Jeff, I received my Swordtail a few days ago. I was a little confused when I opened the box, because I thought I was buying a neck knife, mine is not. Overall I'm ok with the purchase. The knife is a lot more ergonomic than it looks, so that part is great. I'm happy with the blade itself, which is the most important thing. The sheath on the other hand is barely usable. The generic clip can only be mounted in one spot for vertical carry only, none of the other holes are spaced correctly. It did not come with the neck chain. The scales are removable, however they are required for sheath retention, this seems silly since it's common for "Neck Knives" not to have scales. I was also under the impression, the sheath that would ship with the knife, was going to be smaller and more form fitting than the prototypes you showed. Mine is exactly like the one you have it seems, which I guess is ok if it had a chain. It's a bit disappointing because I really like the knife. Mine was shipped in a really nice magnetic closure box, I would rather that cost be put into a nice sheath with a chain! Again you did a great job on the knife! It really sucks a great design was diminished by a shitty sheath. Just like a bad clip on a folder, a bad sheath will stop me from carrying a knife I otherwise really like. Sorry to be bitching about this, I'm just a little disappointed. Thanks for all of the content!

I’ve tried carrying a neck knife in the past, but there are a couple of reasons I don’t still. First was that the weight of the knife bothered me and almost a sore neck. Secondly I didn’t like it rubbing against me all the time. Last I already wear a necklace and I didn’t like having a second string or other necklace around my neck. You have an awesome collection though and I love the video!
@mikeboyce214 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old video but just thought this is worth mentioning. I edc the tops Alligator alley as my neck knife. It is great if you want a super tough multi functional neck knife. It doubles as a bottle opener, pot lifter, gigging spear head, wire stripper, wire/fence snapper, prybar, large flathead screwdriver, scraper and ok can opener in a pinch. And perhaps more things i haven't thought of yet.

I don't have nearly as many neck knives as you but I do have a few. My current favorite is my BK14 aka 'Eskabar'. I like that, although not a long blade, it has a nice, thick, stout blade that can be used for doing heavier knife tasks if needed. My second favorite (maybe a strange choice) is my Gerber Bear Grylls paracord knife (I think I saw one in your group shot at the beginning.) Again, a bit stouter blade than many neck knives. Most of the Gerber BG stuff holds no interest for me but the paracord knife is pretty good. I sanded the bright orange off of the BG on the sheath, swapped the bright orange paracord for a darker (more like flat dark earth) color, made a kydex ferro rod holder to attach to it and have a small keychain flashlight attached to the sheath with a ranger band. Makes for a really good camping/hiking neck knife setup. I reprofiled the edge to convex, keep it razor blade sharp and have even used it to baton through reasonably sized pieces of wood to make kindling. I also like the Cold Steel mini-tac line (have the skinner which has a blade reminiscent of a sharpfinger) and the Beavertail (kind of a leaf shaped blade.) I have a CRKT minimalist Bowie and like it but it is a little small for my tastes. I also have a CRKT S.P.E.W. - my only Warncliff type blade. I like it and figure it would be good for defensive use but as an EDC type knife the tip is just a bit too fine and fragile.

Hi I’m disabled and have neuropathy that is the loss of feelings in you hands and feet. I have a very severe case among other back problems. I’m a long time knife collector and have at one time have had $50,000 worth of knives but that was before my injuries now I’m only buying knives to carry and use. I only carry neck knives or knives that I converted to carry around the neck. My disability forces me to spend my life sitting down so neck knives are my perfect choice I’ve even carried folders in a custom leather sheath I converted to neck carry. My pockets are useless to me so most things I carry either go around my neck or in my front pocket. I did just order the Rockstead Chou in Ironwood handles I will get it tomorrow can’t wait.

I have a few small knives the last ones I built but one of them just came in today it's the Masalong it looks like a scalpel and really the sheath is too big for a neck knife with the knife itself has a ring around it like a karambit and it has handle scales a very well-made seat it's chinese-made but it's one of those quality-wise for the money I thought you'd ever I need to put a little edge on and see how good it holds it takes but it's more for defense I believe so it doesn't have to keep it as just take one. I really like those Cold Steel Spike series Bell like the original when's the small ones they were poured rap like the Scottish back and all those Spike movies or whatever I had some and I had to sell my collection or a lot of my collection and those cheap knives went with it but now those little originals Fox are going for $80 on eBay and they used to go for like $23 brand new anyway pretty cool knives!

My first neck knife I bought was $10 MTech . I bought it 16 years ago. Mtech gets a bad wrap but many fixed blades from them are very useful. Maybe not the best steel but they sharpen very easy they are tough. My other favorite from MTech is the 151 I paid $25 I’ve split hard wood and it’s a great knife. My absolute favorite neck knife is Utica utkn2 . It’s like $40 and it’s like a izula 2 that has better grind sheath and G10. The crkt I’m not a fan of. Junk steel the MTech is better. I also like the La duck. Everyone I know loves it.

I don't carry a knife around my neck. I have a golf cart I ride around a lot, and move heavy objects a lot, and the last thing I need while doing that is something around my neck to get snagged on something. I also don't really need one. I can reach into my pocket and pull out a specific knife out of four or five or sometimes more objects that I keep in my pocket in a fraction of a second nine times out of ten, and the other time it takes a second or two. It's really not a problem. I've carried a lot of stuff in my pockets for more or less my entire life. It's not a problem. Edit: typo

There are four main reasons I don't carry neck knives (I have a few though). The first is I'm not a fan of having stuff around my neck. It's just not comfortable. Second I like to not have to reach under my shirt for access to my knife. Third reason is that anything I have in my neck must be breakaway, because of jobs I've done. And the final and biggest reason is I carry a magnet on a lanyard for my daughter's VNS.
