I had a major setback in 2018, the year when I started my natural hair journey, though I'm natural since 2000. Because I wanted to grow my hair faster, I left the rice water in my hair, and braided it with extensions. My hair started to break badly, especially at the right side of my hair and my hair was already thinned out over the years. My hair is fortunately recovering from it since 2019, and my hair has become sooo dense and thick and longer. Because I use my own DIY's, I also see a lot of new hairs coming out of my scalp. I like it. Of course, my hair isn't even, just like yours, but I'm letting it grow and leave it alone, until I have the desired length, to cut it even 😊

I can relate to doing a dyi and getting small parts stuck in my hair! That happened with my hair with a banana 🤦🏿‍♀️! You live and learn lol

My biggest setback is postpartum shedding, jizzz that thin delt with my edges and entire head Well good to hear someone else’s setback, so I don’t feel like it’s just me 😊

Postpartum shedding took my edges away as well, but they came back.

I've had two setbacks in the past 2 years. I had to big chop because my thyroid disease had attacked my hair. As my hair grew in I was handling it too roughly and lost many strands from over combing and brushing. Finally I learned about low manipulation and leaving your hair alone. Now my hair is growing back in length and thickness.

I love your hair style!!! My biggest set backs were, getting any type of relaxer, trying heat back in my teens(no heat protection...ugh), and trying to comb from scalp(yes scalp..lol) to ends. Thank GOD it didn't do too much damage. Also a big mistake was an aloe hair mask. So much chunks of aloe was in my hair. I just took out some and left the rest. I was seeing aloe chunks for about 3 weeks to a month after. But when you did a hair mask/ treatment and ripped some out..I felt that!!!!

I've learned that using Ayurvedic powder. Adding the water or any warm liquid little by little and letting it sit a bit before stirring works bests. Plus taking that extra time to stir and making sure its nice and smooth this way no lumps are left in my hair. I noticed recently even after exclusively finger detangling when i go in with a widetooth comb my hair gets snagged. Even using a tail comb for smoothing out the ends of my hair as I'm twists it snags on damp hair. So i realized those tools aren't working for me anymore. My Evolve detagling brush works great on my damp and stretched hair after exclusively finger detangling so im sticking to that. I have a mixture of fine medium strands as well so i have to be more gentle in certain areas. As each year goes by i learned what i had to change in my routine. Toward the end of 2019 i decided to stop doing my twists to small and leaving them in to long. 2 weeks is the longest i can wear my hair in semi-mini twists about an 1" in width all around with flat twists in the front. I'll occasionally wear my hair out in a curlformer set to keep my hair stretched.

I colored my hair last October and my length is the same 14 inches. I have split ends probably from the color and i keep trimming but it just keep splitting . Does anyone know the best action to keep ends from splitting. I only wear my hair in mini twist or buns since I'm in the military so its protected.

I just had a set back recently. I decided to try out African threading as a protective style. I had those done when I was a little girl and it helped my hair grow so I figured I would give it a try now I am learning to do my hair on my own as an adult. I tried to take them down a few weeks ago but didn't have scissors. I used a knife instead and while trying to cut the thread, I cut my hair off instead. I was so mad at myself but I know it's hair and it will grow back. I guess I know to not use a knife on my hair or pay very close attention so I don't cut too deep and cut off my hair.

@@deborahnnaji1662 Hey Debbie.. no need to be sorry. Glad I was able to provide some comic relief. I certainly learned from my experience, I have to buy a scissors since i will be doing my hair myself for now or until quarantine is over and the braiding shops reopen.
