This calmed a lot of my nerves about my upcoming MALS surgery. I’ve had SMAS surgery already and other people said that the MALS surgery is was worse. Seeing how quick you recovered and that nausea was the worst part made me feel way better. Thank you for this!

I just had open MALS surgery 1/18/23! I’m feeling fantastic! Only downfall is having a hard time walking a lot and talking a lot because it’s hard to breath at times. My surgeon shaved my diaphragm. Did you have that done as well?

Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that FREAKS me OUT!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

Haha no problem! I've had several procedures before, and this is how it usually goes. You will meet the anesthesiologist (the guy in charge of keeping you asleep) probably 10-20 minutes before they take you back into the operating room. He'll talk with you, ask you questions, they're usually pretty fun people, they're pretty much trying to get you comfortable with them. They'll answer all your questions about the procedure then too. When they take you back, he'll usually put some sort of an oxygen mask type thing on. In the past, (when i was younger) they'd ask me to count to ten with it on, or sing mary had a little lamb, and as you counted / sang you'd inhale enough and fall asleep. But once again, that was when I was younger. This time, the guy put the mask on me, told me "right now I'm just giving you oxygen" then he muttered something and BOOM next thing I know I'm in the recovery room with my mom. No warning, or nursery rhyme this time haha. There is no way I could have stayed awake if I wanted to. I'm usually so stressed/curious about whats going on that I try to stay awake. But nope, not gonna happen. When I was younger I remember fading into sleep, this time I went out like a light. It's pretty nice that way actually. I'm glad you found my video helpful! the doctors put anesthetics through your iv in your vein. you dont really feel it, maybe a bit of warmth. then you get an oxygen cap on your mouth, to calm you down and give you plenty of oxygen. you feel slightly sleepy and within about 10 seconds you are asleep. for me it felt like a matter of seconds before i woke up. You wont be able to stay awake, and if you feel nervous, just mention it to your doctors. they can talk you through everything and they will help you keep calm. they let you count down from 10 to 0, but you usually dont make it to 0, because it is that fast.

Did you ever experience your stomach not being able to growl properly? Or felt like there was an air bubble inside you? Just asking to see if I should tell my doctor to consider MALS

I may have this condition, considering that I have a lot of matching symptoms, and Gastroparesis. I’m going to have a surgeon I’ve had do three operations review my CT from 1/23, and an MRI that was done last year on my lumbar spine and cervical for a different reason. If I do have MALs, I would have the surgery. I’m also going to talk to my primary care physician about genetic testing for autoimmune conditions, as the blood tests have come up negative, yet I have a lot of symptoms and indications of an autoimmune process.

Thank u for posting All of those videos!! So nice to see how this work and what I can expect!! I just got dignosed with MALS and I am having surgery soon!! I have to go to the hospital ever 2 to 4 days ( for now 2 months) cuz I just have a looot of pain!! They actually sow I got MALS just by inhaling! Love from Iceland 🇮🇸!

Your AA/SMA angle caused nor problem to the left renal vein or duodenum? It looks pretty acute angulation of AA/SMA. ??
