My starter went out in the shop volvo cummins ISX

I agree best place for it to take out. Sure beats in a mudhole parking lot. Cold and raining. I had one to go out in 1985. East Tn at the dock I was delivering to. Old cabover International. No one had a starter. Shop had to to to VA and get one. Then rolled me out into the windshield. As I had taken a nap. Company had to pay $1090. for starter labor and the guy driving an hour to get the starter. If it had been my truck, Would have had it pulled off. And ran it until I got back home. LOL

I had one guy tell me he paid $1500 to have a starter replaced somewhere a few yrs back. You deff never know when its gonna decide to retire on you lol

actually volvo and general motors had some business ties, I'm not sure what all part was GM's but volvo bought them out about 20 years ago i believe

Hey buddy, how u know it was the starter? I'm have the same problem today. I turn key ignition, no click or crank. I have powering truck.Should I just buy starter to see what happens?

I would check batteries and connections. mine turned over but was not turning fast enough to start and then it stopped turning over at all and all my batteries and connections checked out good.

That is one of the worst starters to change in my opinion. I have a long 1/2” locking extension to hold the the socket on and use a 3/4 gun on the end to pop the bolts loose.

That might would work well also, sadly no one stocks those either, well fastenal would have had them in the next town up, had i given it thought.
