In my day we did the stairs at the football stadium to gain climbing strength. We literally ran up and down the stairs for an hour, or whenever we had the wind for it. My university was set in the mountains, and the climb from dormitory to anthropology was 300 feet (100 meters), or 400 feet to theoretical math and physics. I kept up the stadium climb for five years after I finished school. I once visited Seattle and rode up the streets there without using the lower gears. Not as strong today, obviously. The outfits looked amazing on you.
