The first month of growth of my Sea-Monkeys (Days 1-30 )
In this video I show how to set up a sea monkey ocean volcano tank and document their growth over the first month. I use macro lenses and a microscope to show a time lapse of their development as they grow out in their tank. I give some tips for keeping them alive and show how much they grow in a week and a month until they are fully grown. Soon I will also show videos of the magic castle and mars sets.

Hi! I received my sea monkeys a few days a go , and started the volcano tank yesterday, I followed your instructions and they are alive! *my package #2 was ruined and thought it was not going to work , but it did! * thank you !! (A little tip I can give is that with a pice of clothe or a new sock fill it with rice and sew it up , you put it on the microwave and its going to be warm so with a towel wrap it up around your tank it works so well. :)

@@pico-cosmos I used to! I have a sea monkey on mars tank that i had a nice little colony in about a year ago (now its been cleaned and sits empty. And while i was cleaning it i broke off the little astronaut, rip buddy). Unfortunately they had passed away, more like wiped out, by what i think was bacteria. I had remembered seeing these little white puffs in their water. It freaked me out so i tried removing as much as i could, but they kept coming back. If i remember correctly, they only lasted about 6 months :( im excited to try again soon, hopefully ill have a long lasting little shrimy family! And thank you so much for replying! Thats super super cool of you!! :D

@@nikopanchi1332 Ah yeah that's a common issue with the little astronaut! I've not had the mars tank before but I've seen a lot of people say he breaks off easily. Those little white cotton balls in your tank are the discarded exoskeletons from your sea-monkeys, so they're harmless :) I believe one of the old instruction manuals said they were a type of harmful bacteria, but it's just a misconception. Brine shrimp shed their exoskeletons every few days so my tanks are covered in that white fluff

Awesome footage... Love the microscope video, the best close up footage I've seen of sea monkeys. I've kept neocaradina shrimp in the past, the mother fans the eggs to oxygenate them, I'm guessing it's similar for the brine shrimp. Neocaradina need a lot of oxygen actually, if you don't run a pretty strong bubbler it can end poorly 😢

Great video because of you I started sea monkey again 😄 but one thing about the heat mat is it can’t keep up with the cold. I ordered the vivosun heat mat with thermostat and set the temp to 75 degree. It’s constantly heating and even that it wasn’t manage to warm up the water in the tank at all. The tank water will be 60f while the mat can only manage 65 top. I never try the usb heater because of how clunky it look in the sea monkey tank but I will definitely skip the heat mat.

It doesn't seem like they bother each other but there's one kinda aggressive(? It gets in other's way alot. I don't know that's how he play or should I remove him?). Thank you so much in advance.

Sorry to bother you again but, I'm a bit worried. I just noticed some sort of substance growing in my tank its thick clear white and jelly like and when I tried disturbing it more came lose from else where in the tank , which has a bit of a green tinge. I only just started my tank 4 days ago, so i'm assuming this isn't algae, but probably mold of some sort . =( could this be algae ? should I feed them if it seems something is suspended in their water. Sorry to bother you again, but I just got so depressed seeing that, I knew mold was a problem but I never thought it would happen that quickly. Thanks for all your time spent responding ! Hi Jon, I’m planning to buy the same tank (Ocean Volcano). I’m wondering if the salinity of the tank would be less since the same number of packets are spread across a larger volume of water. Do you think this would be an issue-and should I buy another set without the tank to double the packets? Thanks for your time!
@pico-cosmos
@pico-cosmos Жыл бұрын
Hey Erica :) Yes the salinity of this tank will be slightly lower than the others because of its larger size, but it doesn't cause any problems. Sea-Monkeys can live in a VERY wide salinity range, so they're still fine in the ocean volcano. The Sea-Monkey growth food packet also has some salt in it too, so generally speaking the salinity of your tank will slowly increase over time as you continue to feed them.

A change in altitude won't affect your Sea-Monkeys unless the new location is significantly colder. I'd suggest you just leave them where they are though - feed them some growth food just before you leave and I'm sure they'll still be fine for a week while you're gone. I once left mine for 4 months and there were still some alive when I got back 😅

I finally hatched a sea monkey colony. I've been spending all my spare time the last few days staring at them ! so much so I may have started going cross eyed. I have a very important question though. When should I feed them ? Today is day three after hatching, I aerate the tank twice a day and for a few minutes each time, they are getting pretty big and are very lively. I'm afraid to suffocate them but I don't want them to starve and die. Should I feed the a quarter scoop ? Please help ! Also thank you so much for keeping the Sea monkey community going strong ! Sea Monkeys have become my favorite pet. Getting lost in their miniature aquatic world is so relaxing, and the idea of raising them from eggs to fully sustaining colonies in their own ecosystem is amazing ! So much fun ! except I think I really am going cross eyed. I now understand the struggle of watching sea monkeys through a cylindrical tank !

Aren’t you supposed to let the water purifier (packet 1) work for 24 hours before adding the eggs (packet 2)??
@Montessori_Motherhood

So I noticed you fed them on day 3 not 5 which the sea monkey packet says. I usually have a bunch die by day 5, is it possible they starve to death and waiting 5 days is just to long? Do you think it’s okay to ass phytoplankton in the beginning as well?

Hey I got some of these and they just hatched and they’re swimming around but they’re only swimming at the bottom of the tank they’re not going anywhere near the top or halfway what am I doing wrong
@pico-cosmos
@pico-cosmos 2 жыл бұрын
They’re attracted to light when they first hatch, perhaps there’s a light source that’s quite low down? It doesn’t really matter if they’re at the bottom tbh, it’s not anything to worry about as long as they’re swimming well :) Try putting a lamp on top of the tank if you want them to swim towards the top

I've heard that the growth food pack has sea monkey eggs is that true? Also my colony isn't super healthy I think I've given them too much food and some of the adults have passed away.
@pico-cosmos
@pico-cosmos 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve had a look at the food under the microscope and I couldn’t see any eggs in there. There could be some though 🤷‍♂️ yeah it’s best to only do very small feedings because it’s suuper easy to overfeed them. How old is your tank?

Hi Artemia daddy, I have some bad news today, a lot of my sea monkeys are dying , I followed all the instructions on this vid, its day 42 I still feed them as you said and they are still not fully grown, they had the black spot disease, today my largest male sea monkey died , I already used the turtle block but I think is not working and i dont know what to do maybe move them to another tank? (I have available another official sea monkey tank magic castle) i really need advise … thank you.
@pico-cosmos
@pico-cosmos Жыл бұрын
Hmm I’m sorry to hear that. it sounds like you may have put a little too much of the turtle block into your tank :/ if your Sea-Monkeys aren’t full size after 42 days it’s likely that your tank is too cold. Are you sure it’s above 20°C? I’m not sure if moving them into another tank will help as the water likely has too many minerals in it from the turtle block

Oh so I could take put some of the water and dilute it with pure water? And another question… do I have to take out the poop? Its because i think it sinks and mixes with food and they eat it….
@pico-cosmos
@pico-cosmos Жыл бұрын
@@SunflowerGirl012 I wouldn't dilute the water because it's important not to change the salinity too significantly. You can remove the poop if you want to but it doesn't really matter. I usually just leave it in there

what do you feed them if you can get them to live for awhile? that being you run out of the packet of food they give you.
@pico-cosmos
@pico-cosmos Жыл бұрын
There are a few options - most people feed them dried algae powders such as spirulina, but I personally grow live microaglae to feed them. I made a tutorial that explains it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYW1nWuZqpydosU
