Roy, you have indeed captured the real feel of this subdivision! You're quite the model artist! And like the real-world subdivision, your N scale version keeps busy with train manifests running down its tracks - a sure sign that a national rail strike has been averted for now. Enjoy the layout, my friend. I certainly do everytime you showcase it here on KZbin. -from Tom Pilling

Even as a long time subscriber, I learned a few things about your layout today. You should be proud, not only of the layout, but of the videos you create. Any one can point and shoot, but weaving a narrative and make a cohesive, coherent video is difficult. Well done Roy! [5:25 I think there might be a small bump in the track work in the approach to the bridge. The engine and some of the rolling stock hops there. Perhaps a bit of judicious file work can smooth it out. Just something my eye caught, and nothing to get too fussed over.]
@n-scaleunionpacificevansto65692 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment, my friend. It's always a delight to hear from you and to share the ongoing progress on my layout with you. You are right about the small bump for 844 just before the bridge. This occurs for 844 because there's a turnout right before the bridge, which isn't visible because of the camera angle, and 844 is very sensitive to turnouts. I will see what I can do about it, because I want all of my locomotive to run very smoothly. ...Roy
@WhatAboutTheBee2 жыл бұрын
@@n-scaleunionpacificevansto6569 Ah, a turnout. Set your playback speed to 0.25, jump to 5:28 and watch closely. The front bogie, wheel furthest from the camera appears to dip, then bounce up. There is a very good chance the back to back on that axle is too small. The wheel there looks like it is dropping into the frog flangeway, as the tread does not span the gap right in front of the frog rails. When it does that, the wheel then rides on the flange in the flangeway at the frog, and then it jumps up and onto the rails when it meets them. NMRA says the Back to Back for N is 7.65 mm. Check with a caliper. Plenty of info on how to set it right online. I am fascinated with the system of turnout geometry. Such a clever system, the subject of early patents

Welcome back Roy, Your looking great. And you have been missed. I keep you and your wife in my prayers. Hope you have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS 🌲 and a RAILY HAPPY NEW YEAR🚂. Briefly for myself & the family all are healthy and ?Happy?. Number 1 Grandson was promoted to GUNNERY SARGEANT in the MARINES. Semper Fi. At a Halloween party I met a lovely lady from my distant youth. Her name is Colleen. Though I still painfully miss my gorgeous wife, I hope she won't mind my finding someone new. After the first of the year we will travel the updated Orient Express from Istanbul to Paris. (A stop over at Disneyland Paris to ride Le'Disney Express) Then the Chunnel train to London. Finally take the ferry to Ireland. As for the NVR/WAS Railroad, the kids (& grandkids) have successfully burst through the adjoining wall so the train room has slightly more than doubled in size. From 30'D x 28'L to 30'D x 64'L. There remains A LOT of destruction clean up to be dealt with in 2023. Followed by the extension rebuild. To edify the family and friends, this Christmas' Holiday Layout will be a few loops and dog bones in the teens' soon to be game room, climb the MOST DIFFICULT Helix I ever designed and built in 30 years, to a sofett layout in the adults bar room& back. Just finished it Friday. When we get back to N.Y., after St. Patrick's Day🍀, the Gandy Dancers will get back to work on the line that was NEVER/WAS. Truly love seeing and hearing from you. Jim in N.Y.

Roy, I forgot to mention that if you use the code word “human” that you can get 10% off on anything that you buy. They are a sponsor for Heath at Human(c)ity Junction…..John

@@tanzj John, thanks again for suggesting the WiFiTrax. I've been reading about them on the Internet and am definitely going to order one. One small and perhaps trivial question: Did you get the -30 or the -31 version? ...Roy

Super video Roy. My Kato FEF-3 (844) derails all the time. Any guidance would be appreciated. Also I'm thinking of moving from Canada to Costa Rica, any advice, concerning model railroading? Cheers.
@n-scaleunionpacificevansto65692 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Lloyd. I appreciate your comment. I haven't experienced any persistent derailment problems with my 844; however, those little wheels can be a little finicky when trying to put them on the track to begin with. I guess the only intelligent advice I can offer about Costa Rica is: Come down and visit for a few weeks before deciding to make a permanent move. Have you been in contact with any of the model railroaders in Costa Rica?: facebook.com/groups/FerromodelistasCR ...Roy

Thanks Roy, I didn't even know there was a group on FB. I'll brush up on my non-existent Spanish and try it out.

Thanks, Lee. I appreciate your comment. I haven't had any persistent problems with my Kato Unitrack, so it's a little hard to speculate. ...Roy

Roy, how is the N scale in Panama? Are there any local hobby stores or do you have everything by mail?
@n-scaleunionpacificevansto65692 жыл бұрын
Well, Tim, as far as I know, there is no model railroading here in Panama outside of my train room. I seem to be the only model railroader in the whole country. There are no train stores, shows, or clubs here, and indeed, everything on my layout has to come in the mail. But I make up for it whenever I travel to the States. ...Roy

I was thinking that was the case. I have been to Panama many times and was considering retirement there. As usual things in life change. I enjoyed my time exploring the Chiriquí Highlands in my younger days. I think it's fantastic you have a great retirement place and room to build your layout. Honestly I buy 75% of my train stuff by mail. The test is from club members, shows and some retail.

On my N-Scale layout, I have a reversing loop of which loops around through a mine and back out again. At the beginning of this loop I have a right hand switch. The entrance to this loop from the mainline enters from the fixed end. Here is the problem. If I decide to take the right spur to go around the mine then there is no problem. All my engines do just fine with no problems. If I take the left-hand (straight ahead), portion of the switch to go to the mine and if I am running an engine of which has three-axled trucks (such as an EMD), on it there are no problems either. - But. - If I am running my two axle trucked GP-40 then going right (onto the spur), is no problem either. But, if I decide to take the left-hand (straight ahead), and go left into the mine then it immediately jumps the track and derails as it goes over the frog split (the plastic “X” part of the switch). Of all the switches upon my layout, this is the only switch I seem to have trouble with, and only with that GP-40. Short of replacing the whole switch, does anybody know why this happens and why only on that one particular locomotive engine. Or can they even give me a clue as to why this happens and how to cure it? - Just asking.
