I've got a bit of a Type R story myself. It all started back in the early 2000's when I first got into imports. Have wanted one in the worst way ever since. Initially I was committed to it having to be a legit Type R until about 5 years ago. A friend had found a trashed rhd converted 97 RS shell for sale. At the time, most of the actual chassis panels that are different were still available from Honda. So I bought it with intentions of doing the first documented FULL Type R conversion. Once i started digging deeper into the car I found that it was too far gone and the rhd conversion was severely botched. It was at this point that I cut the car up, saving the firewall and roof skin for a later project. To replace the RS I traded a civic hatch I had laying around for a silver 99 GS shell. At that point I bought a fresh front clip and abandoned the full type r conversion idea. I got the car into the mockup phase with a k swap and wound up having some issues with where the car was being stored, so as a back up plan I went a bought a black 98 GSR. Same as the one in this story, I bought it late at night and the next morning found some pretty heavy frame damage. After all this I wasn't gonna give up and decided, enough is enough, time to look for a legit Type R. So the search began, and I only found 4 online at the time. 2 were 98 Championship white, super rusty and like 25k. Then there was a black one at a dealer in NY. It was fairly clean and mostly stock besides a couple of JDM spec parts. I noticed that the Type R sticker on the tail light panel was in the wrong spot, which leads me to believe this is the Type R that ETCG bought not too long ago, depending on where he bought it from. They wanted 20k for it but wanted it in cash and wouldn't work with any finance options that were available. This left me with one last option. It was a 98 Championship white, theft recovery with 2 accidents on record. The car was k swapped and in really rough shape, but it was half the cost of anything else i could find and since it was so rough, I'd have no guilt building it my way. It now sits ready for paint after doing a full blown JDM conversion including the rhd. I cannot wait one bit to get it done and back on the road and track

Plenty or wrecked cars out there with clean titles. If the insurance never brands it, it's a clean title, even if it was wadded up into the size of a shoe box.

Yup. Unless it's totalled and gets a salvage or rebuilt title, its gonna have a clean title regardless of accidents. That's why you gotta carfax and see if anythings on there. But even then, you gotta take a close look at the vehicle itself because a lot of stuff doesnt get reported to carfax.

AC doesn't eat 100hp of the engine, that's bs, it will however eat 10/20hp at most, even so, from 195hp down even if 20hp your still in civic type R hp, for a car that weights just a bit more then 100kg then the type R civic, that's still pretty good, but who am I to argue...

. I bought my GS-R in 1993. It was a left-over 92' in Teal (Aztec Green), paid $15,500 out the door. Mine was one-of-four 92s' in our small town. (2-white, 1-red, 1-teal) . I red-lined it every day, at every single red light I could, at least through 3rd gear. Oil change every 3k. CV joints, water pump, timing belt, and other maintenance every 60k miles New clutch and suspension at 93k New radiator at 98k A/C fixed at 103k Sold it to my best friend back on 2005 with 198k on it. Still ran like it was on rails. My buddy had it repainted (same color) because the clear coat was dead from the Florida sun. 3 months after he bought it, it was stolen from his house, and he was a cop. They found the frame, in a raid later that month. . God, I have SO MANY great memories and stories with that car. RIP. I'll never forget you. Teal Terror 1992 - 2006

98 ITR owner here. It’s the second one I have owned. I paid double for the second one three years apart. Both mine have had no AC (optional dealer add on in Canada for all years). I wouldn’t say 100hp power loss but certainly it’s added weight and will sap some power. It’s true they aren’t great on the highway. I stick to back roads fun. I agree that the ITR is similar to GT3. It is that fun and responsive to drive. Of course the GT3 is faster and more capable. I know two owners in my province who own both 997 GT3 RS and ITR. That should say something.

I’ve had everything from 100 Chasers, R34s, R32s, A80 Supra’s and S2000s but the DC2 Type R was by far my favorite of the bunch and to this day I regret selling it. I’m scheming as we speak to pick up a DC5 Type R just to scratch the itch and since DC2s are now unjustifiable with the price. I paid $3500 for mine in 2013 here in Japan. Now at 25k for a 260k km example it’s just not doable.

In 2002 I drove my ‘00 Integra Type R on a 5000 mile trip from TN to CA and back. Stock, the interior noise level is really not bad. You’re at about 4000 rpm at 70 and 4400 rpm at 80. When the engine is built with an 8400 rpm redline, cruising at 4400 isn’t like doing that in a car with a 6000 rpm redline. I would do that trip again. Oh yeah, and no cruise control in the ITR!

My Integra story: (if you're in the Seattle area, you might have seen this car recently) My family had always been Honda - Mom has only driven MDXs for the past 20 years, dad's had his share of Accord coupes, and the entire extended family guaranteed had Honda Pilots and TLs. I was late to the game for my License, got it at 22. One I got it, naturally I was on the hunt for cars. My roommate was a Honda guy as well, so I began looking at Hondas online. I wanted to work on It myself and it seemed wise to get a car he was able to help me with. I also wanted to learn manual so the list immediately became narrowed down to Integras GSRs. Eventually I found a 2001 GSR about 3 hours away, at some sketchy looking buy here pay here lot. As I looked at the photos I became more intrigued. It was ''Titanium Metallic" on Beige, 4-door, GSR. Essentially brown on brown grandpa spec! Possibly do to the spec, the car was unmodified except for the wheels. This had me very excited, I wanted a relatively clean GSR and that was nearly impossible to find. This one even had the stock shifter knob and radio. As I did more research, I found that YR-578M paint code was only used on Integras on 2001 sedans. (It was on other Hondas though) I also found a Jalopnik NP/CP article about this EXACT CAR!. After I did my search, immediatelyVINspecimen weather, I couldn't see where it had been keyed and scratched in a few spots.Someintegras, and in-person I really liked the color. It was my first time negotiating on a car and it seemed within reason for this condition of GSR. At least to me, it was worth it. After taking it home we started finding problems. There was literally a bush inside the inner bumper, it had even made its way to the AC blower inside the car. Clearing this out fixed the AC. 5th gear grinded pretty hard when you shifted in, some Syncromesh fixed this. The car had been re-keyed! As to be expected I guess. the Ignition used the key we were given, but it turns out all the other locks in the car were different! I called up the dealer and they said "sure, we'll send you that key with the plates"..... ok. We should have checked that, now I know for next time. I pulled all the lock cylinders in the car and had them rekeyed to match the ignition key. We also did a full timing belt and clutch service. Looked like the flywheel was resurfaced with sand paper! Luckily it was still within spec, had a machine shop do damage control and we put a new Exedy clutch in. The headlights were aftermarket 'angel eyes' unfortunately. Once I wired them in correctly I decided to leave them, they worked fine and are brighter than a faded set of OEM ones anyway. The car was finally sorted and I really enjoyed it for a few years, sold it mid 2020 after my 2007 Acura RL was totaled. Now I'm in a 2013 Ford Flex EcoBoost. Here's what happened after sorting it: I put a Skunk2 short shifter on it with poly linkage pushing. We finally got it on a lift and did poly rear trailing arm bushings and Tein StreetBasis coilovers. Our first time looking at it on a lift, it was super clean underneath, all the other bushings were in good shape too. I found brand new floor mats for it on eBay, in the same beige color, that was a pretty rare find. I swapped the shifter for a wooden RL one. The car had that OEM+ look now on the inside. I left the Intake alone, it already a cold air intake.... I drove it to work one morning and this TSX in was stopped in front of me at a red light. It rolled back onto me and flattened the front end! The Integra is already a wedge shape up front, but the car was lower than normal because of the coilovers. So it slipped under the bumper of the TSX, which came out unscathed from this event. Thankfully the only things damaged were the front bumper, headlights, Hood, and radiator support. The car still ran and drove fine, no leaks! Now I had a decision to make, do I go JDM front end... I liked the idea of having a JDM front, left-hand drive, 4-Door GSR in this weird OEM color, felt exclusive. It was like some weird alternate reality spec car. I bought the JDM front cut online and did the swap myself during Christmas vacation. The cut was even off of a JDM DB8, so that blue plate on the JDM radiator support matches the chassis code, even better! Then took it to a body shop to get it welded and do the panel alignment. Now the car was half white half gold.... I didn't have the skills or the correct environment to paint it, and prices I was getting quoted were nuts. I ended up keeping that way until selling it. Gave the car to my old roommate in Seattle to help me sell it. (A lot easier to sell it there vs where I was at.) He knows that car as well as I do, best person for the job. It sold within 24 hours, potentially thanks to that stimulus money! From what my friend told me, the guy arrived with his friend in a Civic sedan IN THE SAME COLOR! Sounded like the guy planned to get the front painted and daily the car. Hearing this story made me feel like the car went to the right person. Hopefully the car is still doing well, I loved that thing. I'm still torn on the front end though. Because I never saw the JDM front end painted, it all my favorite pictures are pre-accident. It really grew on me through nostalgia. If I get another Integra, I'll look for a facelift model and keep the USDM front.

Are we at that point now where every Honda, Nissan, or Toyota from the 80s or 90s is referred to as "jdm"? Rabbit had a video a few weeks back and he called a usdm 280z "jdm" and now this, there's a hashtag in the title that says JDMcars. I figured guys like Rob and Ed knew better than that.

I used to have a 94 LS and the motor blew and I then swapped to the b18c1 with a type-r lsd transmission. I think the perfect intergra would be a b20z motor with an lsd transmission. I was never a fan of the drawbacks of the v-tec engines having to run premium fuel and the reality that you don't really spend that much time in the range that v-tec makes power.

It doesn’t, he’s exaggerating 😉. Running the a/c does sap some power when the compressor clutch engages. On a 4 cylinder engine it’s more noticeable than on a big V8.

Holy smokes, I remember when my girlfriend in college got her type R brand new in 2000 and I thought it was so awesome. Would have never imagined that it would be worth more now than it was then. And yes, it was horrible on the highway. I went deaf driving that thing cause we kept it at 5000 rpm’s quite regularly. Lol

Definitely a worthy car to go on a quest for. Such iconic styling on these. I had tried to look at non-Type R here, and the seller had swapped instrument clusters, but had a note written on his phone with the original mileage that was "100% correct". Seemed legit.... Don't worry. I didn't buy it.
