Sick to death of Drs lying about “you will have slight discomfort”. Why do the feel the need to lie? It was the worst pain I have ever had. 14 days of being bed ridden and peeing blood, crying, taking schedule 8 drugs. 10 days sick leave, I could walk to the toilet and shower myself. Anyone I speak to about a stent, I put the fear of God in them, so they are at least prepared for what is going to come. Don’t lie to patients, it is not cool.

@@fozjun21 Yes, it varies from person to person. I had stents in both ureters for a couple months before I was able to have follow-up surgery. I had discomfort whenever I was more active (exercising, working), and I would regularly urinate blood, but I was not in excruciating pain that had me bedridden. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell how a person will respond to a stent before having one placed.

This is exactly what has happened with me. I have a very high pain tolerance, but this kidney stone and stent brought me to my knees. I am on day 5 of 6. Get to remove the stent with string myself tomorrow. I had a small stone 5.2mm. We waited for 10 weeks for it to pass. No luck!! So sick of taking all the meds just to get by. Can’t function. In bed or on the couch for 5 days. The day of the surgery, we could not get pain under control and bladder spasms to lessen. I had to insist they admit me to administer IV pain meds. Crazy how I was asked by every nurse and doctor I saw if I wanted to go home. 😫. I believe a lot of people just don’t understand how painful this procedure can be for some. I would put my pain higher than childbirth!!!!

I hope you are now free of the pain, my story is almost identical to yours and many others on here. I'm so glad I found this brave lady's video. I'm 75 and live on my own in a remote place 50km from the hospital in France where this Alien THING was fitted. I won't bore you with the details which are the same as many people here. I haven't slept for 4 nights, ironically they kept me overnight in the hospital as I live on my own. I am ringing the hospital in the morning. I cannot even walk to the toilet, I'm walking bent double like a witch with a walking stick. And coping on my own here is very difficult. And there are so many other people suffering. The only other symptoms I can add for others who are worried are that all my pain seems to be in my vagina, and I only have to move slightly like take a quick breath and I'm in agony, I did not even know I had a big 2cm stone 3 months ago, before I had several long urine infections and I was given a routine scan. Now I am completely disabled and incontinent on mega pain killers. I'm just waiting for daylight to ring the hospital and hopefully I can go and get it taken out later. I don't know what I'll do if they say I need to keep the stent in, I'll go to the emergency department. I hope everyone in similar pain with these instruments of torture, gets the relief they need. Wish me luck.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately for me I had an extremely traumatic experience and I'm still facing the consequences of it. For me the pain was so intense, I felt like having electric shocks going up and down my spine and back of the skull, went to A&E about 5 times after having the stent put in, and kept complaining about that I couldn't cope with the pain and also that I wasn't sleeping at all. Anyway all they kept doing were blood tests and telling me that I would had to wait for an appointment for the removal of the stent. Anyway hospital didn't think it was a big deal, unfortunately when it comes to sleep they're not interested in it and every time they pretty much said that I had to cope with the pain, consequently kept unirating blood and had to wait 2months for the appointment, they then removed the stone and replaced a new stent and had to wait a further 2weeks for the complete removal of the stent. 8 months later, I lost my job, I ended up in 3 different mental hospitals, was put under section 2 and 3, can't fall to sleep without medication, suffer from anxiety and depression and even with medication some nights I don't get sleep at all. It has totally destroyed my life

@strawberrygirl857211 күн бұрын
I think it's important for people to know what to expect from a ureteral stent and to know that it can be very irritating and, for some, even painful. But it can also be painless and often causes no real trouble. I've had a couple of friends who've had several of them and they told me it was awful, painful, pokey, stabby, etc. Well, my turn came eventually and I was so scared I argued with my doctor and tried so hard not to have a stent. But it was necessary and in the end I was grateful for it. I was in SUCH bad pain from the 9mm stone stuck in my ureter, but once the stent was placed it felt so much better. Instant pain relief. I had to have the stent for a month while I was waiting for infection to clear up and for the laser lithotripsy to blast and remove the stone. The stent was then removed with the lithotripsy procedure when they removed the stone and a new stent was then placed while still under anesthesia in the OR, but I only had to have that one in for a week. Neither of my stents hurt or caused pain. They did cause a little irritation; I knew they were there and that feels weird. Sometimes they'd poke a bit when moving around, so I did need to limit my movement. And they did cause bladder pressure, so I felt like I had to pee very often. Drinking a lot of water helps with that poking sensation, though, and you're going to be up peeing all the time anyway, so drink a lot of water. Docs always say "you should be able to resume normal activity, go to work, etc". Nah, not the case for me. I needed to limit movement, be a bit gentle with myself, grocery shopping or doing any long amount of walking was NOT comfortable because it increased the friction inside the ureter and just made me feel sore and tired. Flomax helps keep the ureter dilated and a bit more relaxed until it can be removed. But, believe me, it was FAR, FAR less pain that the stuck stone was causing, which was a 9 or 10 out of 10. This was just uncomfortable and when I was gentle with myself, it didn't hurt at all or interfere with my sleep. Same with the 2nd one. The 2nd one I was allowed to pull the string and remove myself at home, which was very quick and easy in the shower.

I wrote earlier on here that I was having laser treatment for stones. I was in incredible pain due to the actual JJ Stent. I put up with it for a month until the second lithotripsy for the other part of stone. The stent was replaced! Even more pain, after 6 days I couldn't walk, couldn't sit due to vaginal pain. Eventually I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and put on morphine, Saturday. The doctor came round on Sunday morning at 8am! (This is France!) and within half an hour I was being prepped for theatre, my breakfast was delivered then snatched away! The offending GiGi stent was taken out under local anesthetic. So quick. I was so happy, but 2 weeks later I still gave terrible pain in my vagina, this apparently is related to constipation! So dealing with that now. Thanks for your video. I too will ask for a nephrostomie if I get another stent. I am told the pain should settle in one to 2 months? WTH, anyway I have another scan in January and another appointment with the urologist.

I wonder if the other people who experience so much more pain with the stent then others, like myself. If you have interstitial cystitis but are not aware of it. I think it’s one of the most undiagnosed problems that people have. I.C. Is when you have tears in your bladder. So having the stent for people who have that, the pain is a constant 10+. For me it is worse than the kidney stone itself that I had stuck in my ureter for over 4 months. I avoid kidney stone surgery like the plague. I’ve been passing kidney stones for almost 15 years. I lost count after the first few years just how many. It’s definitely like living with a curse. But to add Interstitial Cystitis on top of that is even more brutal. I hope this message finds someone looking for answers as to why they may not only be struggling with pain from a stent but also just every day life. It causes you to need to urinate often, it burns, the whole bladder aches & mimics a UTI.

Oh my gosh thank you so much for sharing! I currently have a stent because of a large kidney stone blocking my ureter and have had for the last 3 weeks (it's here for 2 months until I can have my stone lasered) and unless I am lying in a certain position it is so painful and makes me feel so sick, I was feeling so pathetic as I researched and everywhere says may experience "some pain" and mine is alot more and stopping me from working and dancing (I don't normally sit still for long)... I really hope the remove it when I'm in surgery... If not can you have someone in with you for removal??? Thank you so much for sharing! Feeling a lot less alone after watching and reading the comments

Ahh I'm sorry you are currently going through this. ☹️ I have had many stents before and every single time they leave me bed-bound in pain & barely able to walk. Know that you're not alone and when google/the doctors say it's not that painful that's a load of rubbish. I'm guessing they will either take your stent out after your surgery or a few weeks later. Sometimes they leave it in to allow the fragments to pass more easily but there are ways around this (depending on your surgeon).. definitely worth asking if they can get the stent out as soon as the surgery is done. I've vowed to never consent to a stent again after my last experience. I have had many operations without stents, so I know it's possible but it's more complicated for the surgeon I believe, so they are often unwilling to do it. The positive is that once the stent is out, you'll feel so much better. Take comfort in the fact that sooner or later the pain will be gone!!

Thanks for sharing this video. I've experienced the worst pain of my life with the stent. It was a constant cramping of my bladder. The fuller the bladder got, the better got the (cramping) pain. To everyone going through it as well what helped me (besides narcotics unfortunately): Buscopan (a antispasmodic often also used for period cramps) and heat (hot water balloon) between the legs (urethra).

Stent due to blocked ureter, hydroureter and hydrokidney. This is my the stone in less than a year. I cannot bear this pain with this stent. It is nearly as bad as the flank pain from the kidney stones. The only way I'm comfortable is if I am knocked out asleep. Otherwise it is constant burning, urgency and pressure. Right now all around my belly button it feels rock hard. And I'm hoping everything is ok. I was able to lay on my side after the procedure to release the stone and the blocked up urine, but now once again I'm feeling pain while lying on my side. The emptier my bladder is, the more pain I feel. And they do NOT like to give pain meds for anything here in the US anymore. Honestly could be lying there dying and they'd be like why waste meds on a dying person?

Wow, I am so fortunate that I was not in any pain while the stent was in place. I knew what a cystoscopy was like since I had gone over 20 years before. This time after a kidney surgery, I was not told until two days afterward, that I had a stent put in.I found a urologist who would remove the stent under general anesthesia because I would never let anyone do a cystoscopy again without that I realize that for some reason the procedure is not that painful but for enough patience, it is excruciating

I know this is two years old and I am so sorry of the pain you experienced. I too had double j stints in each kidney. Started with the neph tubes in my back for 6 months, then the stints went in. All this because of cancer and blocking my uter tubes. Was told they could control the spasms with meds, get them put in then get told we can’t give you anything because of your reduced kidney function. So, o thing in the bladder for 6 months then two stints rubbing. I have never ever experienced such agony, constant agony, worse when I pee which is like all the time. I agree, docs should be honest and tell us this could suck. These are coming out in 48 hours, I will take my chances, I have a shit life right now and cannot even walk.

It's so funny you say this because I'm in the same boat. I watched a video, and it made out to be so mild. This thing is killing me, can't walk away from toilet, burns like hell, and every time I urinate I get a spasm that feels like my kidney is in a vise. I'm male, so I'm to understand it's worse for men. Mines 5mm, so I can't imagine 8mm... I'm apprehensive about pulling mine out too. The first surgery was unsuccessful, they couldn't get the camera up, so they said to leave the Stent in and I have to go back under after a week or two and they said it should open up more to allow the camera up through. I need this thing out...

Had a ureteroscopy 2 days ago to remove a stone. Unfortunately for me, it was discovered I had a ureteral stricture so the scope couldn't pass through my ureter to get to the stone. A stent was placed. I'm dying of pain. Cannot stand straight, walk or move, nauseous at times, no appetite, peeing blood constantly and it's painful to pee, back hurts, abdomen feels full and extremely bloated, lower pelvic area in constant pain and the side with the stent is throbbing, can't get comfortable in any position, can't sleep, can't do a thing, basically bedridden. My parents are doing everything, feeding me, bathing me, changing my clothes, helping me use bathroom etc. Pure hell. I have to go at least 2 weeks with it. I don't know how to cope that long. Painkillers aren't helping much 😢 There is a chance the stent won't be enough and I have to do some sort of balloon dilation procedure in 2 weeks to try and retrieve the stone. If that doesn't work, I have to do laser to cut the stricture. All because of an unnecessary stone 😡 God help me through this! 😢 P.S: I am glad you are doing well and over this whole ordeal. God bless and thanks for the video. Thought I was having complications but it seems it's all "normal" with stents. You put my mind at ease so thanks a lot for sharing. My doctor gave me no info whatsoever about what to expect nor does he take my concerns seriously.

The spasms or contractions or whatever it is doing, feels like it is trying to expel the demons, blood and all. Gas lighting from drs and nurses ... Yeah it'll be uncomfortable. No. It will be painful. Sure this pain isnt anywhere near it was that got me to the emergency room, but this isnt just "uncomfortable". Have imaging in 2 days, to see if the stone has moved, then have a procedure to breakdown the stone, and hopefully keep the stent out. This is horrific.

I’m suffering terribly as I’m watching this video searching for some relief. I’ve had 5-6 of these stents after lithotripsy to blast stones and each time I’ve gone through hell with pain. Several years ago I was on strong pain meds with one and it was not helping me AT ALL. My niece who is a RN suggested I take 800mg ibuprofen and I said to her that I’m taking strong pain meds and it wasn’t helping, what on earth could ibuprofen do? I had nothing to lose so I took it and it worked! After that I never felt it at all and had it removed days later. So…years later when another stent was implanted I thought I had the magic fix… but NOPE!!! These things are horrible! I told my doc I want to be admitted to hospital on IV pain meds. But of course they don’t do that…but they should because it’s that bad!

I had my stent removed last Tuesday. I hated the stent! It was in there for 2 weeks and I urinated blood the entire time it was in there and kidneys ached and throbbed the whole time. Every time I urinated, it felt like someone was squeezing my testicles. I felt nauseous and clammy the entire time. The removal was pretty painful, but it didn’t take but like 10 seconds or so.
