I get such bad dandruff!! Especially with no poo. Even if I'm doing a baking soda/vinegar routine. I'm now doing water only. What I've found works for me is once a week, I'm mix 50/50 water/vinegar with a bit of tea tree oil. I let that sit on my scalp for 30 minutes before I rinse with water only. It's working great for me! And I've suffered from dandruff since I was a young teen.

I have never had dandruff really before no poo! This sounds like a great method though will definitely have to try it out!

I've been 2 years water-only now, both replacing shampoo and soap. When I started everyone swore by boar-bristle brushes. I know you're vegan, so I don't know if there are animal-friendly brushes that you could get, but they really really work at spreading the oils in your hair. Keep it up! Don't get too upset when your hair doesn't go the way you want it. I think a lot at takes to make this a lifestyle and not something that you give up is accepting that your hair will be different. It's been 2 years now and I still have my bad days where my hair is very greasy. There are so many factors to it, food, sleep, mental health, hormones, etc. And I still have dandruff at times. So don't think that once you are over your transition period that everything will be cured and go "back to normal". You will need to accept a new "normal", a healthier and more natural one. Also, as you stated in the video, but I think it bears repeating, we always think our hair is extremely noticeable and that everyone is looking at us. They're not! And I can say that since I started water-only, I actually get compliments on my hair, when I never did before. And I always think that my hair is really greasy and gross and that everyone will think that I don't shower. It's all in your head. You're also doing a lot of work for your hair and I think you might get burnt out after a while. I have tried different things myself, such as not even brushing my hair, doing a lot like you do, etc. I have found that a brush will keep your hair from getting really oily and your scalp from getting really itchy. I massage my head in the shower for maybe 5 to 10 minutes usually, just enough to make it not itchy anymore and that works. And yes, my hair is still very heavy in the shower and it's a fight to move my fingers through my hair, it feels all tangled. But all that said, I love that about my hair now. I'm completely natural and self-sufficient. I don't rely on soaps or shampoos or any products. And my hair looks great, especially after a shower. And yours does too. I can see a little dandruff in your videos, but don't worry so much about that. Try to accept it and by the time you have, you won't notice it as much. My hair is still different from other people's, but it also looks good. It is oily, but the sebum is natural and should be there. Don't fight that too much. And be stubborn! I am a new subscriber, so I haven't followed your vegan story yet, if you have even talked about it, but this takes stubbornness just as becoming vegan does. It's a lifestyle change so it doesn't happen overnight. My advice to you: Accept that your hair will always be like this, and learn to love it. And then it will only get better over time as your oil levels slowly change. Hopefully, by then you won't even notice the change, as I didn't. I hope you stick with this and we can keep calling you a sebum head :D I hope some of this helps you in your journey....if you're even reading it. P.S. I do do a rhassoul clay hair wash every 8~12 months if/when I feel that my head is extremely oily. I keep it in for about 10~15 minutes. Afterwards it strips out all of the oils and I immediately regret it, but it helps if I slack on my hair brushing and I want a fast way to restart.

HARD WATER! That waxy sebum your were talking about? My hair was starting to get stiff too. So I finished my wash today with a distilled water rinse. FIXED IT COMPLETELY! My hair is SO SOFT and pliable now! My curls are defined, and my sebum is evenly distributed. My theory is that even a little extra minerals in your water will result in mineral build up on your hair if you're water only. But distilled water or a ACV rinse will remove it for you. So there you go.

The ACV is great for our hair type (dry, curly) - it helps with the PH of your scalp (helping with the flaking/dandruff) and helps the cuticle of the hair strand to lay flatter ultimately creating a smoother hair (shiny!) and thus helping to reduce/eliminate frizz. I "plop" (the t-shirt method with the added step of lowering your head down vertically onto the t-shirt which is on a horizontal surface. Plopping helps to coil your hair (into spring shapes) and allow the coils to dry in that shape. It increases curl longevity (hair dried in a tight curl will maintain its spring) and also reduces frizz even more.

You've inspired me to go water-only as well! I'm two weeks into the transition. Going 7 days without washing is not so fun but I feel like my hair is getting healthier already. I love how willing to share you are - very inspiring and motivating!!

Hi! I live in Devon and I'm also doing no poo at the moment! I've been 5 weeks water only. I'm still in the transition phase but so determined to stick to it. Watching your videos really encourages me! Thank you x

You should look up soap nuts as shampoo or reetha Amla Shikakai shampoo recipes. They are Indian gooseberries that produce a saponin. They remedy dandruff, are gentle on the scalp, and make hair shiny. I have curly hair and dandruff issues, and these natural berries as shampoo are the best natural shampoo and shampoo in general I have used Bc my dandruff is almost gone

Soap nuts are great for laundry too! The only downside is that ever since first world people started buying it Indians apparently switched to traditional laundry detergent full of chemicals, but cheaper. So I like to find some more local options when looking for natural alternatives, it has a smaller ecological footprint.

I actually used soapnut shampoo to begin with on my low poo journey! Trying out water only for now but definitely would consider going back to low poo methods in the future :)

Hi Madeleine! I'm trying no-poo myself. I was using castile soap and ACV for months before this, but now I'm doing water only. These videos are so helpful. I'm on day 9 and I'm still looking pretty good!

That's awesome! Just make sure your scalp isn't too shocked by the change, you know? It's taken me more than months to get down to water only. But I love it!

im no poo for 3months and more now..i went water only right away so what my little experience is that the less you wash your hair the better...it doesn't matter if it is just water because you need to let your hair gets a bit oily and then wash it...i wash my hair once a week since the very first week i started..and i wash it with as hot water as i can handle...from the first time my hair looked cleaned enough although it get a bit greasy after 3 days...but 3months after my hair looks really good!

I bought large flour sack towels. Great to use to on no poo hair. I use these after I put coconut oil on ends and wrap in flour sack towel for 30 minutes. Great towels for everything and lightweight but absorbent

I loveee apple cider vinegar it helped my hair a lot. I have very dry thick frizzy hair and it makes my hair so manageable and so easy to brush through and smooth. I shampoo my hair but I use very little shampoo and only on my scalp and once a week. I use a sulphate silicone free and paraben free shampoo so my hair have been the best I ever had :)

Using something acidic to lift the dead skin and oils from the scalp makes sense, now that I'm thinking about your experience; we use acids to help exfoliate and peel the skin on our faces, why not our scalps?
@callmeswivelhips8229
@callmeswivelhips8229 7 жыл бұрын
I find it interesting how different acids work better for different people. I know a few youtubers that love ACV rinses. But my hair doesn't like them, I don't know why. Even when very dilute (think one cup in a bath), it still makes my hair shrink and shrivel and look totally gross for a week. But I love citrus juices. Both lemon and lime juice work very very well for me, even in a 1:1 ratio with water! Go figure.

I've been using baking soda and vinegar for almost 4 months. I really don't want to return using shampoo but what can I do for itching? I want to use water only but I'm not sure because of that itching. Did you experience hair loss during that process? Whenever I put my hand into my head, there is always some hair and that discourages me so much. Thank you for your valuable sharings. Take care😊

Im doing the no poo. I absolutely cant stand the smell of vinigar. N I was wondering when you rinsed your hair, later was the smell of vinigar still on your body or in your hair? N is your hair natural curly?

Did you notice that you're loosing more hair when you're brushing it so much every day? I don't dare to brush my hair that much because I used to have such nice thick hair when I was younger but for the last few years my hairs has been getting thinner and thinner and I don't wanna tear out even more hair by brushing it so much. :/

I was doing low poo before so still washing my hair. So when I started no poo I was essentially starting from scratch again. And it is coming up to a month water only.

What do you think about using only water to wash your whole body?
@hotsauceinmyweeniehole7337
@hotsauceinmyweeniehole7337 7 жыл бұрын
ColdClockworkDoll Don't do it, you would smell so bad and it's not beneficial. I recommend getting a shower every other day with a mild body wash and ALWAYS use a natural deodorant. (If you have dry skin use olive oil as a lotion, it's great for your skin and prevents aging!)

I don't know why you're doing no shampoo if it's causing you to have greasy hair you don't like as you seem to be talk about this in your videos a lot . What's the benefit to doing it apart from it being trendy?
@hotsauceinmyweeniehole7337
@hotsauceinmyweeniehole7337 7 жыл бұрын
Sarah Keating It's not trendy at all in fact most people say I'm disgusting. Shampoo is very bad for your hair and has many harmful chemicals. My hair used to be so greasy and fine and now I can go a full week without washing my hair and it's so thick, healthy, and manageable! (Also not washing your hair everyday can prevent hair loss.)
