Let's not do the "Google is the only one who does this" nonsense. Get insurance on your foldables asap and never rely on the warranty. They'll all do it to you. Samsung and OnePlus too! Don't risk it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3nVpoGMbbqboqM Also, please no one else send donations! It's okay!

I mean... yes and no. I had a hinge problem with my old Z Fold 2. It stopped opening all the way because of all the dust it had accumulated over the years. My phone had many scratches on the sides and light scratches on the hinge. It was all covered under warranty because the hinge scratches were just that... scratches. They weren't dents or anything worse. When I see pictures of other people's broken Folds and Flips, I always see dents and heavy scratches. I do see the occasional foldable with faint scratches, but most of the time, they do have a valid reason when they refuse to fix stuff under warranty

I have even less faith in 3rd party insurers. I haven't had this problem with Apple. Whatever bias against them aside, they're in a different league when it comes to device longevity, durability, warranty and customer support. Simply having a physical store that you can walk into in 500+ locations across the world itself makes a huge difference. It is of course factored into the premium price but given the heavy use and abuse our tech gets these days, especially smartphones, it's worth it. I think you'll have to start factoring Apple into the discussion, especially once their foldable arrives. Though more tardy than I'd like, I'm confident it will outclass every competitor on the market in practically all respects except price.

Call my opinion unpopular, but if a device isn't worth getting without a warranty for fear of breaking due to normal use...it probably isnt worth buying. I really hope foldables keep improving in the next 5 years or so.

The way these companies treat customers paying $2000 for their phone is ridiculous. None of them are exempt from it. One plus taking two months to repair opens, Samsung looking for any tiny scratch on the phone to deny someone’s warranty, google in this case. It’s ridiculous. Honestly I hate iPhones, but Ive been waiting for them to drop a fold because at least they are normally pretty good with their customer service if you have AppleCare in my experience. Being able to walk into an Apple Store rather than sending the phone off would be huge.

I have kept my Duo2 for this very reason. I just don't feel that the foldable tech is robust enough. I suspect that the customer service departments are both struggling to cope with the volume of returns and aren't confident that the repairs will last. Replacement is expensive for them and will result in the same issue at some point. So the outcome is "send it back denying the issue".

That is worrying. Given that the cracks are under the surface, I don't understand how Google can blame you for them and refuse a repair. My only guess is that they just don't have enough inventory of spare parts to facilitate a repair. Had a very similar experience with my Z Fold 4 so it's definitely not just Google :( In my case I did have the Samsung Care+ coverage but my defect occurred right before my 1year was up so I sent it in, they sent it back with "no fault found" and by the time I got it back I was past my 1 year so they told me I could pay to go through insurance and I fought with them saying I had sent it in *before* the 1year but I got nowhere. Insurance or not, it's definitely a frustrating experience being told that you need to pay for something which should've been covered.

Id like to add my 2¢ to this comment section, albeit a few month old video. Thats extremely lame on googles part for not covering that over warranty. That being said, i actually pre ordered the zfold4 when it was launched, used it for just under a year when a black spot of dead pixels appeared in the fold of the large screen. Sent it directly back to Samsung as no 3rd party authorized repair centers near me. 1 week later got the same glitch notification from them that my phone was being sent back unrepaired, AFTER they had already confirmed it was warrantable failure. Couple calls later and they informed me it was due to them not having parts to repair it. Ended up getting a full refund of $1919, took a month to get my money but they at least did that. Sad google isnt holding up to even samsungs crappy customer service. Just bought a pixel fold and am glad i paid for the extra warranty after seeing this.

If you're in the states try contacting your state attorney general. Theres usaully a website for each specific state and its fairly easy to fill out. Also try contacting google or any company only through email or chat that way you have receipts for everything they say. But yeah by law a company has to honor there warrenty. Whether it be repairing the device, sending a new comparable device or refunding you. It could take a while but doing it this way usaually guarantees an outcome and theres really nothing more required of you after you fill out the forms forms for the attorney general. That is until google contacts you about it. This is the route I've taken in the past when companies are difficult to work with and has always yeilded results.

I wonder if this is one reason why neither Google nor One+ have released their foldables here in Australia - although we're always told it's market size - but our consumer laws would mean you have an excellent case to have the phone repaired or replaced free of charge. I find it worrisome that you've given up because of the exceptionally poor customer service and have had to accept the crack in your phone's screen. If it gets worse and does stop working you'll be in an even worse position. For an expensive device like this to not even last 12 months is insane.

It is important to determine the root cause of the cracking issue. Is the battery expanding and causing internal damage, despite the absence of external signs? It is crucial to monitor for overheating as expanding batteries can cause significant damage. Based on my experience working for Apple, I have witnessed numerous instances of cracked screens resulting from pocket pressure. Therefore, I strongly recommend using a protective pouch to safeguard the device.

you don't need insurance, if it breaks for no reason then don't buy from the same company again.

I had to replace mine as well. Eventually switched to the Pixel 8 Pro and now dealing with sudden LCD inking within 7 months owning the device that Ubreakifix states is a "physical damage". As much as I love the Pixel magic, I've decided not to support a company that puts out substandard products. Anything but a Pixel.

Im on the same page with you. Fantastic function, form factor, camera, etc.... but after it cracked being used in the same conditions and environment my OG Surface Duo was used in, then needing to file a insurance claim to replace it, I am now too nervous to daily drive this thing. I am back to my OG Duo for daily driving...

Its best to buy an aftermarket warranty, preferably with accidental protection, i replaced my fold 4 with the best buy protection, my inner screen cracked due to the hinge being warped, from being pretty brutal on my device it fell at least 20 times. In my opinion they are pretty solid devices. Conrete and asphalt drops not carpet 😂

I had to use my insurance on my z fold5 this last weekend. Ive always carried insurance since i started buying foldables, and i cant ever understand why someone wouldnt. Companies never want to honor warranties. These phones *will* break under normal use, eventually. More moving and bending parts will always eventually break. Have insurance, have a backup for when you need to use it. But people on social media ALWAYS freak out and it brings out the "ive had my fold 1 since launch and never had a problem!" Nutjobs. Like, good for you. Thats not normal.

Just keep in mind "eventually" is unprovable lol. My other folding devices have remained fine. Luck of the draw to some degree I think.

I have a Google credit card which lets my finance 0% interest for 24 or 36 months depending on what I'm purchasing. I don't use it because my other credit cards give me +1 year of extended warranty and 90 days of accidental damage warranty. I don't trust Google to repair anything, even during the manufacturer warranty coverage period. Regarding OnePlus, I finance their phones. They have great customer service and extended warranty prices are reasonable.

Hi Thanks for your video Shane. I will really say you have been unlucky. Ive bought it used from a Danish site. It came from germany.a month in the screen cracked alot like yours. Ive send it back to Germany with warranty. They fixed it and it came back within two weeks. And have worked fine since. I really hope its just you that have been unlucky. I dont know if its worse with Google in USA than Europe but the service was fine here.

Yeah as you mentioned it is across the board a problem with all three providers of folding phones right now. I've had a previous z-fold 3 which took about a month to get resolved and lost a couple times as well at Samsung. I have had a repaired OnePlus open that took almost 2 months to just replace the internal film. It is certainly a weak point with this company regarding long lasting support on these devices. I even had the advanced Care solutions with both of those companies and still had this much struggle.

What I would do if I were you is send a letter to Google explaining your story to them but also add that you have a KZbin video site that reviews phones and tell them you will use your platform to send negative comments on their warranty process and how they handle repairs. Maybe they respond with apology and either fix or replace your phone.

Since I am part of their team pixel, they actually do keep at least light tabs on the channel. You'll occasionally see the official Google account comment on my videos. That being said, there's something about using that to get my phone fixed when other people wouldn't have that opportunity that just feels gross to me.

Its telling that a company as big as Google can't even repair a device that they make. They simply don't care once they get your money. I had a similar bad experience with a Pixel 7 Pro that kept overheating. I'll never buy another Google device.

This is stark contrast to Samsung. Had to send my Flip3 once before because of mic problem. They change the whole hinge assembly while on it because mine starting to misalign. Then I dropped my Fold5 on a pavements leaving dents all over the phone. They replaced it with a new one. Well, I am indeed in their Samsung Care+ program which kinda similar to insurance but I got it for free for 2 years as a perks from them. So all in all, IMO it’s Still count as a device warranty

thats very unlucky but kinda expected by such thin layer of flexible glass. glass is glass and still breaks, the thinner the glass layer the easier they tend to crack since its always under tension. sometimes it help to have a little note sticked to the device what the issue actually is & where to find the damage. (had kinda similiar experience but the shop called me in that case & asked whats the problem was cuz they dont see it on their software /interface.) dont expect them pull up the id from the website where the problem is & especially if it only says "broken screen or glass" (if its even stated there) they gonna open it & see a normal phone screen, wont need any further inspection. especially if u see the cracks only on an angle or light source shining on it.

WoW THAT IS UN-FREAKING-FORGIVEABLE!! Samsung screwed me HARD! S22 Ultra had a 2 phone trade in deal, they said they only received 1 Note10 Ultra instead of 2, I fought with them for 8 mos! 8 mos! AND STILL TO THIS DAY HAVE NOT RESOLVED IT! I THINK IT IS THEIR JOBS TO BE STUPID, SO THEY HAVE DENIABILITY!

If you used your MasterCard to purchase the phone, you might be able to get it replaced based on your warranty. I've used my MasterCard warranty a few times when a company has dropped the ball or if the company warranty expired within the year.

This exact situation is why people don't trust foldable devices. If these companies don't even hold up their end of the bargain as far as warranty goes then I hold out little hope that this particular market is going to grow and I would go as far as to say that the market will now shrink to the point that no one will trust them at a price point of around £1600 and it will be all these companies faults. They've brought it on themselves. Great vid sorry to hear you have went through basically same story as myself although in my case it was Samsung 👍
