Just warrantied some loose BOX Three v-brakes, they sent me some new ones straight away... which are loose also but this time in two directions, and the tuning screws were made of butter.... so I guess the low-end box stuff is just garbage.

Yes Box! 9speed! So pleased to see someone who still knows less is more. I've only just gone away from 8speed because it was more reliable. The only reason I moved was to get a clutch mech. My only suggestion would be a medium and short cage mech and low actuation ratio like SRAM 1:1 so give even more reliability to the transmission.

To be clear, he was saying this particular BOX 9sp drivetrain is good. Shimano 9sp doesn't have a clutch mech and sram probably doesn't either. Clutches are vital in keeping the chain on through rugged terrain and jumps. Normally it's available on 10sp and up Shimano (look for shadow+) and most high end sram stuff.

The BOX eBike setup is the best thing I've heard about derailleur drivetrains in a long, long time! Reinvent the 9 speed with wide range, that HAS to happen - it just makes so much sense. If I wasn't running a gearbox now (🙌) I would be straight on the phone to BOX people trying to get me some of that action!!! ~ Please bike gods, for the sake of the planet and people's sanity, make this happen! 🤞
@BoxComponentsOfficial
@BoxComponentsOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
How do you see this happening?
@RamsayMacFarlane
@RamsayMacFarlane 5 жыл бұрын
@@BoxComponentsOfficial you should release Seth's setup to the public, for leg-powered bikes! A wide range cassette with 9 speed mech and shifter - strong and reliable. As long as the range is there for going up and down hills, the increased gap between gear ratios is minimal and your leg power easily overcomes this! If we could so a statistical survey of how many gears mtb riders change at any one time, I would bet there are far more multi-gear shifts and than single clicks, therefore we generally don't need such a gradual change in gears... My pinion gearbox has 12 gears with a 600% range, making each step a little wider than usual (ignoring the uniform gear ratio steps) and it's still not enough - I often shift two or three gears at a time! MTB is so dynamic! I would hope that we (the mtb public) have got over the bigger number of gears meaning it's better... Who needs 13 speed, or even 12 or 11 for that matter? 9 or 10 is plenty...

Seth, i feel your pain on the matte paint. I highly recommend putting a ceramic coating on your frame. It’s the same stuff the automotive geeks will put on their high end sports cars. It will slightly alter the matte paint to more of a satin look. HOWEVER, fingerprints, grease etc will be a non issue and cleaning your bike will be next level easy. And the ceramic application lasts one to two years. Cheers and love your channel from Greensboro NC!

that sounds interesting, aren't the gaps between gears just too big? I'm running a 11-40T 9 speed and gaps are pretty good, but it's a 2x9 system to get good ratio.

Juan Carlos Alpízar I don’t like too many gears because I don’t feel the difference between the gears so I prefer bigger gaps

@@Asthbendriel Cadence adjustment seems to be a really personal thing. I would be happy with a bike with 5 speeds across 12-42. Some people can't stand more than a 3 tooth change.

90% of the fun of mountain biking occurs even on a basic, fully rigid bike. If you can get a top of the line bike, awesome. But if not don't let it get you down. You are missing less than you would think.

I have a 2x9. The chain drops often between 1st and 2nd, because of the size difference, but I love it. Shifting between 1-2-3 on my previous 3x7 bike was pretty annoying. Why a 12 speed?
