting her to give a lesson on sharing]; showing wisdom. ... until she give them a big smile and squeak (that they misinterpreted as mischievous); making her "the enemy" for the deeply bonded siblings [who then charged against the cute monster as one, forgetting about their petty fight].

+Argamis (SilverComet) That's a very interesting take on it. And I think it's also important to note that any type of natural growth is a matter of logistics. They're not going to look any different because they're only 1-2 years old.The real growth spurts will come in after around 4-5 years old. After all, the five-year-olds as seen in For Whom the Sweetie Belle Tolls have a very similar stature to that of the newborn/1-month-old foals; just a tad bigger.

The cake twins should be old enough to talk. Flurry is not their age. I bet alicorn babies advance faster and her eyes are like that so that they become "princess eyes" like Celestia, Luna, and her mama later. It's sad; everyone but the tiny twins grow in MLP.

I, for one, really liked the episode. Flurry Heart is starting to grow on me (in spite of her design, which is still kind of unsettling). This season's really cute and comfy.

Since you mentioned it, Flurry is really growing up very fast compared to the other fillys and foals. And I think what sets this Episode apart from the baby cakes episode is, that Twilight learned that she shouldn't force herself to take up too many tasks, especially if you have barely time to care about them all at once. Pinkie mainly learned how important it is to take over responsibility and that its not just fun, but work to care for babys.^^

I agree about the eye consistency thing. I always assumed that the ponies age a a similar rate as humans, but if that were true, then it calls into question the age differences between say Applejack and Applebloom in Equestria Girls. If Applejack is 18, how old is Applebloom? At most 14 if she's a freshman, right? Then why does it seem like the CMC is 10? And why is Flurry seemingly older than the cake twins when she's so clearly YOUNGER than them?

This episode made me realize an actually new flaw developed in Twilight's character. Her massive ego. Sounds strange when looking back at Boast Busters, but think about it. The whole conflict is caused by her thinking she can't fail by virtue of her title as Princess of Friendship, and the self proclaimed Best Aunt ever. It's not just trying to live up to some expectations as was alluded to in Rainbow Rocks. She's going above, and beyond thinking that her important role means she's incapable of failing. We see this earlier in What about Discord when she says that the Princess of friendship can't get jealous. It's nice to see how even after 7 seasons these characters realistically develop in positive, and negative ways. I know we have the whole Moral of the week thing going on in the show since the beginning, but realistically people change in all sorts of ways, it's not just a straight progression of Flawed to Perfect.

The episode was "meh", but the comments on EqD about the ethics of scolding/spanking children was a good source of entertainment for me. If anything it reminds me of the maturity level of viewers the show aims for. My favorite argument was someone suggesting you should never yell at a young child under any circumstance, neglecting to account for those times that child can put itself or others in danger (as shown in the episode). Basically, Twilight wasn't wrong for yelling a Flurry Burry when shit got out of hand.

Personal headcannon: Alicorns are more advanced then other ponies, so Flurry has "older" eyes and thinks more like a toddler then an infant. As to the hospital visit.... there are several diseases that are far easier to deal with when younger then when older, chicken pox included. Back when I was in diapers, it was not uncommon for parents to deliberately expose very young children to such illnesses so they could develop an immunity, particularly when a reliable vaccine was not yet available. After all, better a week of discomfort in a playpen then a hellish week to ten days as a teenager or possibly disastrous consequences as an adult...

Maybe Alicorns mature faster than Unicorns. Pegasi and Earth ponies? I mean we see Flurry having these interactions with other characters and from what I saw, she might be as intelligent as a filly despite still being a foal. So I'm theorizing Flurry's brain is developing at a fast rate while her body is slowly developing, hence why she's still a foal. So... it might be possible that Flurry... Is Equestria's Boss Baby. lol

I thought it was super weird that this month or 2 old baby, who is younger than the cake twins, is intelligent and selfless enough to not only try salving the twin's problems, but also understand anything Twilight is saying to her. I mean, in past episodes she didn't care and just did her own thing. And everyone knows that episodes that should span a year are crunched together in mere months, so she SHOULDN'T be so intelligent. But she's also selfish too. I mean, she always has someone showing her "love" and whatever. Her parents, her people, the royal guard, and Sun Burst. So it would be believable that she was a selfish attention hog. But when Twilight gets mad at her, she flinches like someone who is continuously abused. It's so weird. Babies cry and wail at being yelled at. Not defensive stance at the ready. weird.

What personally got me mad, is that Flurry put people at risk and threw a tantrum, but Twilight was quick to apologize for scolding her for this bad behavior. You don't go back on punishment and tell the child "it's not your fault you did a bad thing". That's Parenting 101.
