What an amazing thing you’re doing for those children! There’s as many ways to parent as there are stars in the sky. The only 2 parenting tips that are universal are; 1) Smoother those children with love and respect, and 2) There’s no shame in putting an inconsolable infant in a safe crib and walking away while you cool down and collect yourself if they are getting to you. Lean into God and let Him and your instincts guide the way through your parenthood journey.

Nursing and sleep go hand in hand biologically, babies are literally wired to be sleepy from nursing due to the hormones found in breastmilk and to seek the comfort of nursing throughout the night, it isn't a "bad sleep habit". Of course some babies are much easier to wean than others, but many babies' temperaments are much more signalling based, and they signal much more often to their mothers throughout the night for nursing, whether for nursing back to sleep or simply to nurse for a few min and then roll over and put themselves back to sleep themselves. We all have different sleep personalities and sleep needs (some people need a fan going for white noise and cooler sleep environments, some need to sleep cuddled up next to a spouse - something babies cannot even do if they're sleeping alone in a crib!). Babies/toddlers deserve grace.

That's great, 2 years! You should know tough you can breastfeed while pregnant, it is perfectly safe in a healthy pregnancy. Hey Delilah just wanted to make sure you and other moms who want to continue breastfeeding know that it is safe. If you delivered a full term baby with no complications continuing to nurse does not increase your risk of miscarriage (2014 Journal of Human Lactation). You are correct in stating that breastfeeding produces oxytocin the hormone responsible for uterine contractions. However, there is no evidence this will bring on labor in women who are not full term. I'm so glad you had such a beautiful breastfeeding journey with both your babies and weaned at the right time for both you and your babies. Love your videos ❤️

I would say listen to her tip number four. Delilah is sharing HER experience. Like she said, every baby, every mother is different; no two are the same. This could be the credible information that she was given or that she researched so her feelings/opinions about this are valid. I know you are saying this out of love but also, like she said, it's best to go to your doctor or OB for advice/information if you don't agree with something or have questions about something.
@helainawalmsley42253 жыл бұрын
@@LauraPaige she also said at the very beginning she did NO research. I know she is just sharing her experience, but mothers will be coming to this video for advice and help. And what if a mother had a miscarriage and starts to blame themselves because they were feeding, that could make them feel terrible 😣 any little bit of research shows breastfeeding whilst pregnant is very safe... I fully understand not wanting to breast fees whilst pregnant, it can be very painful or unpleasant, or wanting the baby weaned before the next one arrives.. but that's a different story.
@LauraPaige3 жыл бұрын
@@helainawalmsley4225 I do know she said she did no “research” but I don’t (again, opinions) think that leaves out a Google search every now and again. Like I said, everyone is different and that’s the beauty of motherhood. I think it’s important to hear all angles of thoughts and sides of motherhood. It could’ve been putting two and two together to get to that conclusion she had. But again, no one is in her brain and knows!

I love you and this vid but it is actually perfectly safe to nurse while you're pregnant. It isn't proven to increase risk of miscarriage or preterm labor. Just in case anyone got nervous/scared at hearing that. As long as you're feeling up to it, it is generally safe to nurse your baby while expecting another. The oxytocin is released in trace amounts while nursing, not enough to stimulate contractions.

Thank you for mentioning prioritizing your mental health. ❤️ My daughter & I had an EXTREMELY difficult time with latching in the beginning. My mental health was at an all time low with severe PPD. I had a big over-supply, but my daughter couldn’t latch properly & was barely moving milk. I was always engorged & she was technically starving. I felt so jealous & depressed strapped to my pump all the time while I watched everyone else feeding my daughter her bottles. My family kept encouraging me to quit BF for my mental health… but something in my mama bear instincts told me that the milk wasn’t the problem… it was that I NEEDED to be able to actually feed my baby from my breast. I was determined to figure out how. I’m so happy that I stood strong, because shortly after we got our latch down the formula shortage hit. After many hospital lactation appointments, I finally hired a lactation nurse to do a home visit. It was the best investment in my daughter & myself! I am SO grateful that we were in a position to do that! We discovered my daughter had a lip tie, tongue tie, & a weak jaw. We were given mouth exercises to do with her a few times daily, tips on pump flanges, how to wean off of pumping & into breastfeeding, & so much more! That lactation nurse, Melissa Willet, saved our Bf journey! BF has been the best thing for my daughter & myself.

So many parents tells you oh my baby was sleeping through the night at five months or whatever and they give you all that unsolicited advice and it just doesn't always work for every parent and every baby but it can be so disheartening to only ever hear those perfect stories where everything is so easy. Hearing your story is a reminder that every baby has their own story and for every baby there's a different way that is the best for that baby and that doesn't mean you made any mistakes or anything like that. I just recently weaned my third and yes following his lead really took the edges out of the situation. I didn't have much supply with my girls but I really think post partum had a lot to do with breastfeeding our second daughter. I got pregnant when my eldest was 6 months old so that ended that overnight. Yes I agree we need a more supportive community. No one story is the same between mother and child. Take the advice that you think speaks to you and forget the rest. It is SO easy to get pulled in a lot of directions. I can totally relate when you said you didn't read any books or do any research. There is no book for parenting! No advice that will stretch across the board. Support goes way further than criticism.

Babe 1 self weaned at about 19 months, babe 2 I weaned at 18-20ish months sort of cold turkey (latch on, 1-2 min, okay, all done) because I was heavily pregnant and was no longer comfortable nursing, babe 3 is about 14 months and we are just working on night weaning, hopefully sleeping through the night too! SO grateful to hear someone speak up about keeping opinions out of it!! mothers would benefit if we stop judging others for differing methods and respect others choices/styles/preferences. Certainly, there are methods that my be uncomfortable for particular mothers or infants. BUT clear, confident, consistent methods and boundaries are beneficial for all, even babies.

I researched a few sleep-training-ish accounts. They have helpful advice (ex: sleep/eat/play, sleepy v. hungry cues), but letting my little one cry for more than 10 minutes just breaks my heart. I always go to him (usually after 5 minutes) in the night and comfort him. If comforting doesn't work, he gets the boob and I feel okay about it. During the day I try to only feed after he sleeps, but sometimes he gets hungry before bedtime and I feed him. Sometimes he even falls asleep while nursing and I don't mind, bc I know he can connect his sleep cycles and that it isn't necessarily a dependency at this point. During month 3 was the trickiest, getting him out of the swaddle and him learning to self-soothe gradually. Your story sounds really caring and intuitive and I love it.

You should feel so proud of your breastfeeding journey with both of your perfect kiddos! Great video and well spoken mama! When I had my first baby I thought I’ll let her self wean. She’ll be done by 2... Yeah, she’s turns 4 in a week and still nurses 2 times a day. She loves the morning feed. Over the last few months she’s FINALLY started cutting out the night feed. I told her once she’s 4 she’ll be a big girl and done with milk. She seems content with that. I guess I’ll find out in a week. Even though she’s old, I’m sad to know that chapter is closing soon. Motherhoods a weird thing. My 18 month old was very detached from the boob during her first year. I usually had to initiate a feed. I thought, just make it to 1 and you’ll be easy to wean! Then she turned 1 and suddenly got very attached to the boob. Now she’s 18 months and is certainly not as into it as my first was/is, but it still seems like we’re in for the long haul. Some of my favorite memories as a mother was when they were both younger and would nurse together and caress each other and me. They bonded so much and I did too. It was amazing! That and when my water broke on my due date during bedtime feed with my toddler! I myself nursed myself until I was almost 4. So I guess it’s just in the genes, haha.

But I did it, and I’m proud of myself. You should be too. Looking forward to the vlog next week. You still are my favourite youtuber. Sending you much love.🥰 Chavely

I'm so happy you said to not listen to all the opinions. I'm a firm believer that you should do what's best for your family...just because it's different doesn't mean it's wrong.

I was able to breastfeed my daughter until she was 5 months. We didn't struggle with breastfeeding she just prefers a bottle. I also personally didn't enjoy breastfeeding..I hated all the judgement I would get from people for feeding my daughter in front of them. (Even when I covered up and they wouldn't see anything 🙄)

You read my mind! I have been hoping you would do a how I wean video!!! My daughter will be 1 in April and I plan on slowly weaning her after that as I am of the same opinion and wish to stop breastfeeding around 18 months or sooner. This has helped me soo much, thank you for sharing your story 🖤

I love your videos and this was such a big help! I am a new mom and I ended up choosing to exclusively pump because my son didn't latch well. I'm not anywhere close to weaning yet, but I will definitely be coming back to this video for encouragement and advice when I need it. Thank you Delilah!

Oh I had a really difficult time starting to breastfeed! I didn't know what I was doing and my daughter would not latch! My best advice would be to see a lactation consultant. Changed our breastfeeding journey and I successfully nursed and weaned her! She breastfed until around 16 months! So thankful I was able to do that!

Hi Delilah, thank you for your video, the experience you shared, it is encouraging indeed.. I'm going through exactly the same experience now with my 1 year old daughter, like the one you had with Theo, word to word, like you described, I'm not joking.. and I've started to think there is no hope for us to wean her at this stage.. however, your video gave me this hope and encouragement just to persevere with it and, who knows, we might also see the positive outcome very soon 🤞😴 Thank you ❤

So wonderful and helpful! I have been going back and forth on deciding to try again with breastfeeding with my second one, I had a horrible mental experience with my first despite working with a consultant and my doctor for 6 weeks of nursing/pumping doing it all I had to just stop because I had failure of production. I didn't produce any colostrum or milk, my son would latch and begin nursing then push me away cause he didn't get anything and he was hungry. So we did formula which I am so grateful for because if it wasn't for that invention as an option my sweet miracle wouldn't be here now. I have been preparing myself for the same experience and even just saying nope to breastfeeding because of it. This video has helped me to be so more calm about if it happens okay if not it's okay too, just hearing it from another mom is so encouraging!

Thank you for this! Everyone talks about breastfeeding but not many talk about weaning! I am inspired by this to dedicate myself to the process. Currently tandem feeding (not the dream I thought it would be but a lot of sleeplessness) and pregnant with our third. I literally feel angry as my kids (20 months and 4yrs) are night nursing. I have two boys and they are very similar to your Theo’s story but I haven’t stuck with it. Thanks for saying that it is okay. Thank you for the tips! Feeling motivated to try again 😄

In my experience, weaning in the summer works great. My 1 1/2 y.o. was feeding throughout the night, seemingly without intention to stop. As the heat set in, I started offering him water instead and after a few weeks, he wouldn't even consider the breast anymore. For the feed right before sleep, I started offering warmed up milk in a bottle. But I totally agree with Delilah, ultimately, you figure it out as you go, taking cues from your kid. I basically realized my son was more thirsty than wanting me or anything.

Been wrestling so hard with weaning/switching to formula because my baby is 8 months and I’m 13 weeks pregnant with my second. My son is struggling to want to nurse anymore because of the hormones, and therefore is hungry at night/not sleeping through the night anymore. The mom guilt is so real! Happy to hear that none of us know what we’re doing. ❤️ lol.

My kids are now 7 and 8. I still feel guilty for not breastfeeding for longer. I had to stop feeding my oldest because it was causing contractions. Then i had to go back to work right away after my 2nd. The perfect storm of things happened at that time forcing me to stop breastfeeding and it still hurts my soul.

Thank you for this video! 😭 I wasn't able to breastfeed my first at all, so I promised to try my hardest to breastfeed my second and I think because of this I have completely disregarded my mental health. My daughter will be 11 months soon and our breastfeeding journey has been anything but magical... I honestly have been ready to stop breastfeeding for months but she is so attached to me and I've felt guilty every time I've thought about stopping.

Hi Delilah .... You and your husband are very much into renovations and fix ups ... I needed some help and suggestions... Just yesterday movers were moving furniture to the second floor and bashed the staircase walls on so many placed and even scrapped the corner of the wall . What do I use for repairing the holes in the wall and the broken up corner of the wall so that's it's again nice and sharp.... And then when repainting it ... How do u suggest we paint and which paint brand to use ... If you and your husband can please help me with this ... I would really appreciate it ... You have a lovely family ... Been watching your videos for a while ... God bless you and your family and your baby#3

I love your last section! Mum shaming is stupid! Just because of differing options! These opinions could only be a matter of months of feeding longer, in the grand scheme of things that is nothing! I am grateful for this video, I am about to start this process with my almost 18mnth old.
