Just imagine them being in 4K. Pretty unlikely considering the spread of 4K usage and the condition of some original tapes (especially S1-3) but I can still dream, right? As someone who has the majority of Complete Series DVDs I say they’re outdated. Not bad and definitely the best option currently but they could be so much better. For S1-5 for example a German dub option would be so nice as well (S6&7 were never released in Germany and the S8+ narrator doesn’t fit). It definitely requires some work on Mattel’s part. That’s the issue. But I’m sure Classic Thomas sells. It’s the perfect collector item.

It’s funny. Mattel is going all out marketing both Classic Barney, alongside their new “Barney’s World” Barney. Marketing to both the old fans as well as new ones through the new show. Makes me wonder why they can’t do the same more with Thomas? They have shown some potential with that one video showcasing both Classic/CG Thomas as well as AEG Thomas. Even the relaunch of Wooden Railways combines elements from both the old show as well as some of the new stuff. Come on, if it’s kinda working for Barney, why not Thomas?

I agree with your predictions, I believe that Duck with Donald And Douglas being in a AEG anniversary special is inevitable. If not officially by Mattel, then I still do see The Down The Mine test pilot being revealed at the 2025 Awdry Extravaganza. For the Marc Forster film (despite being silently in development for almost 5 years) I believe Mattel will give us an official update on the movie regarding its plot and casting with a release date for either 2026 or 2027.

I own every Thomas DVD release that has episodes from seasons 1-7, but I would love a full series DVD release. There are 4 Season 4 episodes that only ever released on VHS that I would like to have, and frankly, it would be fun to have the other DVDs anyway just for the box art, or to watch in smaller, more digestible increments

Realistically I think it’s just going to be nothing. Does it look like Mattel actually care. Like they turned Thomas into brain rot slops now does it look like they care. If they had care they wouldn’t have reboot the show in the first place and bring back a dead show. It will actually be a miracle if any of the sort from the official Thomas and Friend show will have any sort of content to be made.

I don't like AEG, but I'm happy that there are people out there who enjoy it. After all, these are still shows meant for kids about talking trains, so there's no point in getting upset over it. Guys, don’t kill me for this but I actually want a Magic Railroad remake, if you guys are tweeking out for this, then this problem is very simple to fix, You know the Through The Magic Buffers scene, yeah they should just bring back the animators for that scene and let them design the engines like Thomas in the Through The Magic Buffers scene and actually make Thomas a super form at the end and just beat up Diesel 10 and make his super form Gold Dust Thomas, so yeah and I’m excited for the 80th anniversary!

I hope for a Complete series Boxset as well, with Down the Mine and The Missing Coach in it. Thomas and Friends: The Movie (That is it’s actual title) won’t get more details announced for a while, as Masters of the Universe, Bob the Builder, and one or two other Mattel Films are being produced first, it is still coming though. I doubt the returning characters are for the anniversary. I’ve asked a writer about the reasoning of them prioritising old characters more than new ones, he basically said they have a budget to work with, so it’s cheaper to use existing designs and personalities than coming up with new ones. It’s annoying there’s some people thinking it’s for dumb key jangling, when the writers have expressed wanting them. But too be fair, I think most people would rather introduce the new generation to classic fan favourites instead of someone new. It would justify this being a Thomas show more if they tried to use what the past has established. Sorry that’s really long, and I hope I’m not offending, I wasn’t trying to. Since this is the first time an anniversary is celebrated with a new main version of the franchise, I cannot imagine how they will tackle it. I think a story will be similar The Royal Engine, with callbacks being more likely than a full-on retelling. I hope the writers do it well, they have before.
