I was at a Bee Gees concert in 78 or 79 in Chicago just after Saturday Night Fever and Andy Gibb performed with them. Just thinking it had to be more than 1 concert he performed with them?

That's actually 1979 Spirit Tour. Depending on the video, it was from the Oakland Colliseum. Oakland California. I was there. Amazing concert. My mom took my sister and I. I was 19. Best concert I've ever seen. Andy was brought on for the last song. I'm so glad I was blessed to see them

Andy and Maurice were singing in the same microphone. Barry always sang solo on his own microphone standing on the right of the stage. Robin was in the middle and Andy and Maurice were on the left. A Bee Gees love song could have been the inspiration for you.
@allisons36633 жыл бұрын
That was Maurice and Andy on the same mic, but this was a 1979 concert clip when Andy joined them on stage for this song. There was no original promotional film done back in 1976 for this song, so someone put this video together using live footage and scenes from Saturday Night Fever, done very well I might add.

I don’t care if you like disco or not......this song makes you want to get up and dance! The songs from SNF were made and recorded before the BGs were asked to do the soundtrack and I think that’s a pretty cool thing!

I was a "dancing fool" during the time of disco and the Bee Gees! Like any woman who had a pulse, Barry Gibb was "the" man who had it all: Looks, voice, sexy-cool style. You bet he made the heart race - What a fabulous era when the Gibb brothers ruled the music charts and how lucky those of us were who heard these classic songs for the first time. I still have my 1979 Barry Gibb "Spirits Having Flown" poster!

@mssharmony3 жыл бұрын
@@lisac7965 I was 15 when I saw them. It was my first time going to a concert and the only time I ever saw The Bee Gees...they never came back to my city. I blame it on all of the "Disco sucks" morons that derailed the Bee Gees' career. The thing that bugs me is now these people are in their 50's and 60's and they're saying, "you know, the Bee Gees are actually pretty good". I can only wonder what songs they would have written if North Americans hadn't turned their backs on them. I too was crazy about Barry and Andy and I'm one year older than you. So yes, you were 14 if you saw the same tour as I did.
@lisac79653 жыл бұрын
@@mssharmony so sad to think about, but you're totally right what could have been the Bee Gees, it was because of the Disco sucks, late late seventies. HBO just did a great documentary on the Bee Gees, how do you mend a broken heart, it goes into this backlash in the late seventies. What could have been? They layed low from many years. They started writing songs for more artists around that time also. They, will always be my favorite band of all time. On Twitter there's a BG fan club. I love it, also and Andy gibb , biographer that I follow. I literally listen to them still everyday. Bee Gees forever here. I'm a BG fanaticthat's a good question you put in my head today. What could have been? We lost all three of them way too young.
@mssharmony3 жыл бұрын
@@lisac7965I've seen the trailer for the Documentary but I don't have HBO. Hopefully Netflix or Amazon Video will pick it up soon. I got rid of cable TV a couple of years ago. I'll have to check out the fan club. And what is the name of the biographer? And I wouldn't have believed it if anyone would have told me 3 out of the 4 brothers would be dead by the time I was in my late 40's. I feel so sad for Barry. They were so close and shared things that only each other could understand. And what great and prolific song writers they were. When you think about the fact that the same guys that wrote, Their song catalog is incredible. And their music is still relevant. People our age are truly blessed to have grown up with such great music. I'm enjoying Barry's new album of Country artist covering the Bee Gees songs, though nothing compares to the originals.

Yes, Chad, I admit it. I was in that audience. (21 years old.) That was during the "Spirits Having Flown" tour in 1979. I thought it was tremendously expensive at $15! (Think of what concerts cost these days!) We were seated at the other end of a large arena, and we shamelessly used binoculars to try and see the guys' panty lines under those tight silver pants. I was also admiring Robin's bright red flowing locks. (And I was so disappointed when, years later, Barry joked about how Robin dyed his hair to march his Irish Setter dog!) Oh, that John Travolta dance from Saturday Night Fever --- one of the big things at that time was for guys to learn that dance. Oh,, the memories this clip stirs up.

Let me tell you how it really was, most of us were in the "Rock and Roll will never die" club, the Bee Gees started out Rock and Roll but were considered Disco at the height of their career doing the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, which pretty much started Disco-techs all around the world. It wasn't "cool" to listen to Disco, Disco sucks was what everyone said, So it wasn't 'cool' to listen to the Bee Gee's, BUT when their songs came on the radio, EVERYONE could sing every word to them. They did break the mold, and that's how it really was then.

This would be the movie Saturday Night Fever the movie and song that slung Jon Travolta on the map and super stardom. The BeeGees little brother Andy Gibb sang on this song but was a star himself as a solo career. Sadly the two brother not the lead singer have passed RIP and Andy passed back back in the 80's from a drug overdose which the 3 older brothers never got over. I was a professional dancer as a kid back in the 70's and would win dance club dance off's to this song same dance as your watching in clubs that looked just like this. There will never be an Era like this again nothing but love amd true hearts! Great react guys 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Everyone gets lured in by the great rhythms, instrumentation, lyrics, etc. but then they start chasing the hook. Every song has that catchy hook that is usually the title to the song. Once you get that line, “Blamin’ it all”, its over! You’re hooked. And the Maurice falsetto is just another one of those fun, catchy quirks. When I listen to this song, I sometimes sing Maurice’s part during the chorus, sometimes Barry’s part.

As a dancer, I can tell You that those "knee moves" (that John Travolta did...) are not only difficult, they're an invitation to severe injuries... He was in excellent shape in this movie - however, those knees don't care about that. If they feel like messin' with ya', they will... It's not for nothing that the equation states; "Athlete + Artist = Dancer"... (The performance You watched of the four brothers was filmed in Houston, Texas, back in the day...💕💃)

If you want to react to the live version, look for THE BEE GEES WITH ANDY GIBB “YOU SHOULD BE DANCING” LIVE 1979 (Reelin in the Years Archive). It’s almost 7 minutes long and great. Toward the end, Andy moves from sharing a mic with Maurice to Barry and you can hear him. Also, notice the scars on Barry’s chest. When he was a toddler, his mom sat a tea pot on the table to steep and he tugged on the table cloth and pulled it onto himself. Had an extensive stay in the hospital, some time in a coma, and at one point was only given 20 minutes to live. Gives a whole new meaning to Stayin’ Alive!!
