Emilly Carter, 20, has had Tourette’s for as long as she can remember. Tics include mimicking voices, shrugging her head and touching her nose but when Emilly sings her tics vanish.

I just want say my experience with this video. This video is beautiful and I'm happy to be learning more and more about torretts. I have nervous tics which I know aren't near as bad as your condition but they do happen randomly and I'm still honestly embarrassed by them. Last night when I was watching this video I thought I had a tic,,,,but it kept getting worse and worse and turns out I had a seizure

I had Tourette's through highschool and my early twenties, though mine was very minor in comparison to this. I gasped as vocal, and my neck and arms would violently twitch from time to time, especially when I felt colder than normal. I ended up doing a paper on the disorder during my brief stint in college, and it's such an incredibly interesting disorder. Even after writing a full paper, and experiencing it myself for years, it still amazes me just how many different tics people can have. The brain is such an interesting organ.

I'm writing something with a character that has tourettes in it and his makes me feel guilty :-( (as did watching an old episode of SOUTH PARK the other day) I didn't know touching ticks were also Tourettes.

It’s really important to research all the different possibilities of tics and make sure you portray it accurately. I don’t mind if characters have swearing tics as long as it’s not all there is Bc tourettes is so much more than just that. Personally I relate more to characters with coprolalia but I don’t appreciate when that’s all it’s shown as. If u have any questions for how to go about it feel free to ask.

I have tourettes too, but my parents just told me it was normal and that everyone also have tics and everyone supressed them so I learned how to and my tics are now minimal, btw, when playing the piano they all disappear
