Welcome to KY. I have family there. Be safe while preparing your CA home for sale. Consider this before painting your thread chest. In its original color and design it ties you to crafters from long ago. I personally like mixing a small bit of the old with the new. Your craft room is lovely. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be something that makes you happy. That's the most important thing.
@TheCraftyOrganizer5 сағат бұрын
That’s a really good point! I'm now leaning towards leaving the chest original. Thanks so much!

So good to see you Norrine, and you are so missed I’m sure by all your subscribers!! I love your new craft room! The thread box is absolutely to die for, and I don’t know why, as soon as I saw it, I said to myself “OMG-where did she ever find that thread box?” I have absolutely no idea why I knew what it was!! If it were mine, I wouldn’t touch it! I’m sure it has a lot of history behind it! Good luck with the CA house and I hope you are back to regular videos soon!❤

How good to see you again! What great spaces & room for all of your creative equipment & supplies! I suggest not painting the thread drawers or what holds them. 🤔 I believe that some items, like the China cabinet, beg for a makeover. But this item is so unique & also gives the eyes a break from the other colors in the room....understand why you love it❤ Until later!😊

Over the years, I acquired various styles of (mostly) IKEA shelving units in different colors depending on the room where they were used (bedrooms, storeroom, etc.). Now they are all in the same room, so it is quite a hodge-podge. I regret that I recently bought Kallax cubbies because I think it is easier to organize on bookcase shelves. Your room looks so beautifully coordinated! That is my goal, but I am a long way from it. Enjoy it!
@TheCraftyOrganizer5 сағат бұрын
It is a lot of work to get it all coordinated - and I'm still working on it! One can of paint can do it all! LOL
@battygirlrachel4 сағат бұрын
there are companies that sell things for the Kallax cubes... Stamp and Storage is one... they are a bit expensive, but being able to make the most of the space is priceless. they have one piece that can divide a cube into several small shallow drawers. I've bought several pieces from their sister company, Best Craft Organizer, and while expensive, they made a HUGE difference in being able to access my stuff.

Great video! It's great to see the progression of your spaces over the years. Great ideas! Just a note of caution to help your viewers: Bookshelves. Even if you had wanted to keep them, you probably would not have been able to do so. When my friend moved, her moving company refused to ship any of her flat pack bookshelves. That type of bookshelf is notorious for coming loose at the fasteners and/or breaking apart during moves. She even had a couple of hers fall apart just taking them outside. The ones that survived were all taken to Goodwill for donation. She knew that she would purchase new ones that would fit her new home later. One of them that was in better shape was dismantled and given to me just before she moved. It's risky and it's rarely cost effective to save any flat pack furniture if using professional movers. Only personal moves, over short distances, with great care to protect from breakage, would keeping them be appropriate IMHO. Otherwise, the extra weight and space that you would be paying for would often be wasted when they arrive broken at your destination.

My two cents about the furniture that you are debating about painting: Take a really good look at it. What kind of wood? Is the wood different in the drawers? How are the drawers made? How old is it? Can you find any paper, painted, stamped, or branded labeling or maker's marks? Also, how big is it? Does it appear to still have original patina and wear marks from the intended retail use? If there's any chance that it is a collector's item or an antique, then use it gently without any changes. If it appears to be an inexpensively made reproduction with low value, then paint to your heart's content.

you might want to check on resale price of the reproduction thread box... if its a good quality reproduction, it could be as valuable as a real one. it would be heartbreaking to find out after painting it that it had value. If it does have value, maybe you could cover the bits you want changed with contact paper? I have several watch maker drawers that, if it weren't for how much I paid for them, I would sorely be tempted to paint... so I understand what you are going through lol.

As the thread cupboard is not an original, I wouldn't be concerned about painting it. If it were a true antique, keeping that look to it would be important to me. I would leave the drawer labels on it, though, as it is what makes it unique. If you want to keep the vintage look, show us how to fix that original wood look! 👍 I have some old end tables and coffee table that are maple stained. I'm scared to touch them... I don't want them to look worse, but they were my parents' and I, my siblings, kids, and nieces and nephews were hard on them. Good luck on prepping your house to sell! 🤗 While it might be tempting to do some extra cute touches, the next owner is likely to pull that out. Stick to fixing and painting! 😉 That's not in your nature, but it is where your time and money are best spent. At this point, people in the LA area are happy to have a roof over their head. I'm glad it missed your place, and you didn't have to be there through it...
