I love my Masterbuilt, I went for the round hold one. I did change the tuners thou, and Replaced them with Grover Delux. The electronics are also lacking, so i removed them. That Kent sounds really nice

Sounds great with that pickup! Very much like my trusty Epi Emperor with flat wounds. Great playing as well :} Thanks for posting

Hello, can you help me? Wich under saddle pickup are you using? The original one of my guitar is not working and i need to replace it. Any reference? Thanks

Looks like he’s using a mini humbucker mounted to the neck. You’ll struggle to get this sound with a piezo/ under saddle. Hope this helps :)

Yes, this is a very big problem with the epiphone zenith. I had the same problem with my first roundhole-zenith! But I bought it in a big store, so I could send it back to get a new one, which had a faulty piezo again. This happened two more times!!! Then it worked, but I have not liked the sound of the piezo! So I put the Kent-Armstrong-Mini-Humbucker to it - the same as in this video here. I like this humbucker-sound much more and think it fits better to this kind of guitar. Although it gets an interesting acoustic-touch to mix the sound of the piezo and the humbucker! So I´m sorry that I cannot recommend any other piezo/undersaddle-pickup :-(

Sounds great. How did you install the pickup (wiring etc.)?
@olliback
@olliback 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Mihail! I did not made it myself. I went to the Guitar-Atelier of Ralf Koca. He just drilled a small cable-hole underneath the part of the neck where he fixed the pickup and changed the tailpiece-strap-pin for a second plug-in. So now I can play the piezo-pickup with the original plugin or the humbucker with the tailpiece-plug-in ... or even both at the same time which gives an interesting mix of electric and acoustic sounds ;-)

Olli Back vielen Dank!
@olliback
@olliback 4 жыл бұрын

Lovely jazz tone. Are your tone controls on the amp, just top end rolled off, or something else? This is the tone I'm looking for. Did you consider the Kent Armstrong Jazzy Joe, wondering what made you choose the JHGN6 instead?
@olliback
@olliback 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, the tone control is completely down. It is recorded using a little Fender-Mustang Digital-Amp switched on "Twin-Reverb". I always thought the HJGN6 is the Jazzy Joe ... hmmmm, am I wrong??

@@olliback Thanks for getting back to me, Olli. Yes, it's the Jazzy Joe. Since finding your KZbin I've researched the Kent Armstrong pickups and very impressed. I've order a set of JS111 to begin with, arriving tomorrow (only £14 from amazon, amazing price). Re the pickup I've found a supplier in the UK but the specification (I mean the dimensions) seem to differ so I'm thinking there must be different flavours of the HJGN6, would you know if that's correct as I want to try the exact same type that you are using. In a 2017 video, I think it was Moonlight in Vermont, you say in the comments your using the Jazzy Joe but the sound is very different, was that down to the JS111s do you think?
@olliback
@olliback 3 жыл бұрын
@@KS-pj8rk I am sorry, but I don´t know the JS111 :-( The Jazzy Joes I use on these guitars are all the same and I simply got them from eBay ( each for around 60€). The different sound in these two videos depends on the different guitars I think and maybe I had a different adjustment of the amplification ... . But I think these pickups are very fine! I also put one into the soundhole of an Epiphone PR5, because I did not like the piezo-sound of it .... and ... wow ... it sounded like a great jazz-guitar then :-)

@@olliback Thanks again Olli. I wasn't very clear about the JS111s. They are the Thomastik Jazz Swing 11-47 flatwound strings that you referred to, and they arrived a couple of hours ago, heh-heh. I'm completely convinced by the Jazzy Joe pickup, it's what my vintage archtop needs for sure. I'm trying to decide whether to get the bracket version or the pick guard version but it will be ordered once I've resolved that. I haven't been able to find one for 60 Euros but they're not that much more expensive. I love the sound you got on My One And Only Love using the Zenith with the JS111s and Jazzy Joe. I notice your using mostly thumb, the strums are so lovely, and I think your using the thumb nail on single notes? Thanks for posting and I'm so glad I stumbled across your KZbin channel. By way of a thank you please type Tangee into KZbin to listen to Johnny Smith"s wonderful tone on this piece. It's a repeated 6/9 chord at the start, and after the accordion intro he plays the most lovely single lines.

@@KS-pj8rk aaah you meant the strings ... sorry, I thought you were writing about a pickup called JS111 :-))) I listened to Tangee. Yes, it´s a very fine recording and I love the accordion too!
