I still remember the Wheeler Dealers episode where they bought a Boxter for a grand, because the auto gearbox was slipping in gear. Owner thought it may need a new box costing thousands, all it needed was a gearbox oil change! They fixed and updated and cleaned the car for less then a grand if I remember and sold it for a massive profit.

The 2.7 makes a good buy in terms of value proposition and performance that is not far off from the benchmark S variant, the reliability and relatively low running cost will leave more money in your wallet. Having driven base model Cayman 981 back to back there is very little difference mainly driving within legal or illegal limits. Nice car Matt, seriously love that classic 986 Boxster!

Nice find, I done the same and got the 2.7 987 on a blind buy, fantastic driving experiences, and as you said the induction noise is crazy. I just don't think there is a better car with the roof down on a lovely day

Drive the car, set the suspension in its highest position, shut it off in that position and measure the distance between the top of the tire to the bottom of the wheel well. Then, after 1 hour measure and see if there’s any difference. If the distance is identical, air suspension is in great condition and has no leaks. If it’s different, well, best of luck to you…

Great video Mat! Pity you missed out on the Cayenne, but welcome to the Boxster 986 club - lovely mint car at a great price! A few pointers: From your 996 you will know about the IMS bearing, so always warm it up and make sure the tempreture is above 80deg before doing launches or the like! Re the long throw on the gearshift: change for a 996 Turbo shifter, or a third party short shifter - cost about £100, same amount of cost to fit at a garage, or even a possible DIY job. Air con could be condensor, or rusty radiator (clean out the front bumper every 3-6months, it collects leaves and hence the radiators rot), or most often crushed pipes which run along the driver side, and if you do not know what you are doing/where to place the jack are easily damaged - Good Luck!

I used to have exactly that Boxster model (from new, same year!). I loved it. Mine had the plastic rear window which was a pain because it would get a kink in it when you lowered the roof and you had to knock that out with your hand. Otherwise it was perfect. Went all over Europe in it. Enjoy it!

I live in uk . Took the plane to go and buy my Octavia vrs from Northern Ireland 😜 my wife couldn’t believe me when I said I’ll take plane to buy a car 😂😂😂 I had 2 conversations on phone with the owner and he sound straight and honest. Told him, look I’m coming from far away , is there anything wrong with the car which I might notice ? He said , No. Car was amazing , he waited for me at the airport , paid for the car and drove it back home. I love straight honest people

Bore scoring a Porsche trait, you would think Porsche could sort this problem out once and for all. And the proper way to check engine oil is after a run and the engine oil is warm, cause oil expands when hot. That boxster was a bleeding bargain.

I had a 958 cayenne turbo, great car, would definitely recommend the 2nd gen cars. Bulletproof engine (other than the early ones which had a recall fix on the engine)

I bought a 986 2 days ago with a broken AC. We did a leak test with dye and could not find a leak. We evacuated and re-added coolant and it works great. I think normally refrigerant should not leave the lines, but after 25 years anything is possible.

Bought my 2016 Cayenne GTS sight unseen from one of those online shops that just ships you the car like Amazon. It had zero issues. We've driven it another 15,000 miles since then and it's had zero issues. [If you can look at a car first, def. look at the car first. This was dumb luck] It's also a delight. She does everything very well.

Get the water drains cleared! When serviced badly, these don’t get cleared and water goes where it shouldn’t and to the alarm control unit, under one of the seats. Check under the carpet. This is SO common on these

That's not the suspension compressor, it's the accumulator for the same. The compressor is under the RHS side sill. The VW rebuild kit can save you hundreds! The cardan centre bearing often fails prematurely. An after market bearing is easier to fit.

I'm an Owner of exactly this Model Generation Cayenne Turbo. Mine now has over 200k kilometers on the clock and so far i only had to do the regular upkeep, oil changes, wheels etc. Oh and the AC didnt work once all of the sudden but that was fixed easily and not expensive to get done either. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo of that Generation is VERY reliable and one of the most popular cheap luxury SUVs you can buy used here in Germany. No idea what the Owner did with these side pieces peeling off, never seen that, not even on the worst models Prost & Cheers from Germany

matt the compressor shaft seals leak when not being used as they rely on the oil to stop them from leaking that's why when people don't use them in winter time come summer the gas could have escaped a pressure test with nitrogen will find the issue good luck and what a steal that is mint 👌👌

I've had a UK Cayenne Turbo for years. My wife even insisted taking it with us when we moved to Germany. You forgot to mention the biggest weak point with the early cars; the coolant pipes. They get brittle and crack. Before I bought mine I checked and they had been replaced with aluminium pipes. We did have the prop shaft refurbished at a specialized shop in Munich. Eventually sold it for a lot less than the one you looked at😢
