Goodness. I am an older gal and didn't know what PCOS was. I am very happy that you have such a wonderful doctor who listened to you and is really in the know. Of course there are emotions to deal with. Very normal. You rode the wave and started educating yourself. Very powerful stuff and you are now helping others with your knowledge. I feel everything will work out and you will have many children running around your house. Many blessings to you and yours! ☮️🌍🌲🌷🌈

Im 39 and have pcos since a teen. I had my first pregnancy unplanned when I was 21 and have an almost 18 year old. I've wanted more kids ever since, but couldn't get a normal menstrual cycle. Once I realized I was getting older and was serious about a second baby I started keto. That was 4 years ago and I immediately had normal cycles for the first time in my entire life! I am sitting here holding my sleeping 2 month old as I type this comment!

As a hormone therapist, although not a diagnostician, I specialise in PCOS and have also had it myself! There is a difference between PCOS and PCOD; the latter people have cysts on the ovaries but hormone levels are normal; the former (PCOS) there may or may not be cysts on the ovaries, but hormone and other blood markers are abnormal. Although there is not one blood test to diagnose PCOS, there is usually abnormalities in one of the following high DHEA (a adrenal hormone); high androgens although not all women will have high androgens; high LH compared to FSH which should be tested at ovulation; and usually insulin resistance; the best test for this is HOMA-IR (not just HBA1c!). Also you may see elevated prolactin levels and possibly lower progesterone in the luteul phase (especially is there is annovulation). Adrenal and thyroid conditions can also present similar to PCOS so should again be evaluated by a medical professional. If you have only had androgens checked, and not the other blood work, I mention here, then I would get it checked including abnormal insulin. Hope this helps as a guide.

You are taking an awesome approach of action and education. I dont know how old you are but please dont be afraid to get aggressive if you dont get pregnant in a yr or so of trying. I have pcos and my husband also has some fertility issues. We were going to just let God decide and just keep trying....4 yrs later we decided to do IUIs. Did 4 of those and they didnt work. We thought we would never do ivf. We already had 2 adopted sons from foster care and we had alot of pressure from others to just be happy with the 2 we had. So we waited another 4 yrs. I knew i was meant to have babies so 9 yrs into marriage we decided to do IVF. It was a long, expensive emotional road but i am now pregnant with my 3rd ivf baby! My regret is waiting so long and trying to "just be happy with what i have" instead of starting earlier. Now i will be 42 and we have been having these 3 close together to fit them in before im too old! Whatever you decide is the path of action for you, dont be afraid to go for it and follow your intuition.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 36 after 11 years of being told nothing was wrong. I remember how relieved I was getting that diagnosis! Ultimately, my husband and I were not able to have children, BUT - my younger sisters both saw their doctors within a few weeks of my diagnosis and were also diagnosed. Because they had earlier diagnosis (they were 18 and 28), both were able to have beautiful, healthy children. My personal experience is that giving birth doesn't make you a mother. Others have mentioned adoption and fostering. I don't think it matters how your child becomes yours. Being a mother is in your heart - not your ovaries.

I am in Europe and every gynecologist I have ever been to does an ultrasound annually, so I have known about my PCOS for years. Despite this, I was able to get pregnant in my early thirties with no medical intervention (my kids are now 3 and 5) and I wish the same to you. The only thing I did on top of a healthy diet was taking a myo-inositol supplement - I am sure your book will mention it. All the best to you and your husband!

You will educate a lot of women with your video! I had an ovarian cyst once & the only way I knew I had it was the discomfort, sort of a throbbing intermittent pain. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound. It actually went away on its own, I'm hoping for the same for you. (This all happened AFTER having three children).
@fim1968

That's great that it went away on its own! I have a 4.5cm cyst, no symptos, it was found during an ultrasound and a pap test and I am considering surgery if it doesn't go away.. doctor said that above 5cm it should be taken out. Don't want to have surgery but also don't want it to burst unexpectedly.. if you don't mind, could you tell us how long it took for your cyst to go away and did you do anything to help things? My doctor didn't mention anything like that..

I also have PCOS. Inositol supplementation helped me so much. For the first time in my life I had regular periods. I think the studies have shown that it's just as good as or better than metformin (which is often prescribed) with little to no side effects. Might be worth looking into! Good luck!

I recently found out I have endo (after a 3 year process). I had a left ovary cyst (endometrioma) - 10cm. Got it removed in Dec. Good news is most PCOS cysts will go away on it's own but if surgery has to be done it's not the worst surgery :) good luck with everything in the future.

I know a woman who was told she categorically couldn't get pregnant because of treatment she'd had for a brain tumour. She went on to have two pregnancies, both went to term and resulted in completely healthy babies. So, even if they tell you at some point that it's not possible to get pregnant, it's not a certainty unless you've had reproductive organs removed.

I know I am coming to this video late, but why can’t your doctor drain the big cyst? I had a couple IVF cycles get delayed because of cysts, but they were able to drain it and we could move on. I was awake and they inserted a catheter like line. Took about 10 minutes.

Excuse my ignorance resulting from living in a country where tax covers healthcare... I'm puzzled that in a country where you pay for healthcare, you weren't able to get an ultrasound around the time of seeing the previous gynaecologist. I would have thought you'd have been able to get it done because you were willing to pay to have it done, because money talks.
@AbundantlyMinimal
@AbundantlyMinimal 8 ай бұрын
I didn't know to ask for it at the previous appointment. I don't know why doctors don't always initiate the testing. For this one, I had to pay about $150 out of pocket for the ultrasound and insurance covered the remaining $450.
