That was honestly one of the best overtakes I’ve ever seen. Small contact, but that’s racing!

@@xtlm I thought driving on the inside of the previous corner, Newgarden style, was the more common occurrence. You sacrifice the racing line, but if you get ahead you have the better exit line out of the last corner.

Having done 1,000's of laps here, that outside move was super impressive and shows your brainpower. Most like to maintain that inside line as the little bit of camber at 15/16 (15 to me...16 to you) gives a ton of grip but with your downforce the outside worked. Glad to see you moving towards the front in Indy. Keep it up!

Romain, you need to explain the difference between a 2 or 3 pit strategy. Do they have to stop 3 times? Were you only allowed to stop twice?
@ianperry9598
@ianperry9598 Жыл бұрын
In Indy, you can stop as many times as needed. The only rule is that you must use both tire compounds ( soft + hard ) at least once during the race. A 2 stop will guarantee enough fuel to finish the race. A 3 stop could be more of a gamble as you could have fresher tires than those on a 2 stop
@Bolt_theG35
@Bolt_theG35 Жыл бұрын
What he said ^^^ and the idea of a two stop is to get out so far ahead a three stop won’t be able to catch you but it’s a gamble because a two stop has to conserve fuel more while a three stop doesn’t need to conserve at all. That’s why that caution hurt the two stoppers and ultimately gave McLaughlin the advantage. Roman didn’t have the fuel to push hard at the end while McLaughlin did.
@SALEENS7GTR5
@SALEENS7GTR5 Жыл бұрын
The 3 stop plays into a more volatile start and gamble for minimal yellows to be on the fastest tires at the last segment of the race to catch the fuel and tire and saving 2-stop racers. This race had 1 yellow. Penseke was 1 and 3. Romain almost made the 2 stop work because he was leading and driving well, but of course his tires were shot by the final stages, whereas McLaughlin had fresher rubber and more fuel, so he could push more.
@ninetailedfox579121
@ninetailedfox579121 Жыл бұрын
There is no "have to" about it. Pit strategies are made by the team and they aren't required to do anything besides change tire compounds at least once.

Loved the move. That was awesome! Didn’t love you blowing the breaking into turn (1 or 2) that let Scott by. It may have not mattered anyway since you were on fuel saving and out of P2P. He probably would have got by anyway. You need to stop this BS fuel saving strategy. It doesn’t work!
