This song is very special to me. My family are from West Virginia. My grandparents were poor coal miners. When my parents retired, they went back to WV. Last November, my mama contracted the coronavirus. Being in poor health, she ended up on a ventilator. She lasted 45 days then passed away. I am a disabled United States Marine Corps veteran and was not able to go up to WV and visit her. Her last few days were filled with agony and despair. She died January 4th, and I'm still messed up about how she went, but my Christian faith tells me that I will see my mama again.

Great reaction! I agree with you - from country to patriotic to contemporary to humorous, I have never heard a bad song form Home Free. You have listened to enough of their music that you should have a good idea of each singer's 'normal' range and style. Many years ago my mother, brother and sister (Americans) were living in England and they met John Denver through a mutual acquaintance while he was in London. John joined them for dinner one evening in their modest home near Churt, south of Farnham. Unfortunately I wasn't there but sounds like he was a pleasure to have as a guest. John Denver's version will always be the beloved classic but as is so often the case I must say Home Free's creation may well be my favorite now.

I grew up listening to John Denver's songs. But I feel Home Free took this one to another level for me. It is one of my favorite covers of this song. I love everything about it. It is a masterpiece. Individually they are super talented but when they come together as a group it is perfection!

COUNTRY ROADS It's about the Shenandoah Valley which lies between the mountains and hills of West Virginia and the Blue Ridge mountains to the East which is in virginia and North Carolina... So I would say this song is pretty much all the side roads along interstate 81 between between the Pennsylvania border in your border all the way down to to Chattanooga Tennessee

Every time I hear them sing this song I tear up and become sad. My dad is from West Virginia and every other year I would go there for a month and visit my relatives. I love the the state for its scenery and the people, especially those in small rural areas. I enjoyed eating and shopping a small mom and pop places. I even extended my vacation one year and was there 3 months. I live in Florida and not able to go there anymore. To me the true south is from the Virginia and West Virginia to Georgia. Florida is in the south but doesn't have the true south atmosphere but great sites.

My two girls and I love this song (original from John Denver). We live in Virginia and go to the blue ridge mountains and Shenandoah River a few times a year to swim, kayak, canoe…white water raft. This song hits ME in the “feels” :)

I remember a few years ago a lady from the U.K. came over and spent a week or two riding around America in a semi truck ( you guys call them Lori I think but ours are much different) with a couple from near where I live in Iowa. ( from what I remember from the article I read) she was amazed by the vast amount of unused land we have. If you're coming to the south, ya gotta try some catfish and real " sweet tea" ( not iced tea with sugar but actual sweet tea)

You are a country girl at heart. You and Donovan would fit right in here in the States...British accent and all. :-) You really really need to react to Hillbilly Bone by Home Free - and one of their newest songs Aint Goin Down (Till the Sun Comes Up). You would absolutely adore each song -- no hype. Hillbilly Bone is also about as funny as is gets. I leave you on a funny note: My dad worked with a retired military officer who spent some time in Australia. He met and fell in love with a pretty, down-to-earth Ausy gal and married her - she was about 20 years younger than him. They became good friends with my dad and mom. At one get together at my parent's house, (I was an undergrad at the time and still lived at my parents house), the Ausy gal (let's call her Ann) brought up a funny story about getting use to living in the states. She had run out of erasers for her journaling and sketching (she liked to use pencils), so she went to the local grocery store to pick up several items including the erasers. Now she explained that in Australia, and actually in all nations that speak British English, an eraser is usually called a rubber. She couldn't find the rubbers, so when she got to the register she naturally asked the clerk where the rubbers were. There were several other clerks and customers within hearing distance when she asked. Well the female clerk got a bit red in the face and sheepishly told her that they were in the Pharmaceutical Dept. Ann then asked why would rubbers/erasers be located there and the clerk finally explained to her what she had actually asked for...Note: in the US, the term rubbers is usually only used to refer to condoms. Now it was Ann's turn to get red and put her hands over her face. :-)

They are the third leg of the acapella trifecta (along with PTX and Home Free), and are just as incredibly talented. Each of the groups have their own unique style, and Voice Play's is a little more theatrical (often utilizing make, sets and costumes - but not always). They are wonderfully entertaining
