This issue is one of the most common and is due to the gear selector (big metal bit) housing being made of brass which over time gets corrosion because of the unfortunate positioning of the gear selector being at the front, it happens to the mk6 fiesta and the mk7 pre facelift, ford eventually learned with the later 5 speed gearboxes and it hasn't been an issue at all with their 6 speeds

So this worked perfectly for my car. My car felt really clunky and stiff as it would shift into gears. It also would feel misaligned when shifting like you were guided in between gears and come to a hard stop until you tried again and moved slightly over. I was able to do the job with leaving the box on the car and just take the service cover off. My cover either was a redesign or had already been trimmed to come off without removing the cable. Cleaned all the posts and swivel block greased the crap out of everything and it is literally shifting like new smooth shifts pefect transition from gear to gear. guided straight in were it should be. Took less then half an hour . Thanks again !!

@@GunsNBudder I think I have the same issue with my manual transmission. I have the focus. What's the common name for the parts/mechanism that you popped off, cleaned and popped back on?
@GunsNBudder4 жыл бұрын
@@JayJay0470 I would call it a shift linkage.
@GunsNBudder4 жыл бұрын
@@JayJay0470 I would also not be surprised if the parts on your focus are the exact same parts found on the fiesta. Car manufactures try to keep things simple and cheap, especially on low end econ cars. I doubt the two cars use different transmissions and certainly not that they use different plastic pivot points on the ends of their shift linkage bars.

Hi man for my fiesta 5 speed. My issue is when I accelerate and change the gear or even coming out of first to second gear. The gear is basically stuck for a bit then it starts to release after the engine rev goes down

Hi, great video, really helpful as there are so many fiesta owners out there struggling with this problem. How long did the fix roughly take you? And what tools did you use to take the box off
@GunsNBudder4 жыл бұрын
I think I used a cheap box cutter (razor) to cut through the inlet on the plastic, so I wouldn't have to disconnect that hose-thing. Tools used were: 1. that little pry bar 2. screwdriver set 3. a drill with a 20 gauge shotgun cleaning brush in it, for scrubbing out the rust from the inside of the hole 4. a strip of sand paper to scrub the rust off the post coming out of the transmission 5. a little high-temp grease. I spent, probably, an hour jacking up the car and analyzing what was actually going on. After I realized what the deal was, it took me about another 45 minutes to finish it up. If anyone on youtube had a video like this for me to see first, I probably could've had it completed in 15-20 minutes.

thanks for the tutorial, do you think dielectric grease would work for this job? i'm going to do this in the next couple of weeks.
@GunsNBudder4 жыл бұрын
Something's better than nothing? I would just use normal axle grease, but if dielectric is what you have then go for it.

Have you had the electric steering fail?
@GunsNBudder3 жыл бұрын
No, but usually when power steering fails it isn't electrical, but hydraulic. And it makes a pretty big mess when it does, so there should be lots of oily mess somewhere. Open the hood and look for the power steering reservoir (make sure it has power steering fluid in it,) then follow the hoses until you find the leak. Other failure points are the power steering pump (runs off the main belt,) and the power steering rack (goes side to side connecting the wheels). First, just make sure the car has some power steering fluid in the reservoir.
@MyLifeThai3713 жыл бұрын
@@GunsNBudder I thought in 2010 Ford got rid of hydraulic power steering on many of their cars and went to an electric steering rack that fails instead. That's what many of the lawsuits have been over.
@GunsNBudder3 жыл бұрын
@@MyLifeThai371 hmm, I didn't know that. I just looked it up though and apparently you're right! I never had a problem with mine. There are videos on KZbin describing a common problem though.

I have the same problem with mine . It starts off easy to shift the 10 miles down the road its really hard to shift. My question is is that what yours acted like ? Or was it just hard to shift all the time ? Thanks
@GunsNBudder2 жыл бұрын
That's NOT how mine behaved, but that is still where I would look first. Even if you just took the inspection cover off and soaked that shaft in WD40/etc, just to see if it gave any effect, you'd be onto something.
@jasonstopher13812 жыл бұрын
@@GunsNBudder that's exactly what was wrong with mine. Took it apart got a small wire brush on my drill cleaned out the shift lever and took sand paper to the shaft greased it up put it back together and been shifting like a new one for a week now. Thank you

@jasonstopher1381 I have the same issue. It starts off great when you start driving but then gets really hard to shift later. I thought it was due to temperature and gearbox oil behaving differently. But changing oil didn't fix it. But I will check this out.
