My parents' house was broken into, and they stole a bunch of stuff, including my computer. The cops found some of my parents' stuff at a pawnshop and told them they had to PAY TO GET IT BACK. So apparently selling stolen property is legal.

You should've won the auction and then done a PayPal refund after you got it back. You had plenty of evidence for them to side with giving you the refund.

You seriously couldn't make this stuff up even if you tried! One time, my little sister's bike was stolen right out of our open garage while WE WERE ALL INSIDE EATING DINNER! Scary insane stuff! Hopefully Kirk is safe out there.

You would’ve had more success using eBay and PayPal to recover your bike than using the police. Sad, but true. You did exactly what the majority people would think is the right thing. Great video btw.

The only time I've heard of bikes being recovered is by friends/bike community at-large laying hands or putting multiple locks on said bike.

That sucks. I've had a couple of bikes stolen when I was young. One from my front porch where it was locked up another actually while I was riding it when I was about 16. A couple blocks from my house I turn a corner and pass a couple of black kids on bikes and I paid them no mind (not racist, just the facts) one block later I make another turn and there's a larger group of them. As I'm going there are like 6 of them now following me. They basically pull me over, surrounding me so I can't leave, and just tell me to get off the bike. At age 16 and totally outnumbered I just gave it up. Never saw it again.

I lost my bike months ago and found it on Instagram with some dude showing off his thief skills, told the cops. No response and take the matter with my own hand. Luckily that dude is scared of jail that's why he gave it off so easily. Hope you can get your bike back ali.

I was hoping it would end on a happier note of you being reunited, but sadly not. What a shame that the police aren't interested because it's only a minor crime to them. I remember a story of a woman who arranged to buy her stolen bike from a thief, met them and persuaded them to let her try it, she rode off with it and never came back. I would have suggested you do something similar had I realised someone had found your bike on eBay. I would have also happily donated money towards its safe return!

The reason why thieves thieve... most of the time they are able to get away with it. Had my car broken into and same thing, just the run around. Identity theft is even worse.

I had my bike (her name was Colette) stolen last April. I had her chained to a "lock-your-bike-here-its-safe" rack. The thief picked the lock on my bike chain, took Colette, and RELOCKED MY CHAIN. So, no bike, but I still have the worthless bike chain.

Cops can be incredibly incompetent when dealing with non-violent crimes. i also had my bike stolen and house got robbed, but they provided me almost no help whatsoever. I recommend just using a dirt cheap bike for commuting and save a good bike only for exercising and trainings that you are expected to grasp it at all time. and if you must lock your bike outside, invest on a really sturdy, heavy duty bike lock and avoid weak poles like the one in the video. your video pains me because i know how stressful it is to get your precious stuff stolen.

Aaaah this sucks I was so hoping you'd get the bike back! When I was about 12 my brand new BMX was stolen right before Christmas, never got it back and I was devastated. But on the bright side my granddad bought me my very first adult bike which I still have 15years later, it could do with being repaired though 😂

You can do way more than steal bikes and get away with it. If a cop helps you with something like this... it’s because that cop personally WANTS to help you and is willing to go WAY out of their way. The pecking order is Corporations, financial institution’s, small business, children, ......... adults. Had a cop once tell me to just steal my bike back hahaha

Being from a less well-off family and community, one of the earliest things you realise is the police don't care about you unless you have money. I got assaulted and the policeman tried to arrest me once. Another time, we had the police called on us because we were trying to stop a kid stealing one of our friend's bikes. The policeman literally said "who should I believe? 3 scruffy kids from the estate or the kid with the designer gear who could actually afford a bike?"

Just do not leave any evidence, oh sorry that was my Aunty, her husband used to go to the pub and well you can guess the rest, anyone she got a pillow case with wet sand and waited for her revenge, the next day he woke up bruised and wondered what fight did he get into at the pub. That is now a family story that is relived over and over.

I had my bike stolen on my college campus, all bikes had to be registered (comes into play later) I took the seat because my lock was broken, I thought that no one would take a bike with out a seat, well someone did. I filed with public safety and about a week later I found my bike with another seat. Well it still wasn’t locked up, so I took it 😂 I went to public safety and said “ hello, I filed a report for a stolen bike I found it and have it with me.” They said to come back on Monday when the police officer would be on campus and they would lock it up for the night. Went back on Monday, gave them my ID, my number came up, it matched and I got my bike back. Now keep in mind this bike was only like $150, I cannot imagine getting a more expensive bike stolen. We need an update!

While this is technically true in her and others case, ive seen plenty and even been apart of a case (where my stuff was stolen, i wasnt the theif 😂), where the cops actually did what they were supposed to. I actually even had a time where one of my friend's older brother got out on me cause i was selling a 360 and i trusted them to go do it for me and bring my money back (i was extremely busy), and of course my buddy's older brother took off with it and sold it and didnt come back home for a few days (which was confirmed by the cops, cause he knew his brother was pissed he disappeared and took my shi), and they axtually found out who he sold it to from his lil brother, (my buddy), and as soon as the guy who bought it found out what happened he brought it back to me, and i held it for him until he could actually pay me for it, which i give him a good discount for being honest and a decent person. But yeah, ive seen plenty other times where cops/detectives, even where i live, in a small town where theres not a lot of respurces as well, go out of their way to work as hard as they can no matter the value of the items tbh (ofc unless it was some really stupid petty stuff obviously). Like as much as ppl crap on cops for not doing their jobs, theres just as many if not more of them out there who really do their job and go out of their way to do as much as they can to help.

When you first found the bike on eBay, you should have contacted the person, asked if you can see it in person or just made certain you made the winning bid, then send the thieving seller a message that you will pay for it in person when you pick up the bike and then bring your friends to confront the thief. You can't trust thieves to even give you the bike if you've paid them prior to picking it up. Your bike may have been listed and sold several times in those 6 months for all you know. So, either get friends to help or get a private investigator to do the work, then once the thief is caught, file a lawsuit against them to recoup your costs incurred to catch the little f***er........

Don't depend on cops, you'll just be let down. They aren't even required to defend you even if someone is killing you in front of them if they fear for their life. Don't worry though, just speed and they are right there to give you a ticket with 5 of their colleagues keeping an eye out for anything suspicious

Ok this is not a bike story, someone we know tried to get a line of credit in my wife's name. they provided all of her details however they managed to get her work phone number wrong. So the only way we found out was when we got a letter in the mail that the application had failed. We took the information to our local police in Australia and they were going to contact the email provider to get the emails relating to the application. Yes you guessed it they sat on the request so long that the evidence had been deleted from the email providers server, thank you New South Wales Australia state police for treating our case like it did not matter. It cost us a lot of money and time to clean up that financial mess.
