I have new scripture writing project. I bought an old Christian songbook from the thrift store. It’s 78 years old! I find a Bible verse that goes along with the song and write it around the song. Then I decorate the page with a transparent sticker.

I've started writing out/studying the book of Philippians in a notebook separate from my regular Scripture writing notebook. It's how I used to study through books of the Bible for years. I wrote out a few verses, looked up words, underlined, connected with lines, circled . . . looked at commentaries - copied sections that spoke to me. It's all sort of color-coded. Sometimes I add my own thoughts as I go. I add prayer. I ask God questions. He often gives me other verses to answer my questions right then and there - or later maybe a few days later. I even wrote some poetry, draw . . . I learned so much doing all that. I don't know why I stopped. Anyway, I'm starting again!

The loud and repetitive choruses remind me strongly of certain brainwashing techniques that are designed to change consciousness. So I never go back to a church that does this. It is revolting to me. I tend to agree with you about worship. When King David danced before the Lord that was joyful, but would not have been considered "reverent". I've been to churches that are loud and rowdy and they criticize churches not that way, saying they are "dead" churches. That hurts my heart. Maybe those quiet churches are more reverent.
@thehomespunwife6 күн бұрын
Yes....any time we are critical of others for their sincere worship of the Lord, that's hurtful. There are all kinds of worship styles. As long as the Lord is honored, praised, and glorified, that's the most important part.

@@tammyguill5380 Yes....that's right , Tammy. That's 1 Corinthians 14: 40. Oooo that is an interesting format. I’ve done things where I write out the Scripture the pastor is teaching, for example on every third line and use the space for notes. I also have a journal where I started writing out the entire New Testament word for word. I stopped in the gospels but that is another project I want to pick up. Writing out the Scripture word for word really does slow you down and help you to think about the word more. I’ve found that one of the simplest and best Bible study methods for me personally.

Hi Sherry! Love to hear your thoughts and analysis of what you are studying! These books look great! I am seriously considering how I could fit this into my Bible study schedule! The publisher, Reformation Heritage Books ascribes to a Reformed theology, so you may find some differences as you work through the questions, if your theology differs. The editor, Joel Beeke, is Chancellor at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, so you can tell that the bent of this publisher is VERY conservative. That said, I have grown the most in the last nine years or so, as I began to listen to deep Bible teaching of reformed pastors such as R C Sproul, John MacArthur and others. As you said, it is good for us to consider questions from all angles as it helps us firm up our own beliefs. I agree that the question about taking a "low view of ourselves" sounds a little harsh! You do a great job of gracefully explaining your view!
@thehomespunwife6 күн бұрын
Hi Heidi! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. It's true that Reformed theology is very conservative but I do admire many of those beliefs. Dear Sherry. I'm a new subscriber and I know it didn't happen by chance. I believe the good Lord led me to your channel. I love the concept of scripture writing. We are starting the book of John in a new small Home Group. What Bible version do you write from when writing out your scriptures in the Book. Also the questions were different, do they come from a certain organization or denominations? I may be interested in getting this one book to start.
@thehomespunwife5 күн бұрын
Hi Debbra! When I am studying, I rely on several versions of the Bible, reading each one to get a feel for what the Word is saying. I like the King James, New King James, NIV, and CSB. But the NLT is my all-around favorite translation, if I had to choose just one. It's the translation I'm using for the Scripture Writing in this book. These books are by Reformed Heritage, so they adhere to Reformation Theology. Many of my core beliefs align with their interpretation of doctrine. For example, they believe in the Holy Trinity, that Jesus was fully Divine while being fully human, and that Jesus Christ is the only way for man to receive eternal life.

Interesting the way that part was worded about thinking low about ourselves, perhaps he was trying to say don’t think of yourself more highly than you ought. Because we as Christians can remain humble while having good or positive thoughts about ourselves. Just being careful not to become haughty or prideful. Because perhaps anyone of us could put ourselves on a pedestal? So maybe it’s more of a caution or warning to us, by the way it’s worded, just some thoughts.
@thehomespunwife6 күн бұрын
Yes...and this was one of my thoughts too, Ursula.
@mdroyce19835 күн бұрын
The question about having a low view of oneself made me think of John the Baptist saying about the the One that comes after him, he (John) is not worthy to untie His (Jesus’) sandals. I am not worthy of my salvation, there is nothing I can do to be worthy. I am saved by the grace that God has chosen to give me. That means that even if I can’t always see it, I am precious to God. There is something in me outside of anything that I have done that God sees that makes Him want to call me His own. That is so humbling. My mind cannot comprehend it. It’s not an issue of self esteem or thinking poorly of myself, it’s the idea that for as sinful as I am, I am chosen, redeemed and loved. I AM special. But my identity in Christ is not my own… I am these things because God has said it is true. That’s how I would answe the question… sorry for the essay 😂

I think the question about having a low view is perhaps just a very poorly worded question. My take would be that pastors, and actually all believers, should model how Jesus came to earth as human and lived as a servant. He was not above washing the disciples feet. He could have come and lived in royalty but that was not his plan. So pastors and all believers should never see themselves as somehow better than others or allow themselves to be put on some pedestal. We are to think of others above ourselves and have a servant heart. I love your videos, they are always an encouragement.

There's another company that has books just like this without the commentary! They're all sold in black hardback covers for each book of the Bible. Just like the ones you're showing; just not with the commentary. It sounds like it might be better with just the Word! Since their black covers have just the book of the Bible across them, they're not as aesthetically pleasing on the outside. But that's okay for me! I'd rather have that than a questionable commentary section. 🤲
