Since these are filmed under a microscope I tend to lose the sense of scale for the components you work with. I'm always really impressed when you fix stuff but seeing just how tiny that transistor was makes it even more impressive!

Just in case you were wondering, these 2 digit 7 segment displays are simply light emitting diodes tied together with a common anode and separate cathodes. Each segment lights up when a current flows from the common anode to it's individual cathode. Each digit has one anode so in your case, more than likely that anode was on the same power rail as that transistor. When it exploded, it knocked out two things in one go. The positive supply to the first digit of the display and also the UV LED too. Some segment displays work the opposite way around...with only one common cathode and separate anodes. (Just to confuse us all!)

Out of curiosity I went and looked at my UV lamp that stopped working and sure enough it was also the same burnt up component, labeled J3Y. Looks like they just die with heat produced from the UV leds because I happen to know mine died from being on top of a cure job too long. Mine activates with an infrared sensor detecting something under it and I walked away after activating it forgetting about it for over an hour.
@Bigrignohio Жыл бұрын
So, going to fix it now? :)
@Blu3ManiC Жыл бұрын
@@Bigrignohio I was more just reassuring Steve that it’s probably a common issue. I’ve suspected it was that the moment I opened it when it broke because it was the only spot on the PCB that was brown lol I opted to just replace it back then because I can pay a few dollars for the components or I can spend my 40% off coupon at Michaels for one of their UV lamps haha. I probably will actually fix it as a spare now knowing I likely have a donor board lying around somewhere with that component :P

If I had to guess that transistor is getting hotter than it is designed to due to a design issue. Maybe replace with a higher rated part or add a heatsink if it fails again. It might have been good to see how hot it gets using a thermal camera?

Should I get this light or aixun? Also, why so many western repair guys keep on insisting on using isopropil to clean stuff? I used to use it, but then I noticed things come back, so I don't use it anymore. Problem is that it has water in it, and after alcohol evaporated, you got water and corossion. I use either flux off or benzine C2-80/120.

Same happens with out 3D printers the screen and parts can only take so many hours of UV light before they start to disintegrate and need replacing!. 10.000hrs the manufacturers standard but you could get a weak one that'll last 6 hrs and completely fail just your luck on what spectrum or something the system is there's something that's different in every one that is on the low end or higher end or some thing can't really remember what it is but you get a lower one it'll fail fast! The mono screens in our expensive printers don't last forever unfortunately and need replacing as get cooked to brittleness the components

Probably 1 of the seven segment displays and the UV light were on their own power rail. I can only assume it's so the UV light doesn't sag the main chip's voltage enough to make it malfunction.
@hugegamer5988 Жыл бұрын
When many components fail, they get very hot as part of the process. This heat degrades surrounding material and generates gas. Gas generation in a confined space is how guns and internal combustion engines work. It’s also how you explode components and send pieces flying.
