I can't get over how professional your videos have become. You've done away with that irritating background music and gone straight in with close ups of the work being done. Detailed filming showing your work, good points, mistakes, things to look out for. These videos are good ... VERY good!

Before you pull the head off I would check the water jacket parts of the inlet manifold, I used to be a technician @ Ford in the late eighties/early nineties and had quite a few vehicles where the antifreeze had solidified from having too strong a mix and blocked the chambers to the cylinder head from the inlet manifold causing the same sort of fault.

its never just that, if that had enough gunk in it to be blocked there is plenty of crap in the rest of the system. it needs a full clean/flush. Use somthing like holts rad flush. The cooling section of the turbo will be partially blocked, you dont want to kill the turbo next.

The cutting out issue…..I heard of similar on I believe a Sierra XR4i. Someone had plugged a relay intended for heated rear window into the fuel pump relay position. Hence after so many minutes the car would cut out as the relay timed out. Worth a check if not done already. Thanks for the videos 👍👍

Adam love the videos interesting informative and definitely fun - reading through the comments posted “try this-do that” stick to the way your doing it with the fault finding, you’ll feel a lot better in your self knowing you’ve done it and solved it yourself… bonus you’ll get to know your baby even more so - you’ll crack it 🔧👍

For the cutting out issue. Open the fuse box and feel for hot relays, most likely fuel pump and then check fuel pump for issues/blockages. Keep up the great work!

Fuel pump relays on Fords were a problem, looking fine, but opening it up you could see the broken trace and burnt board, having said that I'll bet almost every electrical connection will be corroded to some extent, electrical contact cleaner and checking for broken wires,

Hello Adam From what you describe as the car driving for a very short time ie 5mins and simply cutring out i had the exact same problem on an Escort Cosworth i used to own. I was diagnosed as the Crank Postion Sensor and this was replaced to which the problem was immediately rectified .. the air intake sensor was also replaced as well as a minor precaution. Hope you get it sorted soon and resolve the issue 👍

I had a escort estate mk3 years ago and it would run for a few minutes and cut out and eventually found out that the crankcase breather pipe was blocked and after cleaning it out it solved the issue and ran fine so maybe have a look at yours Adam, I know it's a longshot but worth a look.

Awesome work Adam, late to the party but was saying to the TV check the turbo lines as they suffer the worst metal electrolysis corrosion ever, first time I saw it in person was my 97 Z32 300zx twin turbo engine rebuilding it. However I dig your passion and feel for it, I am reliving my cosworth/max power days vicariously through your videos. Cheers Mate.

the weak link on escorts of that era were the fuse- boxes, the printed circuit used to burn out around the fuses + relays. i replaced loads in the day, but i wasn't a RS dealer, so didn't do any cossys

that's mad how you worked back like that..good detective work! I'm 42 and never done more than change a tyre but i feel getting a car to fix now haha! I've learnt that there should usually be fluids, so try air!
@darrenrevill8664 Жыл бұрын
Nice job there. Good to see your doing your homework and not just throwing parts at it. Try a different furl pump relay. My mate had a Sierra with a similar problem. Ended up being that the relay had gone before and he grabbed a spare knocking about. This ended up being a timed heated window relay !
@stevo5222 Жыл бұрын
I'd change the crank sensor as already mentioned, not that expensive and was the fault on mine. The fuel filter if blocked can cause the hose to be sucked flat starving the fuel system. That also happened on mine when the car was 2 weeks old!
@c111prs Жыл бұрын
They always ask when was fuel filter last changed before you go on most dynos , again a good call to change this item ,, that might not fix issues but certainly worth doing

The best way to check a radiator isn't blocked is to the the car run up to temp and feel the rad all over to make sure there is no cold spots , filling it with water means nothing it could be half blocked and would still flow water from a hose pipe fine . I wouldn't be too worried even if it was the head gasket its a £200 job at most if your doing it your self . at least its hopefully sorted now though and another job ticked off the list

When it stops running, can you hear the fuel pump when you turn the ignition back on? Wiring to the pump and the pump relay are notorious. Also change the fuel filter if it's been sat for so long.

Adam check the crankshaft position sensor as these tend to mass up and cause the cutting out issues! I have seen many that do this and there is no ryhme or reason but they run for 5 mins then cut out! then run for 5 mins and cut out! They can and will stop the car starting eventually!

I had a GTi that I got cheap as it kept cutting out. It turned out to be a dodgy fuel pump relay which was just making contact and no more. Car used to run fine but after about 5 mins the vibration caused the contacts inside the relay to fail. It’s a cheap thing to check. Good luck.

Have you checked the thermostat? Standing 6 years it can easily be stuck. Test it in boiling water. The turbo pipe would not stop flow through the radiator so i recon when you removed the stat you knocked it enough to free it off. I used to be a Ford RS tech. 🙂
