Wow... story 2. There was some real emotion coming through in the reading, too. May she RIP.

The dying SIL fears that OP can take away one of her punching bags and that's it, that's why she did the begging. And her cutting people off just to get her way when apparently she's dying makes me think the cancer isn't severe this time and she's simply using it as a manipulation tactic. As for this sudden change, I don't think it's that sudden but just she's not bothering to hide her true colors now. I bet that sil was always like this, but used to be more subtle about it before she could use the "I nearly died" or "I'm dying" card.

1st story SIL is a bully. She bullies other women. When OP saw the tirade on his wife unprovoked; SIL was upset with herself that her mask was dropped. She also lost a target.

The second story...rings so true of my godmother. She has done nothing but give and love and support others in what I believe is proof of true altruism. She raised me (her student) and fed me while my mother battled drug addiction. She would give anything to anyone for the CHANCE to see them succeed. And now she's dying of early onset Alzheimer's. It's sick. It's unfair. No one deserves dementia or Alzheimer's...but no one deserves it LESS than people like Ma and Mary.

*reads the title* welp... time to see how OP tries to save this framing! ETA: Story1: i get OP is worried about getting involved. It's something to talk with his wife about, and YES do help. The MIL and YSIL are both asking for help after their own efforts are not working. I feel bad for the SIL with cancer, but at the end of the day, if she is a detriment to her family, that has to be considered regardless of how tragic. If OP is a presence that can keep SIL's negativity in check then, he may not even need to get directly involved but just be present. That said, if he does need to get involved, it should be discussed to what capacity. Edit for typos as well

Here's the thing. Sometimes, when a person is dying, he will be cruel to those he loves. He feels their grief will be less, if they are relieved at his passing. Unfortunately, grief is based in guilt. Creating conflict, which didn't previously exist, means loved ones already feel guilty and confused. Passing away in the middle of it leaves them holding the guilt alone. They grieve for what could have been. The loss isn't grief, as people hold onto happy memories, instead of what-ifs.

Story 1: Not what I was expecting so kudos to that. Story 3: My roommate didn’t drink for the longest time because of general disinterest. If we got together at a bar or restaurant to have drinks, he just didn’t drink and found his own good time. It’s not hard to compromise with friends, at least good friends. Story 4: Yeah no, that behavior is thievery at best, creepy at worst.

Story 3: So she wants everyone to cater to her but can't compromise for her friends? Yeah, that's not a friend. A Bazillion degrees?!?! D*mn!!! Story 4: They think they are not trusted? Well, yeah... Story 5: The thing here is that your friends aren't supposed to be your therapists. Story 7: Oh? A parent that sides with the kid!!! That's somewhat rare here o.O

32:48 I don’t drink either but I am perfectly fine with other people drinking as long as it isn’t detrimental to their health. If they become way too drunk or borderline/actually alcoholic then I say something. A few drinks is fine. Plus not even my business to speak on. My personal reason is because of meds and it doesn’t mix well with me. Learned early from high school during new years family parties and with parents on very special occasions. Always the smallest amounts but still I know I don’t like it. This is my personal experience and I know that. Other people have their own experiences and it works well for other people and doesn’t cause issues for them. No matter my own personal beliefs or experiences. I would NEVER be like Lauren and be going crazy about other ppl drinking

The vegan "friend", anyone else suspect a B12 deficiency? EDIT: I don't drink alcohol, for religious reasons, but I respect that everyone has free agency and the ability to make their own choices. I do have friends, and some family, that do drink. I just don't hang out when they are. Instead, we hang out other times.

I want to pity that first OP but dying really does change personality like that. Him and his wife are making this woman's death about them.
@LunaP13 ай бұрын
Grieving over one's mortality is no excuse to tear apart a family. If the cancer is hitting her brain, then her husband needs to get her checked out just in case. But if not, then it is 100% her fault for burning bridges before death.
@lijuanzhou69713 ай бұрын
Yes, dying changes ones personality, but if it‘s to the detriment of everyone around you, then you still should be held accountable. And the fact that the SIL stopped treating OP‘s wife badly, after she got some push-back, but continued to treat MIL and younger SIL the same way shows, that she knew exactly what she was doing.

I honestly agree that if I was dying like this I would be a mess and be all over the place I am sorry but most people would and yes some people don't handle dying lots of people are not calm when they know that they're dying some people are not stronger than other people it happens to life honestly I do not agree with Op and yes people are going to say yours this your dad and your opinion is but when you look at it from the point of view of a dying person or just anything you would understand that yes it makes you do a radical thing sometimes you're scared to death everyone's scared to death
