For story 1: That part when the nephew said he liked the tent better because he could be himself and it felt like his own little house... That hit different, he is just trying to hide from the crap situation he's constantly surrounded with by his parents.

Therapist is old boss's spouse: the update and comments seem to want to believe that the therapist was less unethical and willing to put the blame on the old boss. I'm more inclined to believe that the therapist got the wife to confess and throw herself on the grenade to save his license. Based on the update, NOTHING happens to the old boss while the therapist saves his license and gets a small reprimand for what many people would chalk up to a small indiscretion (talking a bit too freely and not keeping records more secure) - notice that their story is that the old boss figured out it was the OP based on small hints and details, not from the therapist revealing who the patient was. Sure, therapist closed his old office. But, at least he still has his license, so can open another one in another location after the dust settles.

Most likely, this, although I can't imagine it would help her career, either. Demonstrating a willingness to violate an employee's privacy is a liability for the company. I imagine she doesn't have reports anymore.

Story 1: Well, I guess the adults in that family found a housing solution. Free, very secure housing for the next few years. But seriously, if there’s any kind of therapy available for a kid in the nephew’s situation, it’s a good idea. He needs a much better way to deal with his problems than his parents modeled for him.

Some people actually choose prison as a solution for housing problems. I had a former coach "try to" stab a cop near the end of his life because he didn't want to be a burden on his family. I don't think he served more than a week.

@@groofromtheup5719 My grandfather came from a wealthy family that lost it all during the Depression. He used to tell he story about going to the Sheriff in one town and asking to be arrested, just to get something to eat. And I’ve heard of people who couldn’t afford healthcare committing crimes after they learned they had a major illness like cancer, just so they could get treatment. It says a lot about our system.

literally one of the first classes we have/had to take is ethics. even if they are your family, significant other, or whatever they may be, you aren't supposed to bring what your client tells you in confidence to anyone else no matter if you are vague or not. you never know who can identify someone else (no matter how small the details), if you flat out just tell them who they are, or how that will affect the client themselves.

I totally agree. Disclosing info given to you in a patient/doctor scenario is private. Breaching that trust, whether it be to a spouse or someone else is significantly unethical and shows your patients are not valued by you. I'm an extremely private person and always have been. It takes a lot for people to seek help and when they do, they should know it won't be compromised in any way. Sharing someone's private info because you want to discuss your day is not your option if you are a doctor. His wife is a total POS as far as I'm concerned. They have both violated their positions of power.

Story 1: NTA x 1000! From the words, attitude and actions of the "family" members, it is very easy to deduce that, once they get their hands on that camper, OP will never get it back! This is as good as lending them money - it will never be returned! Story 2: OP needs to immediately report their psychiatrist to the relative authority. This is the time to make a fuss - a huge fuss - about all of this! After hearing the update. I believe the psychiatrist simply closed down his practice and will eventually reopen somewhere else when everything cools down. If this had ended up going to court, the office staff would have been subpoenaed, and they would have had no choice but to tell the truth.

Story one: if a social worker is coming to check on the Nephew, aren’t the parents getting the childcare fee that all foster parents get? They should be able to afford whatever the child needs. Story 1, not surprised about the turnout of the story. I would have used a trailer lock on the camper, as well, just in case A tent for the nephew is not a permanent solution, he may have to go into the attic in the end, or even set up a shed in the yard and deck it out for him. Not ideal, but the attic could be useful for if/when he changes his mind and later for storage etc. But overall, some stability should be good for him.

Imagine having a spouse so nasty you loose the job you most likely have worked very hard for and thought yourself secure until retirement. I honestly doubt that he kept his files so badly, because if nasty people want info, they dig and destroy until they get info. 2 things going on. The blabbing (I bet very common) and the insecure record keeping (also, very common). The real issue is the old boss. What kind of idiot married to a therapist would pull that crap? I grew up as the child of someone with a medical practice. I heard stuff I shouldn't, even if it was just because my voice sounds like my father's on the phone. I actively send that stuff "out the other ear" and always have. I still have access to keys for the building. If I really was that type of AH, I could have done it too. My wife worked in an ER in the past. She had to talk about some of the crap she went through. Probably good I developed my "not remembering" skills and am not a blabber. There was some sick shit she got involved in. I think 1 case hit the national news. Some of it did stick, but I'm still not one to blab.
