Popping in to celebrate. After just over a month of 16:8 with two 24-36hr. Fasts: 1. Inflammation is down. No excruciating cramps. 2. Weight check-in this morning: under 140 for the first time in 2 years. (5'2). BF% dropping. Lean mass holding. So glad I gave IF a try.

@@milling37 I try to eat mostly whole home cooked food. Example: Breakfast around 11 is an omelette with whatever veggies I have on hand. Sometimes bacon and a little cheese. Lunch around 3 if I'm hungry is reheated leftovers from the previous night. Dinner last night was ground beef and rice rolled into balls baked with chopped winter squash and spaghetti sauce. On my long fast, I have been having beef stock at dinner or while preparing dinner for my family. Some weeks I eat dinner with the family and make it a OMAD day.

Yes this is the way to go. Take your time. I find that if you don’t detox from the sugar and refined carbs and/or go too long on the fasting period then it’s like you are on diet and are starving yourself. Doing that is the complete opposite of what Autumn explains in her programs and videos. What I like about Autumn’s IF and Nutrient Timing is that it is sustainable. Binge watching or listening to Autumn’s videos is very supportive too. Thank you Autumn for this video as always… I’m running out of words to express how grateful I am to you for developing what you explain right here in this video… you’re amazing!! 👍😘🇨🇦❤️🤓

What you are really need is determination, I am 71 old woman jump straight in the fasting, just had one meal in 24 hours. Unfortunately sometimes it was only 22 hours. To keep up I drunk black coffee. To make sure I could last long with out food I eat lots of protein. When I felt very hungry before time I just kept vrry busy. It work great I started to lose weight after 24 hours. It wasn't easy but I don't have time I could drop dead tomorrow and I do not wan't my coffin be too heavy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There's a lot to be said for a hardcore approach.I found reaching the 72 hour dry-fast ,with full immunity re-set therein ,worked best for me but i don't think there's a case for doing these too often unless aiming for those precious stem-cells to tackle specific ailments like diabetes etc.They really kick in after 72 hours and do their repair thing. I'm a fanatic OMAD'er with occasional 36 and 48 extensions thrown in with all the incredible benefits that occur within those timeframes.The liberation from morning hunger is for me, a liberating situation .Seeing huge overall improvements physical and psychological.

Thank you SO MUCH for explaining all this (in this video and many others)! So many people think it's just limiting your eating window, but it's so so much more than that, and with anything, it's important to actually UNDERSTAND what is happening within your body during that time. Plus the acknowledgement that not all bodies are the same or will respond the same way is an important consideration to keep in mind as well. Thank you so much for being an excellent IF leader! 😄

I started eating low carb in the beginning, then transitioned into intermittent fasting 16/8, 18/6, 20/4, OMAD, extended fasts, 2, 3, and up to 4 days. I lost 80lbs in 5 months. I used to only care about the net carbs, now I mostly eat meat and fresh vegetables. If it was made in a factory, I generally don't eat it. The only exception is I will drink a diet drink, mostly the flavored sparkling water from Walmart, Dollar General, and Aldi. I have lost all I want to lose, and I go back and forth between intermittent fasting and fasting when my weight creaps back up 5 lbs or so to eating more and hitting the gym more to build muscle. My weight is staying between 162 to 167 for the last 6 weeks. I'll gain a little while building muscle, then I lose to lean out. Doing this is helping me get rid of the body fat and gradually add muscle. It may not work for everyone, but it has changed my life. It has been 6 months since I started at 250 lbs. At one time I was in the high 280s.

I'm doing keto and if since Jan this, year. I didn't start really trying to add exercise until I think may. I spent a year weaning out things in my diet. I have a tandem goal of fat loss body recomp with improving overall health and reversing some major health issues. I have hoshimotoes. It's caused gut health probs, malnutrition probs, digestive ph probs, and insulin resistance in tge form of hypoglycemia. That's just the tip of tge icebirg of how much it harmed my body and health. I also have 3 majir psych diagnosis and all three have some boughts of depression and this has helped with that too. I started with a 50g net carb limit variation of keto with a 12:12 fast routine. That was in Jan. I'm currently doing a 35 g carb limit and feel going lower would be unsafe for me because I've tried the 20 g carb limit and got a er trip from a glucose drop for tge effort. My current fast routine I'm trying to stick with is a 16:8 routine though I've had insomnia probs from life stress making my sleep erratic so I can't always stick with it. I'm doing a 2mad meal structure no snacks. When I started I was doing 2-3 meals and maybe one snack. Some days I did 2eaks no snack some I did 3 meals and one snack. It depended on my hunger that day. I am strictly 2mad now unless I'm super sick and then I split my second meal into 2 to rest. I eat the same macros and cals and still fix 2 meals but eat the second in 2 sitting instead of one. I recently started upping my game with my excercise because I when I started adding it in may was doing walks. Now those I'm not finding challenging enough so I got a resistance training set with a push up board, a set of 2 pound dumb bells, and 2 sets of 2 pound ankle/wrist weights. I looked up on you tube dumbell workouts and found a couple good ones by personal trainers that are full body workouts. I'm right now using a workout done by a male trainer on his top 8 exercises using dumb bells some of which incorporate squats. I've only done it twice so far and the first time I overdid it considering I hurt fir days after on my outer thigh muscles in tge front. I'd never done a squat in my life and I over did it. I took off exercise for 4 days behind that and when I wanted to get back to it I ended up sick for over a week. I just restarted exercise yesterday by walking and today did another dumb bell work-out. Thus time instead of a max of 10-15 min I managed a full 30 min work-out and am minorly sore mostly in my upper arms. Though I'm sure my legs will be burning tomorrow. I'm working on baba stepping upping my excersise just like I did with keto and if. I guess I did do all the things listed in tge video but on a much slower time-frame. Btw, my start weight pre any changes was between 260-270 pounds. My goal is 130. My current weight is182.2. That's after almost 2 years of changes and almost 10 months of keto and if. In Jan this year I was at 229 ppunds btw. So while my progress is slow I'm quite oroud of it despite and spijes and stalls I've had along tge way

I didn't even explore going into Intermittent Fasting, I just jumped into it. I mean I wasn't overweight when I went into it, it just synchronized better with my daily life schedule. Frankly speaking, I've had serious stress issues and IF has helped me dramatically. At some point where I detoxed from caffeine yes, I was off caffeine from like August 2020 to like April of 2022, there was that stress at some point of me starving for caffeine. Nowadays, I'll just have my morning cup of coffee and a stevia coke perhaps but certainly no more caffeine after 2 pm. I've tried quite a variety of teas lately. I'm giving Linden tea a go. When I am bloated or constipated, I've realized it's psychological and I am not really carb sensitive, yet I do follow a balanced approach to my nutrition, adequate amount of protein, carbs and fat. Cheers.

Great advice. I've already detox from sugar and refined carbs and I'm ready for the next phase. I'm a breakfast person so my eating window stops between 4 and 6 p.m. Makes it hard to resist nighttime snacks. Working towards adjusting my breakfast time by having a Keto coffee around 8 a.m. so I can push back breakfast a few more hours. I really want this to work mainly for my T2D and losing about 15 pounds wouldn't hurt either. My doctor is encouraging and that helps alot. Keep it up girl. Love your videos.

i might add some additional goals here, the first being mastery of hunger (which can get real when you’re starting out), followed by optimizing your diet. reason being, it’s harder to get your food choices under control before you’ve recalibrated your hunger response, and learning how to eat properly is a long incremental process of small improvements and substitutions.

This gradual continuum approach that Autumn speaks about in this video is CRUCIAL. I jumped into intermittent fasting back in 2018 while eating anything I wanted in my eating window without this kind of “ease-in” approach and focus on protein/fat/fiber. I was very loose in my eating window. I had intermittent fasting success and lost a lot of weight the first year and half on this approach but then my hormones got out of wack because I was listening to men and how they fast and I started to GAIN weight on INTERMITTENT FASTING. I struggled for 3 YEARS and I was so confused as to why it wasn’t working anymore. So, after struggling for those years on my own, I found Autumn, who helped me to understand what had happened to me as a woman in her mid-40s with my hormones. The way I had been fasting had made things worse for me hormonally. I struggled with taking Autumn’s advice (as well as Dy Ann Parham and Dr. Mindy Pelz’s advice) for 1.5 years because I couldn’t believe/apply what they were saying to me about how things had to transform with my fasting, fitness and feasting. I had to work on my MINDSET first and work on releasing old habits. I got heavier than ever because I was slow to learn and kept trying things that my ego thought would work or things that used to work for me when my cells and hormones were healthier when I was younger. And so I finally stopped playing around, humbled myself, did some deep reflection and prayer, and made a commitment to re-set. I stopped fasting altogether and started AGAIN just like Autumn recommends here. I took things step-by-step over 100 days while getting back into it and following these principles. Now, finally, IF and low-carb living are all working for me again and I am seeing body fat and weight loss. Grateful for you Autumn!!! Thank you for all that you are doing to educate people on how to achieve their wellness and weight loss goals.

Probably it's from low blood-sugar, either 1) you're not getting enough food overall, or 2) you're not eating a well-balanced diet. Not to be confused with "A Diet". IF isn't dieting, you don't eat less, you eat less often. If you're doing OMAD, chances are good you aren't getting enough. Maybe if you're interested in trying again, do 12/12, and focus on eating the right kinds of food, and enough volume, which should sustain you during your fasting part of the day. Autumn has lots of videos about it. :)

Being organised is key. If you have to stand and stare at the pantry or fridge trying to think of something to eat or realising you don’t have the ingredients chances are you’ll opt for something quick from a can or a packet, take out or a fast food restaurant. Hi Molly! I have some clients who use meal delivery services (some are definitely better than others), but I haven't tried any of the "custom" delivery meal plan options. I personally prefer making the choice to customize it myself by picking the meal delivery service that fits my clients goals.

So what does a “gaining muscle” intermittent fast look like versus “lose weight”?
@celticlass8573
@celticlass8573 2 жыл бұрын
That's what she referrers to as "body re-composition". You don't want to just weigh yourself, because if you gain muscle, it will still show up as weight. But you WANT to gain muscle, partly because it's just a good idea, but also because muscle continues to burn calories after exercise, and so increases your overall metabolism. With IF, you don't eat less, you eat less often, so the idea is to get enough of what you need (particularly getting enough protein, but eating a well-balanced diet--not to be confused with "A Diet") in your eating window, which then also keeps you satiated during the fast part of your day. Eating enough nutrient-dense food is VERY important, and lots of people fall into the trap of "oh I'll just skip breakfast and then eat during 4 hours" but that's a LOT of food to shovel in over a very short time! The trap is also that "more extreme is better" which isn't the case. Also, if you're not eating enough, your body will break down your muscle to fuel itself, which is pretty much the opposite of what you want, AND not eating enough messes with you metabolism, making it harder to achieve your goals.
@AutumnBates
@AutumnBates 2 жыл бұрын
Typically those looking to gain muscle will want a slightly longer eating window to allow for getting enough nutrient needs in (especially protein). With my athlete clients, I've found a good range to be a 14-16 hour fast, but that also can vary depending on the person and their goals.

Hi Autumn, quick question about walking. I walk for more than two months now, and almost everyday. I eat healthy. Am not losing any weights. instead, I gain one pound. My all body hurts. I stretch before and after, and drink water. Does it take more times to shed those pounds?

Hi Bay! Walking is one important factor, but I would take a closer look at your eating window as well. There might be some foods that aren't working for your body or holding you back from achieving your goals. Anything with calories in your coffee would break a fast and therefore interfere with autophagy. True, fat has less effect than carbs but still an interruption.

Technically fats won't disrupt autophagy because it doesn't raise insulin. Although it DOES stop the MMC (gut cleaning pathway), so it just depends on what your goals are with IF.

Intermittent fasting is routine centered you have to like or get acclimated to not eating breakfast and drink black coffee. I eat just as much but limit the window to 8 hours a day and it works to maintain your metabolism for the most part. Just don’t over eat and or drink a ton of alcohol and your good you get stronger and keep a trim build.

It depends on how difficult the exercise is. I would definitely first start with the eating window rather than jumping straight into IF. Typically weight gain after stopping IF is a sign that the eating window hasn't been addressed.

This discussion should always be framed as body re-composition. Weight is an extremely poor way to judge health as weight can change in many ways that are not helpful to the human body, much like 'calories' mean almost nothing to describe effective energy derived from food. Nutrition is made more complex and challenging when not laid out in proper terms. The grey areas are why people so easily get misled into eating crap packaged as healthy and never understanding why they fail constantly at gaining health.

so much of your advice is kinda problematic for people w adhd. telling someone with adhd to be increasing their fasting window by half an hour each day, that's a recipe for disaster. in fact, all that scheduling is going to be problematic. I personally went paleo before I even discovered you, so I kinda went through the "detox" months before I started IF. I'd say for someone w adhd, start detox, and when you stop waking up with the headache, you're ready to go onto fasting. then when you start fasting, start all other steps at once - however the problem w adhd is that say, you wake up at 9, you won't be getting hungry until 2, but by then you probably are in the middle of the "project" and haven't even started making food, so you'll just grab anything to eat, cause you're now starving. alternatively, if you make food in advance, is typically going to result in you eating a weeks worth of food in one sitting. I was trying to note when I had the first meal so I could make sure that I didn't east 8 hours past that, but that's a problem, cause I forget to check the time... I did manage to stick to the schedule for months, but then it just fell apart - at first it worked cause I was getting up at pretty much the same time of the day every day, but then I started to get up at noon, or 2 or 3pm, and at that point I have no clue when I should or shouldn't eat and that threw me out of the scheduled eating window. Now I'm getting the sleeping down, but I'm having hard time getting back to the eating window... I'm telling you adhd sucks
