Hi Ty. Mike from Kingsport, TN here. I was out riding the "Roadrunner" up here near me. I ride a Gold Wing. The route is all good surface roads, but somehow, my trail route got jacked up on my phone and routed me to a loose gravel road. I figured it was just a "short cut" to another tar road. TEN MILES later I was STILL on loose gravel. I kept thinking that the good road was just around the next corner. Nope. Talk about a major pucker factor. On top of that, I was all alone and never saw another vehicle in those back hill roads of southwestern VA. I didn't even see a kid playing banjo on a porch. I made it without dumping the bike, but the pucker factor was off the charts in that loose gravel with a 1,000 lb. motorcycle. No fun. As for the heat you were riding in, that's miserable as well. My wife and I headed out on a ride and it ended up being 96 degrees with 98% humidity that day. We were out on the road into western NC for over six hours. By the time we got home, I was completely shot out. I always wear full gear, too. That includes an armored riding jacket, riding boots, riding pants with armor, gloves with armor, and a full-face helmet. I think I literally lost four pounds just sweating on that ride. I can handle the heat, but my wife doesn't handle it too well, so we bee-lined it back home once we got to to Hwy 221 near Grandfather Mountain. We headed west to I-26, and then home. GORGEOUS riding out there, but it was just too hot. Ride safe, ride well, and ride often!! Thanks for sharing your ride with us!
@TyFromTennessee6 ай бұрын
Dang man! Ten miles of that and I would be freakin' out a bit for sure! Glad you didn't have to turn around and go back the way you came in..Whew! You've named a few things I really need to check out...the Roadrunner and Grandfather Mtn. I'm putting those on my list. I greatly appreciate your time and thank you for watching!

@@TyFromTennessee I have a list of some 90 rides in the northeastern TN, western NC, and southwestern VA if you're interested. I'm working on adding more information to the database, but I at least have the list and the mileage of each ride. I'm also mapping them all out in my Kurviger navigation app as GPX files to share. It's not a super fast moving process, but I'm gaining on it! LOL

It's interesting you had problems with your GoPros - you're running the 12, right? In 100F heat, I haven't had mine shut off... I wonder if you're recording at 60fps or something that heats the camera up more than me?
@TyFromTennessee6 ай бұрын
On that day I had a 12 and a 10 keep shutting down on me when it really warmed up. I’m shooting 4k 30fps. I really don’t know. Can you ask Pete? He set all my GoPros to the exact same setting so let’s blame him. 😀
@RoadReality6 ай бұрын
@@TyFromTennessee Yeah, if he shows up for my livestream tonight, I'll be sure and ask him! 4k/30fps should NOT overheat a GoPro. MAYBE if you were recording every second of the ride, it might... but even then, I rode in 100F heat, in the sun, for 3 hours a couple years ago with 3 GoPros [8, 9, and Max, I think?] and none of them overheated - and I recorded the whole ride. This past weekend, I rolled with my 10 and 12 all weekend, and had nary a problem. I only recorded the Back of the Dragon and The Snake fully, though.

Nope, I don't do gravel roads. Forget all THAT nonsense! You've seen my vids from a few years ago... I ended up stopping on one, facing downhill, not happy. Funny side story: I had a friend who took us down a steeply-crowned, mostly-paved road. At the time, I had < 1k miles on my Vaquero... that sucked. The outer half of the road was gravel, and the slope was similar to the roof of a house! To this day, I remember the name of the road, and refuse to get on anything with that name.
