Fun arthouse comedy. Fiennes is a great dramatic actor, but he's shines in comedy.

Agreed. This is an incredible cast, top to bottom, but it wouldn't work the same way without him.

This movie is one of best examples of untrustworthy narration. The story takes place in the girls mind from a book she is reading about the writers memories of the time he heard a story from another person talking about his younger days. Is that why everything is in bright colors and pastels? Who knows. It could be 100% accurate or it could all be fantasy, leaving us at the top of the chain to consider it all. Truly a fantastic film by that alone.

And you get details like Agatha's birthmark literally being in the exact shape of Mexico lol or Gustav giving his speech from prison with all the guards, prisoners, and a GB podium

Willem Dafoe being the most menacing character he has ever played while barely had any line in the whole movie.

I was not expecting the line "What's with the Titty dancy while he's talking?" From Jen, I'm so glad I literally just swallowed my coffee lol.

I love how wholesome this film can be, only to be punctuated with moments of left-field vulgarity that makes the scene even more hilarious. Wes Anderson is so damn funny 😂

Also where they show the fingerprint cards one of them had only 1 finger because Jeff Goldblum character gets them cut off when Willem Dafoe slams that door shut

I love Wes Anderson. His humour and aesthetics just hit perfectly for me. The Fantastic Mr Fox is my favourite of his movies. The Grand Budapest Hotel is probably his most accessible movie; dialling back the insanity a bit, for a bit more straightforward story. It works really well. 🙂

A little tidbit you may find entertaining...the Society of Crossed Keys is quite real, existing to this day, a loose association of hospitality managers who assist one another, typically with regard to meeting the needs of guests on short notice. The reality is perhaps less dramatic than depicted here...but it was a lovely tribute to them that Anderson nodded their way with respect for their craft. The real title of the group is The Society of Golden Keys (formed too late for the events depicted here, but preceded by earlier examples that date back further but weren't quite so formal.)

One of my favourite movies even if I can never decide if it is the saddest comedy film or the funniest sad film I've ever seen. The last lines especially and the transition from the writer in the 60s to his older self in the 80s to the girl reading on the bench is really beautiful.

I recommend Moonrise Kingdom, if you're looking to react to more Wes Anderson. It's probably my favorite of his.

Hmm...my favorite Wes Anderson is still The Life Aquatic...but my guess is that Mom will not like that one as much, seeing how much it features ol' Bill. 😁

Excellent choice and such a stunningly beautiful film as Wes's always are. It has such a great ensemble cast which puts me in mind of one of my faves, I HEART HUCKABEES (2004) Dustin Hoffman, Jude Law, Naomi Watts and Lily Tomlin among others - if either of you haven't seen it, you will dig the quirky humour that's present in this one. And yes, Tom Wilkinson, total legend. One of the later roles I loved him in was MICHAEL CLAYTON (2007) with George Clooney and Tilda Swinton - a great thriller. You two are a joy to watch - how great to be able to share such great films with each other 🥰🥰🥰

Wes Anderson movies do what a movie should do, take you outta this reality, and submerse you into another reality, plus the dialogue, script, acting, editing cinematographer all blend together. This movie MOONRISE KINGDOM AND, IASLE OF DOGS, are Anderson at his peak, up until now, lol! Brilliant.

you could do a lot worse for a pick-me-up movie. I used to rely on 'Big Boob Bonanza', but age brought moderation. btw - Saoirse is pronounced as 'Sor-shuh', not Circe. And seriously, what's the sense in owning a cat if you're not going to test it at least 8 times?

The way I remember it is through a way she said herself in an interview. Saoirse like "inertia." I always say the full thing when I say her name lol
